We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well. We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest. The 3,510 acre forest was once the winter camping ground of the Piscataway Tribe because of the mild climate and abundance of game. Legend claims that there is a Native American burial ground within the forest... but it has yet to be found. Spooky! Equestrian, family and youth group campsites are available for your overnight stay. 19.5 miles of horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking trails weave through the forest. They pass a number of historical features, including the loblolly pine plantations that were planted by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's, by a charcoal kiln, and through farm areas whose springs and streams were used to make moonshine!

We have been experimenting with all kinds of exotic herbs and trees. Some make it, many don't. We sell dried herb teas. In addition we have 5 different kinds of bamboo. We use the bamboo for so many things. Camptown is our largest site. It features a large fire pit and a circular field that can accomodate 10 to 15 or more tents. You can also park smaller camper vans, teardrops, etc. in this large area. Good for parties, family reunions. The "# person" per site listing considers adults, not children... bring a whole crew of kids (try to have enough supervision - if there is such a concept!) The kids have such a great time out here... it is amazing. They love the labyrinth! By the way, that labryinth entrance is behind the kiosk. It's the largest of it's kind in North America. It seems like we made this place for the kids in ourselves and when actual kids see it they go wild. The last bunch were running and yelping with their picked flowers all round and round in the labyrinth for hours! Robert's site was as advertised. Super privacy, full hookups. Robert was there to meet us, blowing leaves and putting things in tip-top shape for our stay. This place is just under an hour from our home and great for quick getaways. It's on our list to do again!

We absolutely love this campsite! This was our third time staying here, and it gets better every year. The site itself is very private, spacious, and well-maintained — perfect for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors without feeling crowded. Derek, the owner, is always incredibly accommodating and goes above and beyond to make sure guests have everything they need. We plan to keep coming back every year — it’s become one of our favorite getaway spots!

Weekend Trip to Riverfront Retreat

Pretty cool spot. There were a few hammock camping sites, but mostly tent so plan accordingly. The campground folks who run this property were kind and hosted a quiet and peaceful experience.

4 nights at Camping on the Hazel River

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this cabin! I communicated with Peggy through the HipCamp app, and she was very responsive and helpful. When we arrived, Tony met us at the parking area, showed us to the cabin, and took the time to explain how everything worked. He was incredibly kind, accommodating, and genuinely wanted to make sure we had a great experience. The cabin itself was spotless, rustic, and very cozy — exactly what we were hoping for. It has just the right amount of amenities: a small fridge, microwave, toaster oven, running water, and just enough hot water for a quick shower. The outdoor shower was one of our favorite parts — it felt peaceful and refreshing every time we used it. Before our trip, we asked if there was a way to cook outside, and Tony went above and beyond. He actually built a wonderful fire pit setup designed for cooking, which we used every day. It was such a fun and memorable part of our stay, and Tony even provided all the firewood we could possibly need. The property is beautiful, well maintained, and surrounded by about one to two miles of lovely hiking trails. It was quiet, private, and felt like our own little hideaway in nature. Tony gave us plenty of space while still being available if we needed anything. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience — highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a cozy, peaceful escape!

Weekend Trip to Labyrinth, Trails and Solitude

We really enjoyed our one night stay. Firewood and water provided was really nice. Fun to watch people sky diving from the small nearby airstrip. I’d recommend this campground.

Weekend Trip to Cambia Community

We love camping here! The bell tent is great. The camping pad/mattress was made up with pillows, sheets, and multiple blankets. There was fresh wood and kindling for the fire. The string of solar lights is a nice touch. We’ll definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Bonny Biggin Farm

Large, very private spot. Lots of well kept trails to explore around the camp. My dog really enjoyed our walkabouts. The site was clean and well maintained. Grass covered the entire camp area which would make it totally fine even if the weather turned rainy. You can hear the highway and train but they were not bothersome at all. I would/will stay here again.

Weekend Trip to Peace of Earth Farmstead & Forest

Kelly and her family were very kind. I am a traveling vendor and one market ended up having me back on their property around midnight. They were so helpful in making sure I would know where to go and not disturb anyone. Great communication from the beginning and they were very helpful with anything that I needed! Will be going there again!

Weekend Trip to TINYHOME n WOODS & PRIVATE ISLAND

This was a beautiful space and we had a great time. I’d recommend renting both sites. We loved walking to the river. The facilities were clean and a step up from the primitive camping we were expecting.
