Be happy to give you a tour of the mushroom farm. Learn more about this land: The wooded area is next to my house. There's about 4 acres to explore and a gravel road rarely traveled for a nice walk to a view for a great sunset.  Harrisonburg is 5 minutes from here and has lots of night life, micro breweries etc. I have long power cords if you need electric at the campsite. You may hear owls hooting at night.  The campsite is under white pines with a thick bed of pine needles. There are several campsites under the red cedar trees that are naturally bug and mosquito resistant.     Shenandoah National Park is about 45 minutes away if you go to the 33 entrance and 45 minutes away to go to the Luray entrance. Lots of bears there and hikes to waterfalls. No hunting there.  Solar panels provide half of my energy needs. GW National forest has lots of hiking and mt biking and is half an hour away. Great views of the mountains from the  campsite area.  I'm dedicated to having lots of native plants and trees. I do not spray any pesticides.  Plenty of free firewood. Not too far off interstate 81.  I give tours of the mushroom farm whenever the weather isn't below freezing. I don't recommend anything larger than a conversion van. Very small pull behind campers are OK . All campers are required to leave every day from 1 to 5. Belongings may be kept here. There is a bathroom inside the house. No showers , please guys relieve yourself behind a tree instead of tying up a bathroom .. Harpine Highway is nearby and does have some trafffic noise but it's not close enough to discourage most campers.

You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well. We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest. Our facilities are private and we only rent to one or 2 guests at a time. You can glamp in a trailer, or car camp in a nice campground with power and water or you can go primitive and pack in. All spaces include access to our classical 11 circuit labyrinth and backyard gardens where you can enjoy zen rock garden and other contemplative nature crafts. There are some great extra's here as well including an outdoor jacuzzi and indoor infrared sauna and massage chair. These spa features are another great way to get your zen on here. I offer Forest Bathing and individual retreat support sessions, an quarterly sweat lodge and also vision quest support if people would like to experience a solo nature immersion feast.

So although your vehicle will be parked within 50 ft or so from site, you cannot pull directly up to the site and get any closer because of the trees. - SHOWER and PORTA POTTY - roughly a 5 minute or less walk from sites to shower and / or porta potty. Shower hours are 8 am- to 8 pm. The shower has hot and cold running water . You can drive to the shower if you need to. - RESPONSE TIME - This is a working herb farm/ sanctuary and we so do not always have our phones on us. Be happy to give you a tour of the mushroom farm. Learn more about this land: The wooded area is next to my house. There's about 4 acres to explore and a gravel road rarely traveled for a nice walk to a view for a great sunset.  Harrisonburg is 5 minutes from here and has lots of night life, micro breweries etc. I have long power cords if you need electric at the campsite. You may hear owls hooting at night.  The campsite is under white pines with a thick bed of pine needles. There are several campsites under the red cedar trees that are naturally bug and mosquito resistant.     Shenandoah National Park is about 45 minutes away if you go to the 33 entrance and 45 minutes away to go to the Luray entrance. Lots of bears there and hikes to waterfalls. No hunting there.  Solar panels provide half of my energy needs. GW National forest has lots of hiking and mt biking and is half an hour away. Great views of the mountains from the  campsite area.  I'm dedicated to having lots of native plants and trees. I do not spray any pesticides.  Plenty of free firewood. Not too far off interstate 81.  I give tours of the mushroom farm whenever the weather isn't below freezing. I don't recommend anything larger than a conversion van. Very small pull behind campers are OK . All campers are required to leave every day from 1 to 5. Belongings may be kept here. There is a bathroom inside the house. No showers , please guys relieve yourself behind a tree instead of tying up a bathroom .. Harpine Highway is nearby and does have some trafffic noise but it's not close enough to discourage most campers.

Looking for a personal retreat or get away ? Escape to our beautiful, RUSTIC 32 acre wild homestead / farm. A lovely balance between wild and tame. We are 10 minutes from the Potomac River, 10 minutes from Opequon Creek, 20 from Antietam Creek and 30 minutes from the Shenandoah River. Harper's Ferry is 30 minutes way and downtown Historic Shepherdstown is just down the road. We are also close to several state parks. - What do we mean by "RUSTIC" ? The camping experience we offer is about unplugging from the modern world , getting back to basics, slowing down and re-connecting with the land. Simply put, this is CAMPING .... not glamping. (Our Cosmic Cottage is also rustic, despite the amenities that come with it). - CAMPSITES and TREEHOUSE - No electricity or wifi on the land. Campsites and TREEHOUSE are nestled in the woods. So although your vehicle will be parked within 50 ft or so from site, you cannot pull directly up to the site and get any closer because of the trees. - SHOWER and PORTA POTTY - roughly a 5 minute or less walk from sites to shower and / or porta potty. Shower hours are 8 am- to 8 pm. The shower has hot and cold running water . You can drive to the shower if you need to. - RESPONSE TIME - This is a working herb farm/ sanctuary and we so do not always have our phones on us. We will make every effort to respond to you within a few hours. Please be patient and you will receive a response. -BOOKING - If you are interested in booking and / or availability, go to the HIPCAMP BOOKING CALENDAR and enter the dates you are interested in. for the most up to date accurate info on availability. - Feel free to wander through the herb gardens, eat your meals in the garden pavilion (we have picnic tables there and hammocks), get your Zen on in the meditation hut , and stroll through the woodland medicine path where we grow endangered and at at risk plant plants. (heads up.. the woodland medicine path goes to seed by the Fall and is usually munched down by the deer by then, but is still a nice short stroll in the woods).

116 acres of forrest, hills and dells. Miles of hiking trails marked and well maintained. A small pond and beautiful labyrinth. Over 50 acres of deep wilderness woods. General Lee and his troops once camped here. But they cleaned up pretty good, so all you can really see is the old spring and wagon road. This is a working herb and small fruit farm. We have been experimenting with all kinds of exotic herbs and trees. Some make it, many don't. We sell dried herb teas. In addition we have 5 different kinds of bamboo. We use the bamboo for so many things. Camptown is our largest site. It features a large fire pit and a circular field that can accomodate 10 to 15 or more tents. You can also park smaller camper vans, teardrops, etc. in this large area. Good for parties, family reunions. The "# person" per site listing considers adults, not children... bring a whole crew of kids (try to have enough supervision - if there is such a concept!) The kids have such a great time out here... it is amazing. They love the labyrinth! By the way, that labryinth entrance is behind the kiosk. It's the largest of it's kind in North America. It seems like we made this place for the kids in ourselves and when actual kids see it they go wild. The last bunch were running and yelping with their picked flowers all round and round in the labyrinth for hours! Also, if you want peace and quiet we have beautiful remote campsites away from all the kids running around the labryinth whooping it up. (sites 4 - 6 - 8 - 9 - 10)

We spent two nights at #3. It is very well situated in regards to the trail and house. We forgot a pot for coffee and were able to borrow from the house, which we are grateful for. We went 5 min down the road into Bluemont for a visit to the general store and community playground. Great woods, wonderful campfire, kids (6 & 8) had a blast!

These sites are located at the Bear's Den Center along the AT in Virginia. Super cool location, and you can walk to a large brewery/restaurant within 15 minutes. I'd definitely camp here again. Fair warning: while the tent sites are quite large, they are all arranged in a circle. If any of the sites are rambunctious, you will hear it. Didn't bother, but don't come here expecting to be alone.

We usually get up early and do our farm chores, and depending on the time of year we could be bottle feeding baby goats or calves, delivering baby goats, or working on outdoor farm projects. Our home was built in 1864 and our barn is original! Our property is not far from Montpelier, the home of our 4th president, and about an hour from Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. We love wine tasting in Charlottesville, and taking day trips to Shenandoah National Park. We are 45 minutes from Fredericksburg, 28 minutes from Culpeper, and 20 minutes from Lake Anna. Here, you can enjoy the breathtaking vistas, watch the spectacular sunsets, chase fireflies, make a campfire, search for the Milky Way, and then sleep easy in your own queen-sized bed on this historic property. The two original, off-grid, Jefferson Sea Cabins are perched on the eastern side of Ginkgo Ridge, And the newest, the Boxwood Overlook, sits on top of the ridge and includes electricity, AC, heat and lights. Ginkgo Ridge sits on the eastern side of the Southwest Mountains, which is the first mountain range west of the Atlantic. The views are big and far. Some say you can even see Portugal! Wildlife, including eagles, hawks, turkey, fox, rabbit, deer, fireflies and more are abundant on the 66-acre property. If you are interested in history, ask John. He will tell you about the Civil War battle fought here and the tobacco baron who once owned the estate. Two of our cabins are off grid — no electric and no plumbing but with alternative water and light. The third and newest enjoys electric. While there is no "running" water, we bring you fresh spring water. And while there is no electric in 2 cabins we make up for it with solar and battery lights and fans. We also offer a propane heater in all 3 to keep you toasty in cooler weather. Both off-grid cabins are equipped with a comfy, luxury queen-sized bed and box spring with fresh linens and plenty of pillows, a chair, and tables. The cabins are approximately 12x14 of interior living space plus a semi covered 16’ x 8’ deck with chairs and table. The original cabin is slightly smaller interior than the lower cabin. The newest third cabin is called the Boxwood Overlook Cabin, because it is surrounded by huge boxwoods and overlooks the entire property. It sits where the original main house was located, but burned down in the 1920's. It is more luxurious that the other 2. It's 12x20, includes an organic queen bed, refrigerator, reclining chairs, interior and exterior lights. And you can drive right to the front door. Each cabin gets a propane heater which keeps you toasty even on the coldest winter nights. In warmer months, the 2 off-grid cabins have battery-powered fans with plenty of industrial batteries. They also enjoys plenty of solar powered torch lamps which offer a terrific ambiance. We do recommend you bring flashlights and or headlamps. If you forget, no worries, we got you covered. The Boxwood Overlook cabin has electricity with interior and exterior lights, refrigerator and AC in the summer. All the cabins enjoy 5-gallon containers of fresh spring water and their own private Loo House/bathroom. The Loo Houses or bathrooms are semi open air. They have roofs, a solar bag shower, and bedside commodes with large, disposable, biodegradable bag inside with special sand that solidifies your waste. You dispose of the bag at a nearby trash box off property, just like a diaper. Extra bags are available. Each cabin has its own fire pit and grill with everything you need to make a fire, including split wood, kindling, newspaper and lighter. Firewood is $7.50 per crate. And if you need help starting your fire, no worries, John will help you. The "Jefferson Sea" is a description many attribute to the nation's 4th President, Thomas Jefferson, who enjoyed the same ocean-like view (but better) of fields and trees below his home at Monticello, that is located 15 miles down the road. Enjoy giant Ginkgo trees (especially in the Fall), boxwood gardens, colossal Tulip Poplars, and Osage Orange trees, and wild organic raspberries in July. We support BIPOC and all are welcome to enjoy our property :) There is a 2-night minimum on weekends. Just down the hill is the historic town of Gordonsville with perhaps the best BBQ on the east coast, wine tasting room, two breweries, several cafes and restaurants, grocery store and liquor store. Within minutes are Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Madison’s Montpelier and some of the nation’s finest vineyards, including Barboursville Vineyard and many others. The Blue Ridge Mountains, Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park, the University of Virginia and downtown Charlottesville are within 30 minutes. It’s just an hour to Richmond or Harrisonburg and less than two to Washington, DC, or 3 to We are very COVID-conscious!
