Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life.
All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.
We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays. We also don't offer longterm rentals as we focus on short term camping.

The cabin is located on an old apple orchard and budding homestead. It is off-grid and powered by solar. It is a short walk from the parking area (75 steps uphill). The cabin is one room with a kitchenette, hot outdoor shower, and outdoor compost toilet. The cabin can sleep up to three people with a queen bed, futon, and pullout couch. The kitchen includes a gas range, mini fridge, a sink with running water, and basic kitchen cook wear. A propane heater is available for extra warmth on a chilly night. A shelf equipped with books and board games. A propane grill sits on the front porch, and a fire pit out front. The hot outdoor shower and compost toilet are 25 steps from the front door tucked into the tree line. The pond sits in front of the cabin, a picnic table sets by the edge.
We love living simply, and immersed in nature, and have designed the space for others who also share this passion. We often see deer, turkey, bear, fox, and coyote. Maybe you will too! You will love reading your book by the pond while listening to the frog chorus, and taking your evening shower while gazing upon the ancient oaks.
Our location is 15 minutes from the Appalachian Trail and James River access. The Jefferson Washington National Forest is nearby and offers opportunities for visiting waterfalls, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and paddling. Downtown Lynchburg is 20 minutes away with great restaurants, farmers markets and shopping.
We are a growing homestead. We are planting fruits trees, cultivating shiitake mushrooms, raising ducks and tending gardens here and have farm fresh products that are seasonally available to guests just ask!

Share space on our small mountain homestead in the Appalachians. Stay in a tiny cabin with deck space and outdoor food prep area. Be aware there are snakes and spiders; creepy crawlers of all types. We are a chemical free property, please don’t bring toxins onto the site (this includes chemical bug sprays). We’ll help remove critters as needed. Elevation 1200ft; we’re 1/4 mile from Shenandoah National Park. Guided hikes and farm tours available (for a fee) if interested! We also have eggs for sale when our chickens are laying.Come stay in a secluded, relaxed environment where you can unplug and reconnect with Nature. Take naps, sit by the campfire, quietly read or meditate without being attached to your daily gadgets. Take in the mountain air and allow yourself to balance mind, body and spirit.
We love this mountain and consider our home a Beautiful Magical Place! We daily connect with the glorious natural elements surrounding us and give thanks constantly. We’ve learned a lot over the years about living with The Land and want to share this space with like-minded others. We tend to “rise with the Sun, and sleep when it’s done”, so don’t be surprised if you see David or myself, or our kids playing/working on site. If you like to chat, we’re usually available, if you like your privacy, we respect that too. There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc….
We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too!
Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

Our property was a small family farm for several generations. Our family purchased the property about 18 years ago. Since we are not farmers but love living here, the question became "What would be the best use for the land?" Living in a scenic area and already being in the vacation rental business on some other family property answered the question. We decided to share the beautiful view and seclusion of our area with others.
Our goal was to keep the cost of building down so that we could pass on the savings to you so that you would not have to be rich to enjoy our lovely area. This inspired the idea of a glamping cabin. The cabin is actually a repurposed office building that was built about the time this property was purchased by our family. We moved it to the present location and completely remodelled it in 2018 and added the bathroom. For 4 years, guests enjoyed an off-the-grid experience.
In 2023, when we began work on the glamping dome (stay tuned--coming soon!!), we decided to add electricity, running water, and a hot tub to the tiny house!
We hope you enjoy the cabin (and, soon, the dome) and the stunning view from them as much as we enjoy sharing this beautiful spot with you!
Note: The Charming Glamping Cabin is at a totally different property. That property also has a section that used to be farmed. Now a lot of it is forest. We purchased the property around 2000. This cabin was built approx. 10 years later. At that point, the cabin was a tiny economy cabin with a sofa bed. However, it seemed most folks preferred comfort over economy, so in 2020, we added a bump-out to the side of the cabin so there would be room for a queen bed. Guests have loved the improvement. (:

I spent a few days here with my son and it was wonderful! The cabin is great, and has everything you need. The deck facing one of the ponds is wonderful and a great place to sit and hear the fish jumping out of the water, the frogs, and birds. The river is fun and was one of our favorite spots. My son looked and found lots of salamanders, snails, and fish.

We had a wonderful time at Ed's cabin and hope to return soon! The cabin was cute and cozy, providing just enough space for my wife, myself, and our dog. The property it sits on is really the star of the show! Its clear that so much care and attention has been put into the surrounding property to cultivate a truly wonderful and special ecosystem for the plants and wildlife.

Woodpecker 1 was amazing for our daughter’s first time camping. The inside was clean of all bugs. Just a short walk to the pavilion and bathroom. The camp itself is very large and has many different things to explore. Adam was always around camp somewhere if we ever needed anything. The creek is a short walk through the woods. Easy parking for two vehicles.

Weekend Trip to Indian Camp Lane
I loved it! In all honesty, I wish the grass had been cut a bit more recently. It was extremely tall and hadn't been weed whacked in quite some time.
Otherwise, the overall experience was fantastic. Peaceful and quiet. Just what I needed.

Thunder bridge is the perfect hidden gem! The moment you enter the canopy of the forest your mood changes. The log cabins and the screened cabins are perfect for those who do not want to pop up a tent No electricity at the sites but be prepared with backup battery charger or head down to the lodge where there is electricity and WiFi! Bring plenty of drinking water I don’t think the water there is potable. We drank what we boiled and are fine! Adam the owner is great! He checks you in and leaves you alone!

Weekend Trip to Thunder BRidge
We had such a fun weekend camping at Thunderbridge. The campsite is beautiful in the spring time. It did rain all weekend but we stayed in the cabin which was a really cool experience. It’s very cozy with a dining table and a living room area with a fire place. The beds are comfortable and the front porch is an awesome place to chill out. We have access to the creek which the kids loved playing in. Their favorite part was riding their bicycles around the campsite . There is a bathhouse with hot showers and a place to clean gear and dishes. Adam is a great host and brought us firewood when we ran out. We will definitely be back ;)

My family and I have stayed in the retreat cabin twice so far. We absolutely love it there. The property is gorgeous, the river adds to the beautiful charm, and the cabin has all of the creature comforts you could want for glamping. 10/10 would recommend. Already planning to come back as soon as we can!

we loved staying in woodpecker 5! it rained all weekend so it was really nice to have shelter to hang out in and games to play in the community space. very peaceful and low key campground with plenty of space between campsites. can't wait to visit again!

3 nights at Rocky Run Landing
We fully enjoyed our 3 night stay at Rocky Run Cabin. Very private location tucked into the woods with great access to the Tye River. I managed to catch a few panfish a found some spectacular souvenir rocks among the gravels. Birding was eventful and we added a few new birds to our list, Summer Tanager, Indigo Bunting, and Eastern Phobe. The large screened in porch came in handy on the rainy days, super peaceful and quiet. Hope to stay again and Thank you.

Thunder BRidge is such a cool spot. The sites are beautiful and you have tons of privacy. The pavilion by the bath house was a cool place to spend a rainy day. My kids absolutely fell in love with ping pong. Waking up in the screened cabin and feeling the breeze and hearing birds chirping restores the soul!
