We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well. We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest. Our facilities are private and we only rent to one or 2 guests at a time. You can glamp in a trailer, or car camp in a nice campground with power and water or you can go primitive and pack in. All spaces include access to our classical 11 circuit labyrinth and backyard gardens where you can enjoy zen rock garden and other contemplative nature crafts. There are some great extra's here as well including an outdoor jacuzzi and indoor infrared sauna and massage chair. These spa features are another great way to get your zen on here. I offer Forest Bathing and individual retreat support sessions, an quarterly sweat lodge and also vision quest support if people would like to experience a solo nature immersion feast.

But here we are, having envisioned leaving television and the corporate slog behind to build a tiny cabin lodging business in the woods. What we lack in sanity, we make up for in absolute love of the outdoors and the majestic beauty of Highland County, Virginia. The people, the Allegheny Mountains, the star-filled sky, the rushing rivers, the farm-to-table food, the cider, the local honey, and the maple syrup...all of it drew us in, and we made this place our home. Cozy Bear sits right by the large noisy, trout stocked creek, with a private hot tub between the creek and the cabin, and less than five miles from Hillsville, which has a grocery store, local shops, a gym, dining, and nearby hiking. There is a shared bathhouse with a conventional toilet and an outside shower, shared with tent guests occasionally. Inside Cozy Bear, there is a queen mattress up in the loft, and a sleeper sofa downstairs. The kitchen has a sink, coffee maker and on the deck is a blackstone griddle, a propane firepit and a wood burning firepit is by the creek. Cozy Bear has a composting toilet and a shower in the bathroom, an ac window unit and a beautiful propane fireplace. If the temps get extreme outside, the waterlines do freeze. I will gladly do a full refund or change your dates if the forecast is well below freezing, although this cabin is cozy and warm inside. Cozy Bear is solar power/ and grid and is a six mile drive to I-77 and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Inside the Cabin: Our cozy cabin is thoughtfully designed to provide all the comforts of home. It features warm décor, with new furnishings and a well-equipped kitchen for your cooking needs. Main floor sleeping arrangements are a bedroom with new memory foam queen bed, and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. Up the loft steps, a twin bed is located in the "Eagles landing", with a new memory foam double bed in the bedroom. Please be aware that the stairs are quite steep and were not designed with railing. We recommend exercising caution when using them, especially for guests with mobility concerns, young children, or those who may be less sure-footed. Your safety and comfort are important to us, so please take care when choosing your sleeping arrangements. There is one bathroom with a shower downstairs, located off the kitchen. A small washer dryer is also available. Please note, these can accommodate only small loads of laundry. You'll find bath towels and smaller towels specifically for drying off after a relaxing soak in the hot tub. We've stocked quality shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, as well as some basic toiletries in case a guest forgets to bring an item. In the living room, the 55" TV streams Netflix, Hulu or any app on the Roku TV (you will need your own log in). The internet is provided by Starlink and is high speed! The queen bedroom also has a Roku TV, and a selection of board games, cards, and some children's activities are available below the TV. Weekend Trip to Earthwalk Ways Retreat

I had a nearby visit with friends that I took the opportunity to turn into a weekend retreat. Darlene was so nice and welcoming. I appreciate her letting me check in during the evening since I couldn't leave work early. She took the time to show me around the grounds the next morning and then left me to it. The room was cozy and had a nice set up for tea /coffee and any basic cooking you might do on a hot plate. I really enjoyed looking through some of the books in the room, my favorite was an anthology of wisdom and stories from grandmothers. I spent time by the creek and one morning saw 3 deer and a buck wandering across. Also really loved the spa set up. 10/10 I left feeling grounded and will definitely be back the next time I find myself in the area.

Creekside campground is an absolute gem! We started our stay tent camping right by the beautiful, rushing creek, which provided the most relaxing background noise at night. Halfway through our trip, we moved into one of their small, off-grid cabins, and it was the perfect cozy upgrade while still keeping that authentic nature connection. Each site comes with a great fire pit for evening campfires. Our camp host, JoDee, was extremely helpful and made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. The entire property is peaceful, and the clean bathrooms were a major plus. Our dogs were also in absolute heaven here. The property features massive, wide-open areas where they could run, play, and burn off energy safely. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I loved glamping here. The cabin was clean, well maintained and very cozy. The cabin was outfitted like a tiny home with everything we needed to do some cooking, as well as a good size garden tub/ jacuzzi inside. You might get a stop by from the camp site cat (she is very sweet and will hang out with you on the patio) We enjoyed this so much we are planning to come back over the summer; highly recommend Love ridge if you need a cozy cabin in the blue ridge mountains!

As we fled from Hurricane Erin, this mountain retreat was the perfect escape. The owners were incredibly responsive, and we had no trouble checking in. The house itself was spotless and had everything we needed—all we had to bring were our personal items and food. Tucked away on a secluded mountaintop, it was a fantastic spot to continue our summer vacation. The house even had basic supplies for the kids, which was a huge bonus.

The Cozy Bear was a wonderful place to spend a long weekend. The cabin was beautifully designed, and included all the amenities we needed from kitchenware to a coffee bar to a fan. We used the sleeper sofa rather than the loft, and it was very comfortable. The site itself was beautiful; there was another tent within view, but far enough away that we still had privacy. We had great fun paddling in the creek and enjoying the mountain scenery - we hope to return again soon!

The cottage is super cozy, clean, and welcoming! There is a fire pit and grill (charcoal BBQ) available on site. I enjoyed sitting out in the porch and cooking with my portable stove top. The induction works well, but it’s a 2 burner with limited capacity, so plan accordingly. Our hosts were gracious and the entire setting was picturesque and quiet. Would stay again!
