Located on a 66-acre plot just five miles from the Shenandoah River, our property offers amazing access to hiking and the outdoors while also keeping civilization within striking distance. Bear Chase Brewery is just a half mile walk across the street, and we are 15 miles from Purcellville.
The land and lodge used to be the summer home of a trained opera singer, whose singing could be heard throughout the mountain.
Your Host lives onsite in the stone house that also acts as a hostel for hikers on the Appalachian Trail. Built in the 1930's all from locally sourced hand-hammered stone, the house is open every night from 5pm - 9pm.
Note that we offer several campsites relatively close to each other, so you should expect to see and hear other campers on the property during your stay.

You’ll have access to a composting pit toilet, and can access potable water from the tap in the lodge. That’s also where you can access hot showers. As noted above, we host Appalachian Trail thru hikers on the property, so you may see them hanging around or sleeping in the bunkhouse near the shared facilities. so please be respectful of hours when you come in for a shower.

From the flat land at the bottom to the top of the mountain, this is a place where you can find a spot to sit and think, draw, paint, nap, or identify over 30 medicinal plants in their natural habitats (absolutely NO harvesting of medicinals or wildflowers!). Some areas are accessible by wheelchair, while others are not, but all areas offer something to sustain your spirit.

As noted above, we host Appalachian Trail thru hikers on the property, so you may see them hanging around or sleeping in the bunkhouse near the shared facilities. so please be respectful of hours when you come in for a shower.
No showers after 10 pm
For meals, we have picnic tables, and you are encouraged to cook over the fire pits that accompany each site. Please practice Leave No Trace practices during your stay, as the property has raccoons and other critters who will be drawn to any food scraps that are left behind.
Pets are allowed! Please keep them on leash during your stay.
Trash can be disposed of in dumpster up the hill

Just 1.6 miles from an Appalachian trail access point, our site is a beautiful slice of Blue Ridge mountain life. We have a small hobby farm with chickens, peacocks, and livestock guardian dogs (who bark at night). The rest of the property is wooded, with a 1/2 acre clearing great for tents and campers. PLEASE NOTE: at least one camper must be 21+. Until May 1, fires only from to 4pm-midnight due to local restrictions. You may purchase firewood from us or gather your own. :-)

I stayed in the tiny house with my daughter and we had a wonderful time. The animals are amazing, so friendly and social, my daughter and I did the morning feeding add on and got to feed baby cows, hold chickens and baby goats! The hosts are so helpful, not only with the animals but any request I had they were so accommodating. 10/10 recommend this place!

This is one of our favorite HipCamps we’ve been to! Even though there are multiple sites in the property, they’ve spaced them out so well (at least 1/2 a mile from each other) so it feels totally private and peaceful. Our site was right next to the river in a big field, and it gave us the best of both worlds with both trees and open sky. There’s a nice little nature trail on the property that led to a wildlife center, which was a fun daytime activity. The waterfall and creek were also super neat to walk to and see. Next time, we will definitely pack our fishing pole and supplies for even more onsite activities.

30 ft fifth wheel
We enjoyed or stay here. Park is in a valley surrounded by the beautiful Shenandoah mountains. You can walk along the Shenandoah river. Road leading to the campground is very steep, so make sure your vehicle is capable of pulling your camper out. We had a hiccup the last day, but Mandy worked with us to stay another night, which we appreciated. All in all, a nice place. We will definitely stay here again.

We needed a place to stay on our way from PA to Shenandoah and this worked out perfectly! I wish we could have arrived earlier so as to enjoy the campground a bit more, but we were pleased with the parts we did experience (neat site, clean facilities). It was nice to be so close to the park!

Weekend Trip to South River Farm Campground
Beautiful yurt sites and really enjoyed the peaceful river walk! We had a couple of cool nights and it was nice that the bathroom was heated. 🩵 Just a warning that the bathroom is a decent walk from the sites. But worth it for the sounds of the river at night.

I loved this little campground and will be back! It wasn't quite what I was expecting as the "private" label was a bit misleading. Site number 3 is right in the middle of all the other sites and didn't feel private at all. But a great experience if you want to make friends!

My wife and I spent 2 nights at the farm. We meet Jaren and I must say he is a very nice gentleman. We love seeing the horses and the other animals. Coffee the cat greeted us shortly after arrival to the site and would greet us several times a day. We liked that we had full hookups with 30amp service. The views are spectacular of the blue ridge mountains. We will definitely book again.

The farm is great. Excellent location for all the parks and recreation. Host was responsive. Everyone friendly.. Space was vast. Just a little quick note… if you’re riding a motorcycle (like I was), careful not to take it into pasture (through the gate), especially if it gets wet. You may have trouble getting out/up the hill.
Otherwise, very enjoyable place and a bunch of beautiful animals to venture up to.
