2 nights at Bears Den Campground

The site was clean sat in a lovely ring of trees and other sites. There are two privy’s at these sites and then another up by the lodge. Each site comes with one bucket of wood per day, which was enough to last us for the day. It is primitive camping and everything is available, but self serve. We were looking to get away from civilization, so this was perfect for us.

Great location. 100 yard walk down the road to Bear Den brewery was perfect to wait out the rain. Nice site with firepits and good flat renting areas and picnic table. Directly off AT so short walks or long hikes are all accessible. The small nature loop to see the view was a dream for an evening walk. Perfect to get out of dc and be totally in the woods within an hour and change drive. And the price is unbelievable, what a value! I’d second the request from another reviewer to add the option to pay the parking fee in the booking! Although they have added a PayPal feature so cash isn’t required any more. Note it’s not private at all. The sites are all clustered in the same clearing. It’s a friendly vibe, and everyone was respectful, and went to bed early. But conversations spoken in normal tone were easily overheard!

I am an avid camper with 100+ nights of camping experience in different places, this has to be one of my favorite places I’ve ever stayed. Everything surprised me in the best way by exceeding my expectations. Glen the host is very accommodating and helpful, our site was beautiful with plenty of room and it’s super close to the AT and a really nice outlook. Not to mention the free bucket of firewood and everyone I met in the area was super friendly. I will definitely be coming back!

We loved camping at Scott’s Land. It was a huge space with a fire pit. It was nice with the trees for getting some shadow and a protection from the wind. Scott himself was amazing! Super warm-hearted and welcoming! Totally recommend!

Campsite is beautiful. Overlooks the River, and you can see the sunset on a clear evening - stunning! Lots of ducks, bald eagles, so much wildlife! We brought our dogs and they loved it! 100% privacy aside from the fishermen on the water that occasionally appear in their boats. The host is MORE than accommodating!!! Gave us firewood, answered questions, and was more than happy to help with anything. He is very good about taking care of the toilet and cleaning up the site before/after each camper. Ask him about the water before wanting to kayak - he is knowledgeable and will let you know! Look at the weather before you go - As others have said, be careful on a rainy weekend. It can pool into your tent site if you’re not prepared. We had an experience with high winds that almost took the tent away, so be mindful. The host provides a shelter which was very helpful to keep things dry. Beware of ticks and mosquitos! No seriously - Bring that corticosterone cream. The host nicely laid out moth balls along the campsite but the bugs can get bad if the air is muggy and humid. We have stayed at a lot of Hipcamp sites. This is our absolute favorite. I wish it could stay a hidden gem. However it deserves recognition. 10/10 recommendation

Great spot and Denise is a great host. There is a bit of road noise from the site so you don't feel totally out there on your own, but the fireflies were beautiful across the field. There are nice walking trails on the property, too.

Our group absolutely loved this stay, and we plan to be back again this year hopefully. Great sites, spread out from other sites/campers, with ample space for our dogs. Wonderfully kept farm, and the grass-fed beef on the way out was great as well (we wish we bought more for our freezer)!

It’s a nice spot that we will come to again. The land is cleared but also good tree coverage. Small creek next to the site provides nice sound and kids can play as well. Playset and trampoline also good for entertaining. You can walk property to see horses, chickens and a peacock. Keith stopped by to say hi and check in as well. Highly recommend.

My family had a great time here. We had plenty of space and the creekside lot was flat and accommodating. The creek provided a lot of fun for the kids and great background noise while sleeping. 30 minutes from Washington, DC, nestled within winding scenic roads, a small sign for a narrow one-lane bridge marks the hidden entrance to our 4-acre manicured forest Hideaway. Find an idyllic weathered two-story barn with electrical outlets, a guest bed, a fire circle, hot pepper gardens with rare and super-hot varietals decorating the porch with outdoor table and last-minute BBQ-ing supplies for sale, and, if you ask politely, a hot shower (or cold if we’re out of heating fuel). Depending on site or access, you may be unwinding in the trees, or under the shelter of the barn, gazing out through the large double bay doors. As the moon rises high above the tree tops, lightning bugs emerge and twinkle in the night air, blending the bounds of earth and the starry skies.  The next morning enjoy the sounds of bird song so diverse and chatty you’re likely wonder like I did if you were awakening in a tropical jungle, and not the NoVAn outskirts of Washington, DC. Later in the afternoon, see the Corvids and Falcons gracing skies, or rough and tumbling for territory within the copious canopy above, occasionally crashing tree branches in their battles. Some weekdays or weekends, a visitor may sight the OG Wizards of Langley (Our Local Robotics / UAS Club in Great Falls) with their drones, operating under an FCC Club license, duking it out in the sky and signal space in the big backyard which is delightfully just within a number of fly zone permissions, despite that across the street you’ll find the edge of the Zone 1 RED Zone of Washington DC. Folks with similar hobbies must check in 14 days in advance with Proof of Licensing, and Writ of Intent for flying, and the hosts will get back with approval or request for modification. As the day fades to dusk, families of deer graze and meander across the lawns, and at the first sound of people high tail it into the surrounding forested hills, flashing their white tails as they leap across the 5’ ravine at the edge of The Hideaway’s soft and grassy forest camp grounds. Lodgers: One guest bathroom with a standing-room only shower provides hot water, and basic toiletries to lodging guests. In case of weather, the 4 12-foot high bay doors to the barn can be opened to provide shelter from the rain without compromising access and view to the outdoors. Campers: To remain within compliance of HipCamp's rules, you must bring your own camp toilet: pack in and pack out. We are working on better options, such as renting a Port-a-Potty, so, please mind our dust and remember that we expect your compliance, too. A quick visit to The Villages of Great Falls opens a courtyard with Artist's Studios, incredibly smells of local restaurants representing the many villages that locals are united to in their walks of life. Guidebooks for a busy weekend calendar across Summer Solstice are available at the many businesses. At Oliver's Corner, there is a butcher open until 5pm. The Safeway is 7 minutes away, and closes at 9pm. Every year in the spring there are 4-6 Thoroughbred foals born that eventually will become racehorses. They live on the farm until they are 2 years old and then they go off to begin their racing career. We once raised tobacco and cattle and have now converted to growing hay and grain. My family wants to share the views and the experience of sleeping under the stars on our beautiful secluded farm. Set up your tent on an open plot or pull your truck or camper directly to the site. Once night settles in don’t forget to look up and gaze at the stars that appear just through the rising treetops. If it’s a cloudy night or you're looking for additional ambiance, you have the option to turn on the battery powered string lights that have been set up throughout the campsite. As an added touch, this time of year you’ll also find seasonal decorations hung through out the trees.
