It used to be called Common View Farm. We hear the name came from the fact that we can see the Craftsbury Common from the height of the property. Legend holds that people have seen strange lights and orbs in the area. It may just be a yarn told by the locals to the new flatlanders. You can see the Lowell wind farm on the horizon. We have a large garden and raspberry patch. When in season, you are free to pick! The house on the property, Larry built. It's a beauty. He also has two shops and some barns. No shortage of farm implements. You are welcome to walk to your heart's content and to visit Ruby and the boys. Learn more about this land: The Northwoods Gypsy Wagon is a 3-minute walk into the woods from the parking area. You can have all the solitude you'd like or visit the nearby towns. We have four yurts nestled on a knoll among maples, beeches, balsam, and other trees. They each are positioned for a sense of privacy from the others and have little paths connecting them. They all are well loved and humble, beautiful, light filled circular spaces with a round dome skylight, lattice siding, windows with screens for summer use and in winter extra insulation provided by window quilts. Each yurt has a wood stove for colder weather. The yurts are furnished simply with various configurations of single and double beds, tables, chairs, shelving, and sheepskins or other floor rugs. At night a few of the paths are lit with solar lamps, so it is wise to bring a flashlight/headlamp as well. Beeswax candles provide inside night lighting. Some of the yurts have string, solar lights around the inside of the yurt walls. We have 5 bell tents that are lovely, roundish shaped tents with a peak. Four of them are smaller, one-person tents, and one is larger for a couple or 2 people. We provide amattress and pillow with organic bedding and a sheepskin rug, and a simple storage crate/table. It’s a good idea to bring a sleeping bag for extra warmth, especially in the potentially colder shoulder seasons in May and in September. If you have a tent, insulated ground mat, and sleeping gear, we have many inspiring sites in the surrounding forest glades, meadows, and fields. Those who choose to camp have access to outdoor composting toilets, a hot water outside faucet for bucket bathing, and outdoor shower available in the warmer seasons. Camping requires a certain hardiness and adequate gear. Weather during the growing season (May – October) in the mountains of Vermont is unpredictable. Temperatures range from freezing temperatures at night in the spring and fall to gloriously warm days and even hot days.

Prior to being a dairy farm consisting of over 500 acres, the property served as a tavern, inn, tannery, and has always been a traditional, well-loved farmhouse. Main House Front Porch The front porch of the main house has continued to be a wonderful gathering place with outstanding sunset views and surrounding terraced gardens with blossoms and berries that attract hummingbirds and bees. We serve meals from the adjoining big kitchen, and these can be enjoyed on the porch or taken on trays to the nearby Plum Grove, other outdoor settings. We can give further directions and information about the region when you are here. Our stays range from basic tent sites to Yurts and Canvas Tents. We have something for everyone. We have four yurts nestled on a knoll among maples, beeches, balsam, and other trees. They each are positioned for a sense of privacy from the others and have little paths connecting them. They all are well loved and humble, beautiful, light filled circular spaces with a round dome skylight, lattice siding, windows with screens for summer use and in winter extra insulation provided by window quilts. Each yurt has a wood stove for colder weather. The yurts are furnished simply with various configurations of single and double beds, tables, chairs, shelving, and sheepskins or other floor rugs. At night a few of the paths are lit with solar lamps, so it is wise to bring a flashlight/headlamp as well. Beeswax candles provide inside night lighting. Some of the yurts have string, solar lights around the inside of the yurt walls. We have 5 bell tents that are lovely, roundish shaped tents with a peak. Four of them are smaller, one-person tents, and one is larger for a couple or 2 people. We provide amattress and pillow with organic bedding and a sheepskin rug, and a simple storage crate/table. It’s a good idea to bring a sleeping bag for extra warmth, especially in the potentially colder shoulder seasons in May and in September. If you have a tent, insulated ground mat, and sleeping gear, we have many inspiring sites in the surrounding forest glades, meadows, and fields. Those who choose to camp have access to outdoor composting toilets, a hot water outside faucet for bucket bathing, and outdoor shower available in the warmer seasons. Camping requires a certain hardiness and adequate gear. Weather during the growing season (May – October) in the mountains of Vermont is unpredictable. Temperatures range from freezing temperatures at night in the spring and fall to gloriously warm days and even hot days.

Weekend Trip to Rooted Acres Farm

We had such a lovely stay here! The host was incredibly responsive to all our questions, and the cabin was exactly what we were looking for. It came with a portable heater inside that kept us warm at night (just remember to turn on the gas outside first!). Without proper winter clothing, it might be a bit chilly to stay here during the colder months, but we went toward the end of October and it was still perfect! And the hot tub!! Such a clever and wonderful addition! Just a heads up: you’ll need to build a strong fire to get it hot within about 3 hours, and you’ll likely want to make two fires - one for the tub and another to sit back and enjoy. Be sure to bring lanterns, as it gets dark pretty quickly once the sun sets. Even though we had cloudy skies, we could tell that on a clear night the stargazing would be incredible. The cabin is well-equipped with dishes and running water for light cooking, brushing teeth, etc. There’s also a small convenience store about 8 minutes away on the main road. Overall, we would highly recommend this place. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning!

This was my second stay at the Zen Cabin. I just love the peace that surrounds the whole property. The cabin is very comfortable and there's a nice propane stove to keep it warm. I can't say enough about how good the well water is. For me, this is the perfect place to disconnect with the chaos of the world and connect with nature. Beautiful!

HOWL is at the bas of Camel's Hump! It's an easy drive to the trailhead and one heck of a hike up. Totally worth it! There are equally cozy or adventurous options all around HOWL.

Weekend Trip to Broadfork Farmstead

I really enjoyed staying on the bus—it was such a unique experience! I was grateful it was available for a last-minute booking that same night. Carol’s communication and responsiveness were excellent, making check-in smooth even with my late-night arrival. The bus itself was cozy and charming, set right on the farm with a clean outhouse just steps away, equipped with a motion light for nighttime use. Inside, the space was thoughtfully arranged with a small table, chairs, two sofa beds, and foldable mattresses. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and each window had blinds to block out light. It was a cold night, but I came prepared with sleeping bags, extra blankets, and heating pads. Carol also offers a space heater as an add-on, which I’d recommend during cooler seasons! A pleasant surprise was the power bar which was so useful for charging my devices and the bus also had reliable Wi-Fi! I only stayed one night but wish I’d had more time to explore the farm, there were adorable animals on my way out! I also wish I’d tried the breakfast add-ons as they looked delicious. Overall, it was a memorable stay that I’d definitely recommend. I got to tell all my friends that I slept on a bus and had a great story to tell! Thanks Carol :)

I had a wonderful two night stay on The Bus. My friend joined me the first night, but had to get back to work, so my second night was solo. We both found the accommodation funky and comfortable. As a farm girl, myself, I always love to be around piglets, chickens, dogs, cows… Carol was a very warm, gracious hostess, eager to share her insights on local attractions. Her breakfasts and cheese plate displayed impressive attention to detail, using superb local ingredients and so artfully arranged, include cloth napkins tucked into baskets. I hope I am able to return next year, and have already recommended her place and the area to friends looking for a satisfying roaming destination.
