We are located on the Green Mountain Gravel Growler bike packing trail and 7 miles south of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. We have lots of hiking , biking, boating and swimming opportunities nearby. Our amenity's include a bath house with two flush toilets and a hot shower. We also have a washer and dryer available for our campers. Welcome to Slatki Dom (“Sweet Home” in Bosnian), our beautiful retreat in the woods. Our land abuts a hiking trail on the side of Spruce Mountain, and we are about ¼ mile from the trailhead to the Spruce Mountain Trail and L.R. Jones State Forest, the oldest state forest in Vermont. Cross-country skiing trails are nearby, and ski resorts are 40 minutes to an hour away. Ten minutes down the road is the quaint Plainfield Village, with a small pizza shop, used bookstore, café, and gas station. Five minutes farther is Fox Market and Bar, along with the River Oddities shop. A twenty-minute drive from the cabin brings you to the cities of Montpelier or Barre, which host a variety of museums, parks, local stores, restaurants, and a few larger chains and grocery stores. At night, the futon folds into a double bed that comfortably sleeps two. There are lamps upstairs and downstairs, as well as plenty of outlets to charge your devices for the next day’s adventures. Accessibility Notes: Parking is available for two cars. There is a 500-foot walking path through the woods to the cabin. The cabin is not ADA accessible and has a set of steep stairs— not quite a ladder, but steep! No pets, please, as we have two sweet cats and a loving dog who prefer to have their space. 🙂

Bridgeview Harbour Marina is a family owned and operated full service marina, event space, and camping area on the Adirondack shore of Lake Champlain. Established in 2020 the Marina provides seasonal and overnight slips and moorings to boaters, fisherman, and lake-goers, three camp sites, and an on-site cafe. Marina services are available May thru October each year, with other events and services available throughout the year. The marina is set on 33 acres along Lake Champlain and hosts ~4150 feet of lake-frontage, it is accessible via car, boat, or via the adjacent Amtrak rail line. Prior to becoming a marina in 1989, the property was home to a very large Iron Foundry, rail yard, and barge-loading operation known as Cedar Point. Cedar point, part of the larger Witherbee-Sherman Mining Company, operated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries smelting iron ore to be shipped throughout the world via the Lake Champlain Canal and Hudson River, and is credited with providing iron to some of America's leading projects at the time. Learn more about this land: Texas Hill Brook camp site The Texas Hill Brook site is a flat, wooded campsite on Texas Hill Brook in Huntington. The campsite is roughly 10m x 30m (30' x 100'), large enough for several tents or a small camper/RV. It is accessed by a sloped 50m (about 150') gravel driveway. The narrowest part of the driveway is 2.6m (about 8.5 feet). There is a 3m x 3m (10' x 10') tent platform and a large picnic table. Firewood is provided. Near our home about 120m/400 feet away through the trees but relatively private. Within a short pedal or drive to some of the best mountain biking and hiking Vermont has to offer, 15 minutes to Richmond and Hinesburg, and just a half hour to Burlington. There are many local hikes, national and state parks, the Quechee Gorge, white water rapids, The VAST (snowmobile trails), ski resorts and array of local events to attend.

Learn more about this land: Texas Hill Brook camp site The Texas Hill Brook site is a flat, wooded campsite on Texas Hill Brook in Huntington. The campsite is roughly 10m x 30m (30' x 100'), large enough for several tents or a small camper/RV. It is accessed by a sloped 50m (about 150') gravel driveway. The narrowest part of the driveway is 2.6m (about 8.5 feet). There is a 3m x 3m (10' x 10') tent platform and a large picnic table. Firewood is provided. Near our home about 120m/400 feet away through the trees but relatively private. Within a short pedal or drive to some of the best mountain biking and hiking Vermont has to offer, 15 minutes to Richmond and Hinesburg, and just a half hour to Burlington. Electricity on site, primitive fire pit, but no other facilities, so ALL waste must be packed out. We have a bucket commode to loan if you don’t have your own.

This off-the-grid homestead sits on a quiet dirt road just outside the quaint village of Chester. Spread across 28 acres, the property features streams and trails to explore. The 8' x 14' Studio, complete with an accessible entry ramp, offers an elevated porch overlooking the garden, Adirondack chairs, an outdoor kitchen with table, grill and two-burner camp stove as well as a fire pit. Guests also have access to an accessible bathroom with a clawfoot tub located in the main house, about 250 feet from the Studio. An outdoor shower attached to the main house is also available. A wood-fired barrel sauna can be reserved for an additional charge. Frank, Julie, and their a very chill black Lab, Skye (who roams off-leash) welcome all visitors, from local to international, LGBTQ+, and those of all abilities. Huntress Haven Farm is located in the scenic valley of the First Branch of the White River. One of the main attractions to the farm is the dairy goat herd (kids of all ages LOVE them) Because of the livestock we cannot allow dogs. In addition, we have farm dogs on the property; the dogs are very friendly, but they are also protective of the livestock. Guests have lots of fun access to the animals and are welcome to participate in milking and chores. There are many foraging opportunities year-round. Perfect snow get away. Wood burning stove and heater kept us warm, even with just one. Enjoyed listening and looking through the vinyls. Loved the hot tub after a long day of hiking and the comfy bed. The cabin was cute and felt very lived in. It was a nice surprise to see a journal of how many people stayed there, especially during Covid, very lovely notes people left! Only down side - couldn’t stop sneezing at times, lots of dust in the crevices of the wood floor and fabric. Also wish there was a bit more privacy at the door and hot tub, could see the guest next door. Overall definitely would recommend and stay again!

We enjoyed the horse run in! The run in was clean and had everything we needed. Very much enjoyed the wood burning stove, hot tub, and fire pit. We found the dvd player, books, and record player charming. The farm is beautiful and we enjoyed the town of Londonderry. While the listed rules were a bit overwhelming, Ben and Loana were very kind and hospitable and easy to deal with (it was only surprising bc the rules had set a bit of a different tone). I would highly recommend.

Jon was most accommodating and a wealth of local information. He loaned us an electric heater for our camper so we didn't have to use the noisy one installed. The driveway was a bit daunting for backing up but we did it without too much effort. There's a great hike with waterfalls on the property and a cute cafe close by with good food and live music. The bathrooms were the cleanest and nicest I have seen camping! We will definitely return!

Beautiful location, accommodating and welcoming hosts. Very nice clean bathrooms, showers, and laundry! Best I've ever seen at a camp ground. Sites are pretty private with their own sink and tent. It is in the middle of nowhere but pretty easy to find off the main road. Dog friendly. Wish we could have stayed longer!

The open secluded space provided was amazing and having firewood on site was top notch. Very beautiful view to wake up too and the trails were great and the trees was so beautiful. Would definitely come back again!! The host was great and showed us where our campsite was when we got there late, 😅 she was nice to wait up. They have hot showers which was great and a cute little farmers market where she had the veggies and eggs there to purchase. Plus there were cows there to see, so cute! Where to go

Moosalamoo National Recreation Area

Nestled into the western slope of the Green Mountains just twenty minutes from Rochester, the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area offers hiking and mountain biking trails, several camping areas, and plenty of scenic views. The area’s highlight is the Robert Frost Trail, an interpretive trail that commemorates Robert Frost’s poetry and introduces hikers to the area's landscape.

Chittenden Reservoir

The Chittenden Reservoir is tucked into the Green Mountain National Forest about 45 minutes from Rochester. This pristine lake is a popular spot for motor boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and swimming. There’s also several miles of trails around the lake for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snow-shoeing adventures. 

Branbury State Park

Located at the base of Mt. Moosalamoo, on the eastern shore of Lake Dunmore about 30 minutes west of Rochester, Branbury State Park is a great spot for boating, kayaking, fishing, and swimming. The park offers 36 campsites suitable for tents and trailers as well as seven lean-to sites for tent campers.     

When to go

The Green Mountain National Forest surrounding Rochester, Vermont is open year-round. Summer is the best time for camping, hiking, and water sports as long as you come prepared for mosquitoes and other biting bugs. The Green Mountain National Forest is also one of the best places to see fall foliage in Vermont. The Lake Dunmore area is particularly pretty in fall and colors are best between late September and middle of October. 

Know before you go

  1. Rochester has a small grocery store, a few restaurants, and a bike shop.
  2. Many national forest and state park campgrounds near Rochester offer advanced reservations online. Parks typically have a handful of sites on a first-come, first-served basis too. 
  3. Bears are common in the Green Mountains, so secure food in bear-proof containers.
