If you're looking for a wilder campsite surrounded by huge old trees and all the peace the woods have to offer, just request Campsites 4, 5, 7, or 8. Each of these sites requires a walk of at least 50' from your vehicle to the fire ring. Site 13 is only for backpackers or people willing to hike about 500 yards to the campsite over rough terrain. There is no way to drive to it or even get close except on foot. But it is spectacular and beautiful! Only three sites can accommodate a smaller trailer or camper. Site 1, Site 2, and site 6. Please notify me in your booking if you intend to bring a camper and I can accommodate you. We practice leave-no-trace as much as possible. So please pack out anything you pack in. You are responsible for removing all trash. If any garbage is left behind in your site you will be billed for the cleanup. We have a dumpster located near the front gate. Please use it and put all your trash in there. Heads-up! We have a small farm on the property. Dogs are always welcome and we LOVE our furry friends! For their safety and the safety of our livestock please keep them leashed while on property.

A couple of our old buildings, the "jacals", are dated from around the 1830-40's. You'll also see the old "Dance Hall" which is great for hanging out or even some cover if it rains. They say that Santa Anna's army, invading from Mexico, may have crossed through our area on their way to the Alamo. This may be because our part of the river includes some of the more shallow areas of the Medina River. Weekend Trip to Boulderdash Cabin & Camping

We enjoyed camping at site #2, along the Medina River. The stars were bright and we could hear the river. The shower and restrooms were clean. Valerie, one of the hosts, was very welcoming and friendly. My only issue was this one mocking bird who woke us up each day…we think they either thought our car was a bird feeder or that their reflection was a possible mate. They attacked the side of my car over and over, until we put a towel are that part of the car. Aside from the bird, a very peaceful stay.

This Hipcamp spot is hands down one of the best we’ve stayed at. The property is massive (around 1100 acres), which makes it perfect for overlanders who want space, privacy, and the freedom to truly choose their own camp spot. There are plenty of trails to explore, and the terrain keeps things interesting without feeling crowded or restricted. Warren, the host, was outstanding. He checked on us several times to make sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. He was also incredibly kind with our kids and even let them play together, which made the experience feel more like visiting friends than just camping. If you’re into overlanding, off-grid camping, or just want a wide-open Texas camping experience, this place is hard to beat. Easily one of the best spots in Texas and we’ll definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Boulderdash Cabin & Camping

This was my second time staying here and it did not disappoint. It even got better! There is a new bathroom ‘bivvy’ near the riverside campsites that made those late night/ early morning nature calls way easier to handle with no hill to climb. The owners were fantastic once again and I really valued their site manager, Valerie. She provided excellent customer support and had our firewood already at our campsite so we didn’t need to haul it down. This past weekend was very relaxing and peaceful. Will come back again. Highly recommend.

Weekend Trip to Lost Woods

We stayed at Campsite 5 at Lost Woods and had a great experience overall. It rained the first 2–3 hours after we arrived, but we were able to get our tent set up just in time and waited it out. The site included a picnic table, a campfire setup, two chairs, and a small grill, which made things really convenient. There were also a few little paths toward the back of the campsite that our little furbabies had fun exploring. It was pretty secluded and private, which we appreciated. You can hear some traffic at night, but it didn’t ruin the experience for us. We had a good time and would definitely stay here again.

Super clean, high quality amenities. The sauna was awesome, love the smell of cedar. We tent camped, i would say if you come after a rain like we did, be careful on the road to the tent camping area as we had a Subaru forester that still slid around quite a bit in the mud. Overall I’d definitely recommend the spot, especially to tent campers who want to get away from everyone else while still having good amenities

Weekend Trip to Old Herrera Ranch - Medina River

What a cool place! A historic site with a lot of character. It was actually accidentally listed when it wasn't open but the host very. Kindly let me camp there anyway! I'm very grateful and I loved having the place to myself, especially with all the history and old buildings. I didn't realize how close to the road it is so you can hear cars on that main highway. But it was also still winter and there weren't any leaves on the trees. So I'm sure that helps dampen the noise when the foliage is full. And it still didn't take away from the camping experience. Eventually I'd like to go back and spend time on the river. Thanks again to the hosts, would definitely recommend and the stargazing was awesome!!!

Enjoyed my stay at Dots! Dot was very friendly and accommodating. The RV spots were in the shade of some oak trees. The full utilities worked great and the spot was peaceful, pastoral and quiet. I’ll plan to stay there again if I’m in the area.

Site 6 was tucked into a lovely tree lined thicket. And all was peaceful quiet. The dirt road going to the site was one on which to go slow with a trailer in tow. We’d go again to site 6.

Weekend Trip to The Charmadillo: Glamping Resort

I LOVED staying at the A frame cabins (#7) on Sarah’s land! The Charmadillo was beautifully kept and the amenities were fantastic!! Everything you could need for camping was included with our stay, including a well stocked industrial kitchen and firewood for a campfire. We cooked all meals there during our stay, and I throughly enjoyed every moment. The view from the kitchen was beautiful. I also especially enjoyed the sauna, it stayed on from sunset to midnight. The cold weather in February made all the warmth feel amazing. We had the sauna to ourselves during the stay and it felt cozy and romantic. The outhouse bathroom and shower rooms were clean, air conditioned, and meticulously designed. I enjoyed all the attention to detail, like a pleasant tobacco woodsy oil diffuser and eucalyptus in the bathrooms. My two pups also enjoyed exploring the property. There is a big field out by the tent sites that was fun to run around in. The whole property has so many spots to relax in. I visited for my birthday and I think I might make it a yearly trip, this was one of the best camping (“glamping”) experiences I’ve ever had. I am definitely recommending this place to my friends!
