I had such a great experience at this campsite! Wonderful secluded spot where you really feel connected with nature. Lots of land you can explore and my dog was able to roam around freely. Host was very nice and responsive and even helped fill up our air mattress when our air pump wasn’t working. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice camping spot near the water!

Weekend Trip to Happy Horse Camp & RV Getaway

What went well? EVERYTHING was better than described or expected. My wife and I were met by Bo (sorry if not the spelling). Smiling from ear to ear and just an overall wonderful person. He helped us take our things to our cabin and described different things that we could do. Everything from a scavenger hunt to harmonica lessons. Beautiful property nestled away from traffic or prying eyes. The cabins are spaced well far apart so you do not feel like others are in your business. I could not believe how well stocked the cabin was. Plenty of blankets, heaters, ceiling fans, air conditioning, cookware, microwave - this was literally the easiest camping experience I've ever had and I'm 55 lol. They also have a fire pit area for each individual cabin to make the experience even nicer. We spent 2 evenings and just had a blast. There are plenty of places to get wonderful food, beverages or any other thing you and your family might need. This is a must stop for camping on a wonderful level. Each cabin also had its own 5 star outhouse and 5 star is the truth! Absolutely cleaner than public restrooms with every necessity. I highly recommend this camping spot!

Super great place!! I was by myself and felt safe and enjoyed the tranquil scenery with tons of birds and wild life. The creek was perfect! Host were available if I needed anything. I will definitely be going back!!

Weekend Trip to 5D RANCH

We had an amazing experience at this campsite! Our group consisted of two families with children ranging from 5 to 11 years old, and the ranch was the perfect size for them. The kids had a blast riding their bikes to the lake, fishing from the boats, and paddling around in the boats. The sunsets over the lake were absolutely stunning, and the overall vibe of the site was everything we hoped for. It felt like we were immersed in the forest, surrounded by trees, which made the experience even more magical. The site itself was spotless, and we really appreciated the thoughtful touches, like the rural toilet near Site 12. It was equipped with toilet paper, a light with a sensor, and added a level of comfort we weren't expecting. Even the family dog was friendly and welcoming, which was a nice bonus! Julie’s family made the experience even more special. Everyone was incredibly kind, and we enjoyed chatting with them. Eddie, in particular, shared fascinating stories from his wonderfully adventurous life. We’re already looking forward to returning and exploring other sites! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a peaceful, family-friendly camping experience.

This is our second trip to 5D ranch. We brought out a small group of kids to celebrate an 11th birthday. Julie was wonderful in introducing us to her horses. Campsite 22 was perfect for our needs. We will be back!

Jody's hideaway was a great spot. Easy to find. Gate has a clear sign on it. Just inside the gate is a mailbox with a nice handrawn map of the property for reference. You're free to camp anywhere, but if you go to the back section where the wooded area is are several spots to camp. Campers are free to explore anywhere and even drive the property, just stay on the perimeter of the hay fields. I definitely recommend this hipcamp.

The views were beautiful, first morning I heard the rooster crowing and cows mooing, didn’t see either, enjoyed the meet n greet with the horses and ponies! Everyone was super helpful and respectful. The wind blowing in the tall pines and all the birds singing was delightful. Bonus seeing people bring their horses here to ride! Slept 9 hours one night and had a 3 hour nap one day. Just want I needed!! Will definitely be back!!

6 Acres for the Mind, Body, & Soul

Quiet natural location away from the busy city. Located on a private access uneven dirt road so a 4x4 or all wheel drive vehicle is recommended. There is a firepit but please burn inside the cinder blocks area and keep it under control (not too big). Do not burn when it is windy. There is plenty of branches and wood to use for the fire pit. Please make sure to completely put fire out when done. There are 6 acres and you are welcome to camp anywhere you like, in the open areas or in the woody areas in the back. We have a RV barn area that can be used for shade, sitting, eating, relaxing, etc. You can use the tables and chairs. There is also a white water container on the table that you can use for washing. There is a 32 gallon trash bucket that you can put trash in but make sure lid is closed when you're done to keep animals out. This site does not have electric power or running water so please plan accordingly. There is currently not a toilet available but I'm planning on building a composting toilet soon. For now, use the natural way and make sure to bury. For security, there is one camera on the property located near the front entrance. It is mainly for monitoring the front entrance area. This site can also be used for long term parking/storing your RV or vehicle but we are not liable for anything that happens. If interested, please contact me or use the app called "Neighbor". The RV barn currently already has a RV inside it so that parking space can't be used. Our long-term plan is to also make the RV available but we would need to install an in ground septic system and electricity first. Disclaimer: The area is located in nature. There could be all kind of animals like deers, insects, and even snakes. We will not be liable for anything that happens on the land so please be careful.

The Huber family began its legacy of farming and ranching in 1868 when Samuel Isaak Huber, an immigrant from Switzerland, settled in Cat Spring, Texas. His son, Henry, and grandson, Lawrence, followed in his footsteps. Lawrence, a pretty good horseman and roper, used his winnings to acquire more land during the depression. He and his wife, Edna Schaffner Huber, willed the land to their twin daughters, Mary and Faye. Mary and her husband, Eddie, settled on the home place in 1970. Since that time, they have continued to build a strong and vibrant beef cattle operation. Eddie and Mary cultivated beautiful fields of Coastal and Tifton. Hay from these fields provides quality nutrition to our cattle during the winter months. Mary and Eddie's daughter, Connie and her family, Aaron and Skye, moved to the home place in 2013 and soon after created Watermelon Hill as a way of honoring the animals they raise and sharing the Huber family's natural way of life. The ranch consists of open fields of hay and grazing pastures intermixed with hardwood and softwood forest. Hilly landscapes are broken with wet weather creeks and fishing ponds located around the ranch. The town of Bellville is 7 miles, Columbus is 14 miles and Brenham is a short 25 miles away. There are multiple places to dine or enjoy a local brew close as well. Don't forget that Antique Week over in Warrenton is just 25 miles away. However, none of that matters if all you want to do is be quite and enjoy some serenity. The closest highway is two miles away so if quiet is all you want we have that in abundance. Camp sites are primitive with no water or electricity.

Coushatte Recreation Ranch stands out as a unique destination in Bellville, Texas, thanks to its rich history and connection to the land once inhabited by the Coushatte Indians. Established in 1877 by the Nelius Family, the ranch began as a cotton and cattle farming operation, utilizing horses in the fields until 1948. In the 1950s, Trenckmann Nelius diversified the ranch by introducing chicken and egg production, while still raising cattle and growing maize to feed the chickens. In 1973, Trenckmann and Margie Nelius transformed their vision into reality by founding Coushatte Recreation Ranch, initially offering just 24 campsites. Over the years, the campground has expanded significantly to accommodate 225 sites, complete with full hookups for both 30 and 50 amp service. The campground's name pays homage to the Coushatte Indians, and visitors can explore an Indian Mound on the property, where numerous arrowheads have been discovered. After many years of dedicated management, Trenckmann and Margie passed the torch to their son Howard and his wife Pamela, who operated the ranch until November 2019. The campground is now under the ownership of George Jarkesy, who aims to enhance the experience for guests.
