We offer a uniquely secluded setting with stunning views of the Chisos Mountains. Located just 7 miles from the entrance to Big Bend National Park, and 10 miles from the visitors' center at Big Bend Ranch State Park, it is a perfect base from which to explore all the hiking, boating, and scenic beauty that West Texas is known for. The arts, history, and entertainment of Terlingua Ghost Town are less than 2 miles away. Like most ruins in the Ghost Town, my stone house was built in the early 1900s to house a miner’s family from the nearby Rainbow Mine. I bought the property in 1986 and began restoring and rebuilding. In 2019 I retired here from NYC and began exploring possibilities for sustainable tourism. West Texas is one of the best places in the United States to view the Milky Way (both Big Bend parks are certified as International Dark Sky parks). We use shielded LED lighting around buildings and pathways to cut down on light pollution and optimize stargazing opportunities for our astrotourists. And we are applying for dark sky certification from the Texan By Nature program. Bear in mind that this is the desert, in all its rugged glory. There are critters, rocks, plants with thorns, slippery slopes, sink holes, rusted artifacts and broken glass from decades long past. Bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight, and stay on the paths! Our intention is to provide remote, low-density accommodation for folks who are respectful of the land.

Rio Bravo Ranch is a family owned ranch that borders the Rio Grande and Casa Piedra Road.  We have cultured a love for camping and the outdoors on this ranch as children and young adults.  One day we were sitting on "the backside," enjoying the amazing vistas, solitude and a campfire when the idea came to us that we should share this amazing place with others seeking this type of experience.  We tried to think about what makes camping enjoyable to us - no immediately adjacent campers, a nice fire ring/shade structure, a nice, large tent site and vistas with unobstructed views.  We have incorporated this into our campground design which, when completely finished, will encompass several hundred acres of Chihuahuan desert vistas.  We are also fortunate enough to have a large riparian area on the property.  It is in this area, amongst the 40ft tall cottonwood and willows, we often find Gambel's Quail, Scaled Quail, Javelina and numerous bird species including the occasional turkey.  We would love nothing more than to share this wonderful place, where we grew up, with souls seeking solitude, adventure and inspiration.  Our eastern entrance is just a few miles outside the Big Bend Ranch State Park boundary, conveniently located on Casa Piedra road about 1.6 miles north of FM 170.

Great spot in the desert! Site was great for looking at stars! I have never seen them so pronounced before! Really appreciated the amenities (showers and toilets). After being in BBNP days and using their facilities, it was nice to get a flushing toilet. Campsite 6 sits a little higher than the others (from what I can see) and offers a nice view of the surrounding area along with the adjacent little canyon. I will definitely booked this place again!

We loved our RV spot! We had a beautiful view of the mountains! Fun social space where we enjoyed dancing in the kitchen then sat by the fire pit listening to music and reflecting on the days hikes in Big Bend NP! Bathrooms and showers were clean and perfect! Great location to Great Bend National Park! Loved how close to the Ghost Town we were but yet felt like we were off grid! Definitely recommend this unique place to stay!

4 nights at Rio Bravo Ranch

My family of 5 plus a dog rolled in to our campsite early afternoon and had no trouble finding it with Lauren's helpful instructions. The site is surrounded on 3 sides by a steep drop into arroyos - worth noting if you have kids. The older kids (6 and 8) loved scrambling up and down and all around but it was too steep for the littlest one. The tent site was level and relatively free of big rocks, the ground is hard scrabble so you will probably want your tent pegs that screw in or maybe your mallet. The views were beautiful and we enjoyed wandering around on the property every night after dinner. The potty is far enough away that you will probably want to drive if you have little kids who can't hold it for a 10 minute walk, but we enjoyed being far enough away that we felt truly in the middle of nowhere. The other campsites aren't far, but they are far enough that you don't need to interact with your neighbors. Our pup enjoyed running around the place as much as the kids.

3 nights at The Bus Stop Campground

My family has been to alot of camp sites some good and some we won't talk about but the Bus Stop is onthe top of our list. From the water, power and cook options at each site to the TOP CLASS bathrooms and showers. And WI-FI!!!! I highly recommend this site to whoever needs a place to camp in the Big Bend area.

This hostel is amazing! We will be back. Mike makes you feel at home. Super rad gathering spaces. Hot showers. Full kitchen available for use, plus a grill and blackstone. Close access to Big Bend.

We loved every night spent at the temple!!! It was a super cool place and the best camping for stargazing!! Bathrooms showers and kitchen were always clean and organized and Mike a great host. We loved the atmosphere created by the music during the nights. Thank you, we look forward to come back.

2 nights at Goat Pens, Cigar Springs Ranch

We had a great stay! Jeff kept in contact with us to make sure we had the directions since cell service is spotty. Very quiet spot, perfect to disconnect and enjoy a nice fire! Location is perfect since it’s in between the Big Bend National Park and Big Bend State Park. Additionally it’s not far (maybe 10 mins) from restaurants in Terlingua or the dollar general in case you forgot to pack any essentials, but still just out far enough to enjoy the quiet! Would highly recommend for a dispersed site, with a nice bonus of amenities like bathrooms and showers! We will be going back for sure!
