1 night at Lake Cisco Campground

We had the best time at this campground. We arrived before dark- wise choice. Phillip greeted us and showed us our site. What a unique experience camping next to a zoo abandoned in the 30's just 100' away with a trail to Cisco Lake. The limestone outbuildings are impressive. There are trees but we had no problem navigating our 35' TT. This is an authentic experience with an old Texas hill country feel. We wish we had more time to stay and explore the area.

What a nice setting in the woods with walking trails through the old zoo caves, the large pool, and the old park. Pleasantly surprised. Plenty of room for two travel trailers 35’ long. Always a pleasure to come upon a unique out of the way Hipcamp. Many thanks to Johnie and all.

We had a great time here. The camp spot was great, level, spacious, bathroom, shower and firewood. Great views of the lake and everyone was very nice. We are going to come back here!

We loved the quiet secluded area. We were the only ones there last weekend and it was like having our own little oasis. Very close walk to the lake and the zoo both. The hiking and trails leave straight from the campground. We will go back. Very friendly staff and very easy to work with.

Perfect place for privacy and adventure. Cisco lake is within walking distance of your site. There are only two rv sites. How great is that? Johnnie is a wonder host with a lot of knowledge about this area. There is 30-50 amp with water and sewage. You will need a longer hose for the sewage. The old zoo and trails are really fun taking you back in history. When we arrived, Philip another host was there to greet us and show us around if needed. This area is very secluded and woodsy. We love it so much. We are definitely going to try a once a year trip here. I’m not sure what the guy who wrote the review was talking about when he was saying something about buying meth. There was nothing of that nonsense anywhere. We highly suggest if you like privacy and adventure and a nice family town book this place now. They will have a spot for you. Thank you for taking the time to read our review.

I was surprised by how remote this location felt but it was perfect for a one night stop over while driving across Texas. I was the only camper at the time so it was very peaceful. The location was beautiful as the sun set and fun to explore the next morning.

2 nights at JH Ranch-Haggard Lake

Our family recently had the pleasure of staying at John's cabin, and it was the perfect get away for us. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the peaceful sound of nature and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The cabin itself was clean, well-equipped, and well furnished, providing all the comforts of home while still maintaining that rustic charm. We hiked around the property, fished in the lake, and sat around the fire pit at night. John has beautiful land that feels far away from hustle and bustle of our day to day lives. We would highly recommend this stay for anyone looking to get away.

This place was a great place to gather with our adult children. The cabin is rustic but comfortable with some great amenities and a beautiful view of the pond and ranch land. John is an exceptional host...very accessible and helpful! We loved the jeep ride and his horses, cows and dogs! We are already planning a return trip! Thank you John for a fun weekend!

Weekend Trip to Lake Cisco Campground

We tent camped at Johnnie's campground and had a great time! Very cool historic area with lots of trails in walking distance. Host was very welcoming and helpful, he even gave us some firewood he had. We went due to the proximity to the abandoned zoo trails in Cisco, and found that a very popular disc golf course (#3 in Texas and Top 100 in the world) was about an hour and a half away. Definitely worth the trip from Dallas and would camp here again.

Weekend Trip to Little Off Lake House

We had an awesome time!!...it is so relaxing, quiet, comfy, and so so beautiful! And then there's outside!!..😍... plenty of peace and quiet!...the lake is so beautiful, especially at sunset!...u can see it all in one beautiful spot, they have wild turkeys, deer, cows and a very handsome longhorn!!..we will definitely be returning!!..The hosts were so welcoming and kind!...This was a much needed getaway for us and we enjoyed every second!!!

Not too far off freeway but far enough to enjoy tge quiet and the stars. Phil was very nice and helped me find amenities. Very interesting place to stay; enjoyed nature walk in old zoo area and more. Would be happy to stay again if passing your way! Front gate was plenty wide to get through with my big RV but wider is always better ;) Thank you!

As the park began to take shape, the Williams' realized what a hidden gem it really is. The natural spring that feeds Joshua's pond was named after Sam's mother, Inez. The area around Eastland is rich with local history, including Captain Eastland and the black bean, Old Rip the horned toad, The Santa Clause bank robbery, Ringling Brothers' Circus, Bonnie & Clyde, etc. In addition the area is known to have had a significant prehistoric Native American population. In fact, Sam and Dee are curators of an impressive collection of artifacts found throughout the area. The park boasts 15 camp sites and a large number of picnic spots along the riverfront and near Joshua's Pond, for day use. The Williams Family carved out a trail system that takes hikers along the rim of rock outcrops, between the gaps of huge rock slabs, along the banks of the Leon River and through a heavy shaded canopy of red oak, pecan and cedar elm. There's even a small cave for the adventurous spelunker. Kayaking is popular on the river and kayaks can be rented on the property. Admission provides a full day of fishing, hiking, swimming, boating, picnicking, bicycling, etc. Guests can even stay overnight on primitive campsites, for an additional fee.

Enjoy a country getaway on private 8 acre lake on 45 acres. A perfect escape from the city with gorgeous sunset views, Texas wildlife and a relaxing comfortable lake house with many amenities. Lake is full of Blue gill, bass, crappie, catfish. Since it's private lake there is no need for fishing license. Guest are welcome to explore most of acreage, pet donkeys, watch wildlife. We have fishing poles, Jon boats, motorized barge available for rent. If needed guests can pitch tents. There is fire pit, gas grill, diving board (when lake is full, as of May water is to low to dive). No food is provided you must bring your own, don't forget your coffee, there is a coffee pot but not coffee. Site is 10 minutes from Stephenville, 3 miles from County Store in Huckabay. Linens, towels provided. Board games, Wii, ping-pong table, outdoor games, trampoline on site. Land owners located across lake and may be on lake or available as needed. GPS should get you here. You will go past Little Off Ranch house, follow road to lake house. Keys will be left out on porch on arrival day. No Wi-Fi or television service at this time. TV is available to use for Wii or DVD/VHS. Large collection of movies available. Pets are welcome as long as they don’t damage home, chase cows, kill chickens or are dangerous to others. There is an extra fee for pets. If children are in, on or near water they should have life jackets on. There are various life jackets and floats available. Use best judgment, safety measures and laws required in TX. NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ACCIDENTS.
