Weekend Trip to McDonald Farm

We had the best time at McDonald’s Farm! From splashing in the river to hanging out fireside this is the spot! Our kids loved seeing the pigs, chickens, and horse, as well as exploring the property. The hosts were amazing! They had a great spot for making coffee set up for us and always were quick to answer questions and assist our group. Thanks for a great weekend!

Tent camping made easy! Lovely spaces to choose from. Literally a farm! Horse, chickens, pigs!! Outdoor bathroom & shower available. Beautiful areas by the river, just a small hike. Definitely will come back to stay by the river! Extremely informative and friendly host. So worth the drive. Lovely drive to Georgetown if you forget anything. Thank you for the peaceful and serene experience, we loved it.

My pups and I couldn’t have been happier with our stay! The experience exceeded my expectations. We loved how much thought and consideration the hosts put into everything. The description was accurate and informative and the host was friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the private river access. It was peaceful and rejuvenating; we will definitely stay here again! My dogs didn’t want to leave. We saw a few snakes, carp, raccoon and deer by the river but bugs were not an issue. Cell service (T-Mobile) was a little spotty at the river, not bad though. The outdoor shower was nice to be able to clean up after playing in the river with my dogs. Definitely check out the little farm stand while you’re there! There were fresh eggs and jellies for sale when we were there.

Had a great weekend! Hot showers, clean porta potty, and plenty of firewood for us to use! Owner was super helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed the fresh eggs they sold that we cooked for breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

Weekend Trip to Happy Horse Camp & RV Getaway

What went well? EVERYTHING was better than described or expected. My wife and I were met by Bo (sorry if not the spelling). Smiling from ear to ear and just an overall wonderful person. He helped us take our things to our cabin and described different things that we could do. Everything from a scavenger hunt to harmonica lessons. Beautiful property nestled away from traffic or prying eyes. The cabins are spaced well far apart so you do not feel like others are in your business. I could not believe how well stocked the cabin was. Plenty of blankets, heaters, ceiling fans, air conditioning, cookware, microwave - this was literally the easiest camping experience I've ever had and I'm 55 lol. They also have a fire pit area for each individual cabin to make the experience even nicer. We spent 2 evenings and just had a blast. There are plenty of places to get wonderful food, beverages or any other thing you and your family might need. This is a must stop for camping on a wonderful level. Each cabin also had its own 5 star outhouse and 5 star is the truth! Absolutely cleaner than public restrooms with every necessity. I highly recommend this camping spot!

Weekend Trip to Longhorn Getaway Campgrounds

Camp ground was very convenient for our family of 5. Kids range from 7-5 and they had a blast. The loved the swing tree, donkey, longhorns, and building a camp fire. The shower water was hot and the restroom was primitive, but clean and taken care of. Since this was our first time tent camping as a family I didn’t want to go far from home… we live in Drip and didn’t realize this place existed. We will absolutely be back in the future! Thank you!!

Weekend Trip to McDonald Farm

This is my second time hosting a retreat at the McDonald farm, I’ve never felt more comfortable with a host. Samantha goes above and beyond to make sure your experience is amazing. This weekend it was raining when we arrived and Samantha shuttled some of the guest over to us so their cars wouldn’t get stuck and helped them with their luggage. The other host upon arrival was extremely helpful as well and eased any concern I had with the weather before I even had to ask. I’m so grateful for their kindness and Samantha’s quick and easy communication. The land is so beautiful and literally my favorite spot out of Georgetown and other surrounding areas. I will never not go back to the McDonald farm, I can’t wait til next time !

Weekend Trip to Twisted Oaks...

No frills car camping, highly recommended! John’s land is beautiful and has many sites to choose from with flat places for tents, fire ring, tables and chairs. John is friendly and so are his dogs. He’s done a lot of DIY projects like an outdoor shower, bucket flush toilet, disc golf holes (bring your own discs) and has a few campers, a dump truck and other equipment on site that might not feel like pure nature but it didn’t bother me. If you want a true “pristine natural area” look elsewhere but for weekend car campers it’s a great place. Firewood available on site. 15 mins from downtown.

Weekend Trip to Ranch 3232

Very well maintained and friendly atmosphere. The communal area came in clutch. Coffee in the morning gives you a brief chance to be social with other campers. The primitive sites are very secluded with the cedar trees surrounding them. Site H is by far the best. Your back is to to a fence and there is a trail connecting to the next site over for a bigger group. Road to the sites is a little rough but it adds to the experience. Overall it’s a great place and definitely worth a return visit.

Weekend Trip to Dot's Spots

We had a great experience at Dot’s Spots! Host was so accommodating for our late night arrival and adjusted our booking to a site that wasn’t as impacted by mud after some rainy weather came through. The location was also terrific as it was close to Pedernales Falls State Park and Wimberly, both which we easily explored in a day. It was the perfect first camping trip with our 18 month old! 10/10 would recommend!

We are now offering daytime river access to the San Gabriel River! This is a secluded, hike to spot for fishing, swimming, grilling, picnicing, and hanging out during the day. Access to our river site is included in your camping fee, or we offer day passes for non-campers! There is no overnight camping on the San Gabriel River. All camping is at the main farm area and campers are able to come and go from the river site as they please. McDonald Farm sits in the historic farming community of Jonah, TX between Georgetown and Taylor on scenic Highway 29. McDonald Farm is named after the patriarch of the family, J.H. Mcdonald, who first acquired the property in 1911. The farm sits on the bank of the San Gabriel River and features a lush canopy of huge pecan trees, sprawling corn fields, prairie, and forest. We are a working farm! We primarily grow corn, but we also have livestock on the property. During daytime hours, you will likely see a variety of farm chores being completed. We are only 7 miles from the Georgetown, TX historical district and square. Some say it’s the most beautiful town square in all of Texas. Enjoy shopping, dining, and festivals! We are 13 miles from Granger Lake, which offers boating and bass fishing opportunities. Highway 29 and the many quaint and scenic country roads that intersect it is popular with cyclists wanting to go for longer rides and enjoy the sights of central Texas and the many historical farms in the area. There is excellent bird-watching and wildlife-viewing opportunities on the property. We frequently see white-tailed deer, as well as other wildlife and many species of birds. There is road noise. Highway 29 can be busy at times, despite being a two-lane road. We also have neighbors, so we request quiet hours after 10 pm Sunday - Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday. This is my home (35 years) I do not need any help redecorating or rearranging. Treat it as you would want your home treated by a guest. No tobacco if you choose to smoke do it in your vehicle. I work from my home, My workspace is separated from campsites and is off limits for your own safety. Campfires are tied to weather, strong wind low humidity and dry conditions will be considered when allowing permitted fires.... cook stoves are ok. There is a honey bee themed gift shop on site that is regularly open Thu-Sat 10-6 that offers tastings and tours. There is a restroom and small sink area connected to store that is open 24 hrs. There are 2 LONG RV spots up to 45 feet in length BUT, they are back in only and the turn around area is tight if you have a BIG RIG. The 2 camper van sites are (Site 1) 32' and (Site 2) 22'. Aredondo Acres

Aredondo Acres has wonderful views of the river because on other side of the river lies is a wooded area between Little and Big Webberville Parks and a nice green hill. Bring your canoe or kayak and relax while paddling in the river. We are four miles off of Hwy 71 in the little community of Garfield, TX between the Austin airport and the town of Bastrop. We live on onsite on the first acre, next to the road. The third acre is where you will be camping. Enjoy running water in the center area. For more personal needs, an RV with a flushing toilet is located closer to the river. Other extras include some picnic tables and chairs, fire pit, BBQ grill, trash can, cooling tub, big shady trees, and lots flat areas so you can drive to your campsite. Pets are welcome, just be sure to leash them when sharing the site with other campers. David's parents bought the property in the 1970's and it was undeveloped until they deeded it to him in the 1996. It used to be a gravel pit and there are still pockets of gravel on the property. We have been doing a lot of landscaping and enjoy walking to river to fish or just to enjoy a peaceful view of nature. We have recently added a floating dock, so the fishing should be even better. We look forward to sharing it with you. Learn more about this land: Relax in the shade and enjoy beautiful views of the Colorado River, just minutes from Austin and Bastrop. Bring your fishing poles and licenses and try your luck or just relax and watch the kayaks and boats float down the river. Water is available in the center of the area for all campers with a sink and an antique tub. Ground at the campsites is fairly level and there is an area wide enough to turn an RV. There are steps to the edge of the river. Restroom is in an RV so you have running water available, but you will need to climb a few steps. You may get WiFi but it is not a given. Only two sites are rented for an acre of river-front land. Our home is on the first acre of three acres. If you need any "extras" just let us know and we will be glad to help. We are diligent about removing harmful weeds from the area but if you see any plant with three leaves, please let it be. For the 4th or July and New Year's Eve, fireworks are legal in this area so you are welcome to bring your own, or enjoy the neighbor's displays. We are close to Circuit of Americas and McKinney Rough Park with the zip line. We are a short drive to the Capital of Texas Zoo and the Dinosaur Park as well as LCRA South and North Parks in Bastrop, and the Bastrop State Park. Enjoy a day seeing the sites and then come home to your campsite and enjoy the stars.
