Weekend Trip to Burgers Lake Camping

I wasn't sure what to expect but was really happy. We got to the waterpark/campground around 5pm on a friday so the place wasn't too packed and they didn't charge us to use the pool that day. The staff, esspecially Sherwood who has big plans for the poace, were all super friendly, helpful and told us to pretty much camp anywhere that you could park. We had the whole place to ourselves that night and my boys and friends got to run around playing tag in the dark which they loved. The next morning we were able to pick out the best spots on the lake for the day and had a blast. Just know that apparently during the off season they let you make a campfire but during the pool season they don't. We were there the first week of season and they made an exception so if campfires are important, you might want to double check with them before hand. Other than that, I'd absolutely recomend camping here.

We had a wonderful time getting back to nature! Fishing, hiking, kayaking, and swimming! We saw lots of wildlife and enjoyed the fresh air and all that God has to offer! The bathrooms were conveniently located and superbly clean! Even on a busy holiday weekend it didn't feel overcrowded! Definitely a must try for family campouts!

We planned the trip expecting a thunderstorm for the whole 3 days, the first night it stormed everyone else left besides us. We had the whole place to ourselves and it didn’t even rain the other 2 days. It was so relaxing!! We even rented one of the paddle boats and enjoyed some fishing on the river!! Will definitely be back!

This place was amazing! Melissa met us as we pulled in. My two little ones immediately adored her. She was so nice and welcoming. I was honestly blown away with how secluded and “in the woods out in the middle of nowhere” it felt. The boys (6 and 3) and I haven’t done a real camping trip yet and I wanted to do kind of a trial run first. It honestly couldn’t have went better. They said it felt like we went through a portal! We had plenty of fire wood to roast marshmallows and hot dogs and the boys loved the teepee! Thank you again Melissa for such an amazing experience!

This was a wonderful spot to camp! We stayed at the Foxhollow site, and it was perfectly shaded with lots of flat ground for tents. The river access with the little beach was perfectly shaded for a relaxing day in the water. A truly great getaway!

Gipsy Moon was a great place for tent camping! The folks there are friendly and helpful, and the sites are lovely and clean. Generally, the campground was quiet and peaceful. We had two five-year-olds with us and they loved swimming in the river and petting all of the goats! We’d recommend, for sure.

Weekend Trip to Burgers Lake Camping

I was there the day before they officially opened and there was only a high school graduating class there. Got to spend the afternoon enjoying this beautiful, spring fed lake, complete with slides, fountains, diving boards (of all heights), and snack bar (they make an awesome cheeseburger!). Once they cleared out, I had the place to myself. Owners were very accommodating. Even though they don’t really offer space with power, they found me a plug to charge my Jackery. They also offered tips on what not to miss at the Stockyards. The camping area is grassy, level and very shady with tons of large pecan trees that were planted by original owners. The facility was very clean, hosts were friendly and it is truly a magical place to stay! It’s only about 15 minutes from the Stockyards, so very convenient if you’re planning to visit there. I was just passing through, but would definitely love to come back sometime! I am a single female, traveling alone and felt extremely safe. Don’t forget to hit the artisan well to fill up your water jugs on the way out!

This property is eclectic! They have plenty of sites to camp- all named accordingly, we stayed in Fox Hollow. It was such a cozy little site! There are restrooms and showers in the common area complete with goats and ducks! They have a water source and youre able to collect as needed. Amy has fire wood available and fruits and veggies! Don't forget the camp kitten!! I feel like people are permanent residents here-a tiny home community and you may need all wheel drive if it rains. We would go back for sure, I want to venture out again and stay at the site by the river. Everyone kept to themselves and it was so peaceful and quiet--nature sounds, goats and ducks...it was great!

Absolutely do it. Don't think twice. Private and secluded in a beautiful wildflower meadow. Top notch Saturday morning breakfast. Friendly animals everywhere. Our cabin came with a Fatcat who took an afternoon nap with us. So so beautiful.

This place is really family friendly—particularly for those that want to go camping but don’t want to do their business outside and want to shower. The animals are the best part imo. We got to pet the goats and even had some of the kids (goat babies) lay in our laps. The site is very clean and the local community is very friendly.

1 night at DeerCreek Campground

This is my second visit to John's campsite. I simply love the peacefulness of this site - lots of shade and a beautiful, calming waterfall. I love sleeping with that sound! The bathhouse is well-maintained! Clean, functional, and nature-friendly. I would camp here again and again!

I initially booked deck #1 but upon arrival I found deck #5 to have the best view of all sites so I reached out to John and asked if we could switch. Since we were the only party to book that day, he let us switch to deck #5. This campsite is truly stunning! The deck was solid and well built. The waterfall was an amazing feature, my kids (19 mos & 5 yrs) loved to play in it. The view from deck #5 is absolutely amazing! Seriously I wondered why this place isn’t fully booked already. Loved the trail that leads to a treehouse. It was easy and short (about 20 mins one way), perfect for family with kids. John was responsive during our entire stay. However, there are a few cons. The sites are quite close together, properly about 15-20ft apart. I imagine if it was fully booked, it’d be a little crowded. Electricity is very limited, it runs off of batteries so runs out quick. Water also doesn’t seem very clean, it has a dark color to it, it’s properly rain water. We used a lot of wet wipes to clean ourselves instead of using the water. Overall, extremely beautiful and clean campsites. It rivals some of the best state park campsites we have been to that’s always fully booked months ahead. We would love to be back with friends! Easy 9 out of 10.

The Brazos Electric Power Plant is located on the lake. The power plant helps to keep the water warmer during the winter months keeping the fishing better in that area where an 83-pound Flathead Catfish was known to be caught. Lake Palo Pinto RV Park is just 14 minutes to Palo Pinto, 25 minutes to Mineral Wells, and about an hour from Fort Worth. It is north of I-20 about 10 miles. Nearby points of interest include Clark Gardens Botanical Park, Holiday Hills Country Club, Mineral Well Fossil Park, The National Vietnam War Museum. Take The Baker Hotel ghost walk tour, where you can learn about the historical significance of the hotel, its ghostly inhabitants, and the history of the City of Mineral Wells. Downtown Mineral Wells is home to more than 20 murals featuring everything from flying pigs to human-sized butterflies and interactive murals to portrayals of local people from days gone past. Downtown Mineral Wells has over 100 historic buildings with boutiques, antique shops, and specialty stores, plus restaurants that offer patio dining and live music. Mineral Wells was named for and is still famous for its mineral waters. The town boomed as a health resort after 1885, when the Crazy Well was dug. The Crazy Water Bath House offers mineral baths and treatments inspired by the waters and nature. Three museums call Mineral Wells their home. Gordon Center for Industrial History preserves, documents, and researches the industrial history of Thurber, Texas, which was once a thriving coal mining company town of 10,000 people and now a ghost town. Thurber was located near the southern Palo Pinto County line. Visitors can see reconstructions of Thurber’s mercantile store, livery stable, the town bandstand, the 655-seat opera house, and the Snake Saloon, which once boasted one of the largest horseshoe-shaped bars in the United States. The Mineral Wells Fossil Park at the old City of Mineral Wells landfill’s borrow pit, which closed in the early 1990s but then revealed fossils documenting ancient sea species such as crinoids, echinoids, and other historic sea life from the Pennsylvania Period over 300 million years ago. Fossil collecting is allowed in designated areas only, and only surface collecting is allowed with small gardening tools at the park. Take a guided tour of Guest Ranch Exotic Game Hunting where you will see their different species of antelope, buffalo, deer, and sheep. The best times to go on this tour are early mornings and late afternoons, and the cost of the tours begin at $35.00. Check out the Palo Pinto Mountain State Park that comprises 4,871 acres of former ranch land about 23 miles west of Palo Pinto Creek Reservoir. When fully developed, this park will offer hiking, camping, fishing, stargazing, and other outdoor activities. Plateaus with beautiful vistas overlook sheltered canyons. Palo Pinto Creek winds through the northern border of the park. A dam on Russell Creek impounds the 90-acre Tucker Lake, the centerpiece of the park. Plans for the park include an extensive network of multi-use trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Trails will lead to remote areas of the park with expansive vistas.

Easy Like a Sunday Morning is nestled just outside the city limits of Granbury, Texas (approximately 3 miles from Granbury Historic square) @ a private residence just outside the city limits. New laundry facility down the road, dump station @ Thorp Springs RV park (20 dollars), Davids Grocery store and Dollar General, all only .03 miles away. This is not really a vacation destination but more a safe place to stay coming to town to explore all Granbury has to offer or a place to catch your breathe while traveling on the road. Friends have enjoyed escaping here for years. I decided to share the zen. It's a bit rough around the edges but if the new venture succeeds it will only get better each time you visit. Patio with a view of Lake Granbury and surrounding valley of at least 3 counties. Communal: Bonfire area when there isn't a burn ban (bring your chair). Also small fire pit on patio. Fuller's Folly River Ranch

Sundancer On The Brazos sits on Comanche Creek in an isolated forest on a 350 acre working cattle ranch with a quarter mile of river frontage! The Comanche were quite active up and down this part of the Brazos when the earliest settlers arrived around 1850, until the Comanches' eventual conquest by the Texas Rangers and their Colt pistols around 1870; we have found lots of flint and some arrowheads on high places here. Going further back in history, the Fuller's Folly River Ranch has an abundance of petrified wood, they say that if you have fossilized sea shells you were under water, but if you have petrified wood you had land creatures. Hunting for petrified wood is a fun adventure here. (But leave them for the next person to discover!) Weatherford is only 10 minutes away and Granbury is only 20 minutes away; both have great restaurants. And this close to Fort Worth (30min), you could actually commute and have a ranch to come home to at night--note the lower pricing mid week.

We have three ground tent sites and two 14 by 14 deck sites if you want to be up off the ground. Each site has a fire ring and electricity. There are well-marked trails across the creek which go to a meadow and a big treehouse I built several years ago. Glen Rose has several restaurants known for barbecue and Mexican food. Granbury is 25 minutes away with lots of shopping and restaurants around their historic town square. Glen Rose also has a town square.
