The property features a variety of thriving wildlife due to our fresh water stream that gently flows through the property year round. The stream is roughly ankle to hip deep depending on the area. The water is crystal clear and safe to play in if you have little ones. Walk along the stream and discover all kinds of fish, turtles, beautiful river stones and possibly see a beaver or 2. The property is split by a 2 lane road. 7 acres to the North and 33 acres to the South. The smaller side is flat with many trails, fresh water stream and a gravel road. It features relatively junior trees and is home to a family of Whitetail Deer. The Southern side of the property features a mature hardwood forest full of giant white oak trees. Be sure to put on your hiking boots though, because there's a few Hills to climb. Three hills that form a beautiful valley in the center, with another fresh waterstream. The valley was once home to a 1700s settlement, so you may find some artifacts. (We just ask that you leave them where you find them.) Main trails are marked clearly with large reflectors for safety. With the near-by wildlife refuge you are sure to see and hear a variety of wildlife.
We have large steel firepits in every campsite. So feel free to bring your own firewood! Enjoy a good book or nap while relaxing in a hammock. Swing with a loved one while over looking the fresh water stream. Walk down along the stream and collect rocks, feed the fish, or go for a dip! Situated just outside of Columbia, TN (one of the state's most up-and-coming cities) and right on the same road as our 11th President, James K. Polk, once lived - Peekaboo Meadows & The Big Red Barn are waiting to welcome you! Pull in, drive down the grass road and over the small creek, put it in park at the barn and go stretch your legs on the 4o+ acres surrounding. During the day, feel welcome to walk the serene meadows or take a cleared trail up the ridge to the treehouse! Don't be surprised to be greeted by all kinds of wildlife including deer, turkey, foxes, or our goofy, fun-loving Golden Doodle named "Shme." If walking isn't your thing, you are welcome to drive around (4wd recommended) to go scout out where you'd like to set up camp for the night. If you prefer more peace and privacy, there are two beautiful meadows to choose from which both reach deeper into the property. If you'd prefer the comfort of additional shelter, you are welcome to park and/or set yourself up at the barn instead (which is a little closer to the main road). There is power to the barn - providing light, 30AMP power for RV hookup, as well as an electrical receptacle that you can run your extension chords from. For the extra adventurous - you may want to take a hike up "Thornbush Trail," which follows the ridge right up the middle of the property and has beautiful views of both meadows to either side. Or, for a more direct route, take a walk right up our dirt access road to the upper ridge, where you can peek through the treeline for beautiful elevated views eastward toward Columbia. Our treehouse (in progress) is located right at the top of the access road. Though the treehouse has not yet been completed, feel free to climb the 20' ladder up the inside of the hollowed out trunk and pop your head out the top! It sure makes a great photo! Come back to the barn area in the evening to lounge in the hammock, hang out around the picnic table, or cook dinner and roast some marshmallows over the wood burning fire pit with cooking grill attachment (fireside tools & 1 bundle of firewood provided). One filtered and cooled 5 gallon portable Igloo water cooler will also be provided and placed on the picnic table outside the barn. One rolling 96 gallon covered trash bin will be placed inside the barn (please bag your trash). "Luggable Loo" portable compost toilet is also available for use inside the barn. Tho cell & wifi are spotty here on the farm, we will provide one walkie talkie during your stay for direct communication with the main residence, should there be any issues or needs that arise. On the flip side, privacy is respected and use of the electronics is completely at your discretion!

Thirteen years ago my best friend and I started a canoe and kayak company to allow people to experience the same things that we experienced as children.
We have met thousands of people and had opportunities to become friends with many of them.

Fabulous location! Chef Robert was very responsive, the spot was really well kept, and it was so nice to have a home cooked meal on our last stop! It was near the main house but felt private. There was a concrete slab, power, picnic table with umbrella and a fire pit with chairs. He had chickens and very friendly goats! We chose the smoked hot chicken and sides from his menu and it was wonderful and worth the extra add on!! The care the hosts give to make you feel welcome is evident. Will definitely be back if we are in the area! Highly recommend.

This spot was super convenient for our event we were attending in Downtown Nashville. Could not be easier to get in and our of. Level spot, next to a stream, fireplace and seating area. We were dry camping, but I think there was power and water. It's close to the road, but we didn't hear any road noise. Couple of bars on both Verizon and ATT.

Perfect space!! Camp spot had everything I needed! It was right next to a creek, had a fire pit, and solar lights…what else do ya need?!?! Elisabeth was so kind and helpful during my stay. I’ll definitely be back!! There were so many things for a girl and her dog to do there❤️❤️❤️

Very nice place to go and chill. Very easy to get to. The goats are sweet as can be. There is a swing, trampoline and rock wall for the kids to play. We chose to have Robert cook our dinner for us and it was beyond what I expected. The ribeye was so good and the presentation was great. He was super nice and extremely responsive. Even though you are in close quarters you still feel like you have your privacy. I would definitely recommend to others.

Loved our stay at Hidden Timbers Homestead/Shady Slip site. Lauren is a terrific host. After being on the road, the showers are an oasis. Got some great tips on the best local resources, including Beck's coffee which is the best. Great place, beautiful area.
