20 years ago James and Patricia purchased land that had been logged multiple time, and built a house to raise a family, and watch the forest regrow. James loves trains and this area had a logging operation in the early 1900's that included railroads, donkey engines and logging camps in the area. In the 1980's several 10 to 20 acre parcels were sold to people who wanted a piece of the country life. James and Patricia now live on one of those parcels and look forward to the next generation enjoying the country life. When James and Patricia bought the property, the previous owner had cut down most of the trees and would mow most of the land. The land was allowed to recover with alder being the first forest which replenished the soil. In a few areas scotch broom (invasive plants) took hold. Not wanting to use toxic chemicals that could leach into the water supply getting rid of scotch broom was a challenge but now there is large meadow with baby Christmas trees growing (marked by the red flags). In many other places douglas fir has planted itself along with new cedar trees. There is beautiful undergrowth that includes thimble berry, Oregon grape, candy stripe and many other wild plants. There is red huckleberry growing in various places and makes a great snack when they are ripe. Speaking of wild, there is a lot wildlife here. Several species of birds live here including family of humming birds. Sometimes you will see grouse, geese, ducks, swallows, red tail hawks, even a glimpse of a bald eagle. There are wild bunnies, gardener snakes, frogs, salamanders. If you go along the trails you might see signs of deer or coyote. There are currently chickens that live near the garage and garden (that's why dogs must be on leash). Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent in a shady meadow next to a small pond. Enjoy the serenity and the coastal mountain breezes flowing through the tree tops. There are hiking trails through forest land. Wake in the morning to birds singing, and fall asleep to the frogs in the pond. Clear nights and you can see a lot of stars. During the right season there are blackberries, red huckleberries and thimble berries. The Banks-Vernonia Linear trail State park and LL Stub Stewart are both near this beautiful little space.

Nice and private site that was easy to find. Host was responsive to messages and the site is conveniently close to town where you can easily find any last minute provisions or a good meal. The site does have a slight slope, but it was fine for tent camping and parking two motorcycles. Would definitely come back!

Our stay at Tracy’s property on Puget Island in the middle of the Columbia river was divine. We were concluding our weeklong trek through the state and last night was rounded out our stays in wine country, high dessert and the coastal towns dotting the Western Coast. We parked our Sprinter next to the fire pit steps from the beach, watched the tugs, ferry and barges go by, uncorked a local Pinot and toasted to a memorable visit to Oregon. This is a beautiful spot on the. Columbia River. I stayed twice (at the start and end of a road trip) and both times were so relaxing. I parked my camper van near the water and spent quiet mornings sipping coffee watching the boats go by. I plan to come back so I can spend some time exploring the island and do a little kayaking.

It was a very beautiful walk in site with great options for tent set up. Highly recommend keeping the fly off the tent for some incredible star gazing 😍😍

I stayed at this Hipcamp twice in one week to break up a long drive to the Oregon coast, and it was the perfect stop both times. The site is right along the Columbia River — incredibly quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. Waking up in my van to the view of the water and sound of birds was just what I needed. The host’s house is on the property but set back enough that the site still feels private. I’d absolutely stay again.

So I was planning on car camping which isn’t really a viable option at this site. But other than that it was perfect for 2 humans and 2 dogs. I came prepared for the mosquitoes but I walked away with 2 bites and the other human with none so it wasn’t as bad as others make it seem. The toilet situation is pretty weird though. It’s just tarps hung on strings with the composting toilet inside. I held it the entire weekend to avoid that. But we had a good relaxing time. Definitely away from civilization. Vernonia is the closest area and it was like 20 mins away.

There are five campsites on a spacious property tucked between greenspace to the west and south, with a few homes to the east. While the two sites closest to the homes may not offer the same sense of solitude as the others, the overall setting is serene. The port-a-potty (2 total on the property) was clean and well-maintained. My pup and I were the only campers during our stay, giving us the freedom to explore the hilly landscape and enjoy visits from curious deer. Mowed paths guided us around the property lined with bushes covered with yummy blackberries. We met one of the neighbors, who was incredibly nice. Bill provided firewood, poker, and water for the firepit, which was a thoughtful touch. It was a very enjoyable and peaceful stay! Thanks, Bill!

Personally, I prefer the bank overlooking the stream. Cool your feet on a hot summer day in Rock Creek (the main attraction). If your looking to jaunt from camp a little further, we are located a little over an hour and a beautiful drive to the Pacific Coast and about an hour from Portland. Although in the middle of the country woods, we are surprisingly only two and a half miles from the adorable and quaint town of Carlton. So beside the views, you’ll be alongside some fantastic eateries and outstanding winemakers.  Being raised in the community, and over ten years of experience in the local food and wine industry, I can give recommendations aplenty.   ꕥ  The property has been in our family since the late 60’s and has recently been transferred in ownership to the next generation! It’s been a large adjustment with many precious memories in tow. In hopes to carry on the legacy we opened up camp mid-summer 2021, and it’s a work in progress (as work normally is!), but has been a beautiful experience being in a position to share. There are two family homes on the property with people who truly admire this land! With the work of these past couple seasons, and thanks to our fellow campers, we have been able to lay more gravel, get a more fluid bathroom situation established, and lay out a few more sites! There is an active farm and wedding venue across the river. You may hear distant noise of their operations or events, depending on the season. Please be careful when using Google maps, for whatever reason it has taken several people to other places other than mine. I posted a picture of the entrance of my property, hopefully this will help. Hurlys Hideaway is a very nice location located approximately 2 miles from the town of Tillamook. Very close to the beach Sand Lake various Rivers for fishing kayaking swimming Etc. Approximately 4 MI from Netarts Oceanside area, Netarts Bay, Cape Mears. A very nice location to be able to access all of these activities in Tillamook County. My land is Timber, some clearings, we'll see how this goes I'm just getting started. Also, I just learned that the transient tax for Tillamook Oregon is an additional 10% and I hate to do this but I'm going to have to raise my prices $5. If you are coming from Town, I'm 2 mi. from the hospital west on hwy. 131. Look for the purple Minnesota Vikings bus shack. I also put up a hipcamp sign just up my driveway a bit. If you are coming from the south on Fraiser road, turn right when you come to hwy. 131. I'm less than a quarter mile on your left. Also a heads up lately I've had a few people that are having a hard time booking and I learned from another camper if you're staying one night you actually have to select two days it includes the day you check out I just experienced that with another camper so just a bit information I don't know if hip camp changed something or what, but if you're staying one night select two days and it'll work.
