My family had a great time here! The playground could use some updating and I wish the grounds were a bit more level for chairs by the fire but all in all, great place to stay.

Weekend Trip to Trothwood Forest

Whispering pines was a great site!! Jim and his wife are very nice people. The site it's self was very quiet, with multiple trees to choose from to hang a hammock from. There is also plenty of room for a tent as well.

2 nights at Baileys Basecamp

The Ridge Camp A site was beautiful to spend a couple of days in. The person who helps shuttle people’s gear up to it, Keith, was so nice and helpful! The platform for our tent was much appreciated, as we arrived after a day-long rain. We also appreciated being able to pre-order a dozen eggs and have firewood up top to purchase when we needed it. We came to this area to go hiking and wow, did we get some steep hiking in just going down to the bathroom! It was worth it to stay up in the ridge but just be prepared! And speaking of bathrooms, there were two super clean, brand new ones with showers on-site to share with other guests. That was a real plus. Also down by the bathrooms was a little community hangout spot with picnic tables, hammock stands, Adirondack chairs, and a firepit. Another bonus. Love this place, would definitely stay again.

Weekend Trip to Backwoods Camping

Incredible spot! Thank you Bill! We camped on a rainy weekend and I’m so glad we picked this hipcamp. We appreciated the out house and lean to. There’s some nice trails to walk on his property. Shockingly we didn’t pick up any ticks so that was really nice. We heard owls and cows in the morning. Despite the wet conditions we stayed dry and had a wonderful time!

Weekend Trip to Pop's Place Camping

The cabin was cute and clean and in good condition. The beds were comfy. Had paper plates and plastic utensils and paper towels already in the cabin. It was very private because it was raining so there wasn’t anybody outside or anything. More affordable than a lot of other cabins. There was a massive spider under one of the extra pillows. And there was a cute cat that showed up on our last night just wanting to hang out with us.

4 nights at WALKAbOUT Creek Campground

What a great camp! Carl is very personable, the grounds are beautiful, it’s very secluded (ie; off the beaten path). The camp has a common area to hang out and cook or bonfire or play games. There is also a full ~on grid~ bathroom with a shower and that’s attached to a small game room with a tv and air hockey (if you absolutely feel the need to stay connected). A really peaceful getaway but only about an hour drive to Marietta to the SW, Granville to the NE & Hocking Hills to the south. My sister and I tent/car camped here for 4 nights and 5 days and really hated to leave. 😊

4 nights at RusticAppalachian Cabin on BeefFarm

The cabin was so rustic and cute, and the privacy was wonderful. We enjoyed the birdsong and frogs calling. We enjoyed being off grid and brought our yeti cooler and a string of battery powered LED lights for evenings. The propane cookstove worked great. We really enjoyed our stay although there were a few things that could be improved. We understand rustic, we do rustic, we love rustic. However rustic does not mean the grass shouldn't be mowed (it was a foot high in spots), or that the cabin shouldn't be clean (mouse droppings everywhere-especially 2nd floor which we didn't use), or that the cabin couldn't be made more comfortable (more than one screened window per floor would allow better airflow). And not sure what's up with the water. We've used cistern stored water before, but this water smelled like poop! If you ran the spigot awhile, the smell would dissipate somewhat. But next time you used it, back to the poop smell. But even so, the pros outweighed the cons, and we would stay again if in the area.

Weekend Trip to Tenderfoot Learning Lab

Excellent campsite near Athens and Lake Hope State Park. It was great chatting with Travis and learning about what they did at Tenderfoot. There are two sites on the property and we stayed at the larger one, called Deciduous Downtime. It was a short downhill walk from the parking area to the site. The site itself is surrounded by the woods and very peaceful. You don’t really see the house at all from there. One thing to point out though is the ground is not completely level across the site. We didn’t find it to be a deal breaker though. We had enough room for two tents and a big shelter that we could put over the picnic table. Note there is just one tent pad. The outhouse is clean and well kept and there’s lots of trails on the property to explore. We'd highly recommend staying here!

We really enjoyed staying here! Ed and Michelle were great hosts. They were very warm and helpful. The cabin (Moose Cabin) was really clean and the mattresses were comfortable. It was nice that bedding was provided. Our kids had a blast there and Ed and Michelle were so kind to them. The port-a-potty was very clean and the outdoor shower was also really nice. It's obvious that Ed and Michelle have worked hard to make this a great place to stay and value their guests.

3 nights at Private Forest Campsite

The most perfect camping experience. Felt secluded and in the middle of a forest, without being completely disconnected. I had cell service the whole time and felt very safe, especially camping alone. Beth was an amazing host and was just a text away. If you’re feeling like camping on your own to escape real life for a little bit, this is where you want to go.

Weekend Trip to Hilltop Resorts and Campgrounds

Nice quiet location. Still a bit off season so not many people around. We fit nicely on the pad with our 31 foot class C and car. Minimal leveling needed in our site. Great location close to Logan, Hocking State Park, and Nelsonville. We visited the Jack Pine glass studio and the Rocky boot outlet. Everyone at campground was friendly and helpful. The facilities were clean which definitely wins points with me!!

Weekend Trip to Trothwood Forest

Really enjoyed tent camping here. The hiking trails around the property were well kept and easy to follow. Found a waterfall I had no idea was nearby. The campsite was easy to find and I enjoyed the walk to it, made it feel very isolated which is what I was hoping for. The host was super nice and offered to get me anything from the gas station in town if I forgot anything. Highly recommend!

Absolutely love this site! This site was super private with hiking around the property, great views, and even a compostable toilet! Beth set up a geocache shortly before our stay and it’s amazing. Bring goodies to trade out on your exploration! Could not hear the sheep dog per previous reviews, but Beth did leave earplugs just in case. Loved the private stream and seclusion of the site from the rest of the world. 10/10, will be coming back!

3 nights at Triple D Retreat

Frank was a great host. With all the rain we ended up stuck and he was gracious and came to our rescue. This, despite us ignoring his advice on where to park the camper due to the immense rain they've been having. This was our second time on his property and both have been excellent, quiet, secluded experiences. We'll be back again for sure.

Blue Dog Bike Camp

Our little campground began as Bailey Wayne Bike Camp. In 2023 we learned that Wayne National Forest wanted to drop "Wayne" from its name, so we decided to rename our campground and campsites in memory of Raleigh and Blue, two wonderful dogs who we wish were still with us. This area was once a booming coal mining town in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The hollow was made up of hundreds of company homes, several mines, and other company buildings. As the mines died, the forest slowly took over. In the 1980s the National Forest began acquiring ownership. Today, we are just a stone's throw from the new Baileys Trail System. My wife and I have been biking for years; we've spent a lot of time camping and biking in OH, KY, WV, and NC. We primarily ride gravel routes on our tandem mountain bike around Athens and Washington Counties in Ohio. Our property is 3 acres, which offers enough room to open up a couple primitive campsites so we can share the peacefulness of the forest.

The Campsite at Dragonfly Lake

The Campsite at Dragonfly is located on a secluded and private 20 acres in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. The campsite is a 1000 ft hike from the parking area. The campsite includes a fire ring and firewood and a nearby chemical toilet. There are various water sport activities like fishing, kayaking, or paddle boating and plenty of hiking trails to explore the great outdoors! This is a nature lovers paradise... enjoy watching ducks, geese, blue heron, egrets, hawks, varieties of turtles, largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, deer and many more animals. Please note that this hike is up and down a decent grade, so please plan accordingly and take this in consideration if any one in your party has physical limitations. During your stay you are welcome to enjoy the lake, we have kayaks, pedal boat, jon boat and stand up paddle boards located at the floating dock on the dam. You are welcome to use them all, weather permitting, just please return them to their proper place and in the same condition you found them in. The lake is deep so please make sure to keep any non-swimmers safe with the use of flotation devices. If you plan to fish you are welcome to bring your own fishing gear. The lake is stocked with bluegill, large-mouth bass, and catfish but it is nature so you may find other species that we don’t know about! We also provide firewood so you don't have to worry about packing it!!! Other things you will probably want to pack for your stay include: Sturdy shoes for walking to your camp site and exploring the trails. Please ask to see what is available/restricted during your stay. Flashlights/Headlamps for navigating outside after dark Bug spray Jacket/long pants (it can get chilly in the evenings in the spring and fall) Frequent questions and answers: *Can you drive up and park by the campsite - No, The camp site is a short 1000 ft hike from the parking area *How do you get your things to the camp site - Pack light... there is a hand cart to transport things up and down the hill. *Will there be other people on the property... there are two cabins on the other side of the lake... we have made every effort in layout and design of the property to maximize seclusion and privacy and the vast majority of our guest appreciate and are respectful of it. *Are there shared common areas and things - The lake is private and shared by the guest of the cabins... boats and life jackets are shared and are to be returned to the main dock area at the dam. *Can we swim in the lake - We have made no accommodations for swimming... it is a muddy bottom lake... There are some trails making hiking the property easier. A few locations on the property are available for quite private camping stays or family friendly getaways. When you drive up the driveway stick to the right. The houses on the left are different properties. Park where the driveway first levels off or up near the flagpole. Trails are not meant for vehicles. Dual purpose / adventure motorcycles are ok to drive right up to the sites. No ATV's Solar/fire heated shower near the flagpole. Backwoods Camping

Purchased in 2019, these overgrown acres are now a federally registered Farm with the crop being Trees, and have a 10 year Woodland Stewardship Management Plan with the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources. I will be working hard over the years to bring this back to a healthy stand of mixed hardwoods, full of wildlife habitat, and native vegetation. 2024 saw the start of our EQIP contract which includes killing the non-native invasives, like Tree of Heaven, Autumn Olive, Honeysuckle, and more. 2025 was planting, staking, and tubing of 800 tree seedlings, including Black Walnut, Red Oak, Scarlet Oak, Sugar Maple, Persimmon, and Tulip Poplar. Learn more about this land: Enjoy approximately 10 wooded acres while being the only campers on site. Provided are a 4x8 lean-to, outhouse, fire ring, and a spool table. Hiking trails are cut throughout the woods, so feel free to explore. Just stay within the wire fence lines to avoid crossing onto neighboring private lands. The pond is off limits for liability reasons. This is a Federal and State managed Woodland, so please do no harm to any living tree or plant. Feel free to pick up any dead wood for use in the fire ring. (Cut Firewood also provided for free at campsite.) You do have to hike in and out between parking area and campsite. It's about 500 feet from parking to campsite. Mostly level, with one short incline. 10 minutes from The Wilds. 10 minutes from I-70. 15 minutes from I-77 and Cambridge.

There is no outdoor lighting, so if you plan to arrive after dark, bring a bright flashlight or head lamp as you will not be able to see anything. The cabin is stocked with spices, teas, coffees, hot chocolate, and all you need to cook meals. There is a microwave, toaster oven, crockpot, and propane grill. Please DO NOT flush toilet paper. Put in lined trash bin.

Dogwood Cabin

Dogwood Cabin is an off grid experience. Think glamping. It is set on 25 acres in the rolling hills of Morgan County in southeast OH, close to the village of Chesterhill. Hidden in the woods, back a gravel driveway. No electricity, no running water, no central heat, no WiFi, no cell service. Truly getting out into nature without distractions. Hang your hammock between trees. Build a fire to grill your meals. Relax on the porch swing or by the fire. Hike the property, play in the creek. Dogwood Cabin has a small kitchenette. There is a propane camping stove and some pots, pans, coffee maker, and dishes. We have a grill to place over the fire pit. There are 4 mattresses in the loft. No linens. Bring sleeping bags, etc. No running water. Bring water in jugs for drinking, cleaning up and dousing the fire. Buddy propane heater to take off the chill inside, but not make it cozy. Bring a flashlight or lantern. We have several battery lanterns. On low, the lights should work for 6-8 hours. On high, much less. An outhouse (think wooden porta potty) is not far from the cabin. No cell service or internet. Chesterhill is about 2 miles and has service in numerous places on Main St. We have gone up the hill at the church in Todds - right on Goshen Run, left on St Rt 377, about 2 miles. Firewood is not provided. You can bring your own or scrounge the woods for dead branches and twigs. Please douse the fire before leaving. Rake leaves away from the fire pit. Dry materials could easily start a forest fire. 8 plastic deck chairs are stacked on the porch. Please put them back and secure the cover before you leave. We encourage you to get groceries on your way to the cabin, since it is 30 minutes to a decent grocery store. Chesterhill has Ron's Convenience and Restaurant where you can buy subs, pizza, burgers, fries, and groceries. Triple Nickel Diner in Chesterhill is another neat place to eat. No motorcycles on the driveway. You may enjoy hiking the 25 acres on the property. Nature is awesome, but check yourselves and your pet for ticks. 24 hours before your arrival, you should receive a message with the code to get in at the digital entry door, plus a bit more information that you may enjoy.

Near/Far Cabin and Campground

Immerse yourself in nature alongside a working farm! Our 15 acre property has many features. Enjoy hiking trails, a small 3 season creek, rock walls and large boulders, trickling waterfalls and caves if you're feeling adventurous. (The cave is currently an off trail experience, is only accessible at certain times of the year and requires steep hiking and some climbing large rocks.) An abundance of wildflowers and native flowering trees grow amongst the beautiful rolling hills of forest. In spring the wildflowers paint the landscape, in the summer the fireflies compete with the stars in a sparkling symphony and in the Fall colors fill the trees. You will experience true darkness, bright stars and the simplicity of being out in the country. We are a small homestead raising much of our own food. It's likely you will be greeted by dogs, cats, chickens, sheep, pigs and a cow. The property is adjacent to hunting club land, which means hundreds of acres of undeveloped, wooded and wild. Wildlife is abundant, including coyote, fox, bobcat, turkey, raccoon, hawk, owl, (reportedly) bear and lots of deer. Most are nocturnal, so you may hear them rather than see them, but they are near. Our livestock guardian dog keeps the pasture occupants safe, but that means nighttime barking. We provide noise machines in the cabin for white noise and you are welcome to bring a small fan. We live in a rural neighborhood, so there will be occasional sounds from other dwellings, there is a dog rescue across the street and although infrequent, you might hear ATV's and gun shots from down the road. There are copperheads snakes in the area as well as black widow and brown recluse spiders. You will not likely see them but it is wise to wear boots and stay on the trails. The cabin and campground currently share a composting toilet/outhouse with a space for hanging a shower bag (you must bring your own shower bag). There are 5 gallon jugs of water for filling shower bag, hand washing station and dish washing. There is a Berkey water filter in the cabin, but campers will need to bring their own drinking water. Please be aware that you may have minimal cell service during your stay and there is no wifi. The best place to get a good cell signal is the parking lot. The town of Amesville is filled with personality and is just 7 miles away. With a convenience store, park and a wonderful restaurant, Parks Place, which serves American fare cooked with a chefs flare and local ingredients. There is also a community studio that offers yoga and other fitness classes. Amesville hosts Coonskin Saturdays from May to October with music, food, classes and more on the Third Saturday of each month. The city of Athens is 20 miles away, with many restaurants and shops, ample grocery stores, movie theaters etc, as well as the beautiful campus of Ohio University. Strouds Run State Park and several Nature Preserves are within 15 miles of us, Baileys Bike Trail System is 20 miles away, Burr Oak is 25 miles away, and Hocking Hills State Park is 50 miles away. It is a spectacular area with so much to offer in the way of hiking and other nature related activities.

5 Leaf Farm

The property itself was first settled by a man named Mayford Jones, who set the first stones here around 1910.
