Weekend Trip to Off Grid Living

We had the best time at this campsite! It was peaceful, quiet, and the perfect spot to unwind. The host was absolutely wonderful so kind and welcoming. She made us feel like family from the moment we arrived. Everything was clean, well-kept, and just felt cozy. We can’t wait to come back again!

4 nights at Bent Creek Farm

Wow! Doug and Hannah were great. Doug welcomed us to their site with a loaf of banana bread. What a treat! This is the place if you want to be away from other campers. Nice view of meadow fields and old buildings from the original home place. Doug told us the story of the home place and how the land passed down through the generations while we sat by the fire pit. Plenty of firewood there and kindlin to get it started. Hannah came by about supper time with some brownies that were so good. This is the place to get away from it all. Very private and a beautiful location. Several wineries within just a few miles so don’t forget to see the hidden vineyards winery.

Weekend Trip to Marshall Creek Farm

Had a awesome experience camping here! The site was the cheapest around with power and water hookups. You get a large site all to yourself, no one else around. I was able to let my dogs run free and it was nice and quiet. Couple things to mention. We did not have cell phone coverage, which of course is not the owners fault, its in the middle of mountains. Only thing I could say is I wish the parking pad itself was wider. We had to use some logs to hold the steps of our camper up.

We really liked this Hipcamp. It’s remote and private. The gravel driveway is a nice touch (we used levelers on the front wheels) and power/water are a nice touch. The firepit and firewood were perfect. Peaceful sounds from the nearby stream while we slept. Overall excellent!

We were absolutely amazed by the expansive beauty of the property! Evelyn was incredibly kind and accommodating, and it’s clear she has invested a lot of thought into ensuring her guests have a memorable experience. We took advantage of the RV hookup site, which had everything we could possibly need throughout our stay. One of our favorite moments was spotting a charming family of deer one morning! We can’t wait to return and explore the water activities next time. 😊

Great weekend trip from the Triangle to explore Saxapahaw and paddle the Haw River! It’s great to see people with purpose and passion sharing their land with others. Highly recommended!

5 nights at Farm & Zoo Campground

My husband and I loved our visit to Liberty Acres RV Campground and Zoo. Owner Alison was a delightful and helpful. Eight sites with full hookups - water, sewer and electric. We had 30 amp for our 23-foot travel trailer located next to the llamas up the hill from the pond with 4 well spaced sites on a gravel pad with a picnic table surrounded by grass. The site was quiet and peaceful with amazing “Out of Africa” sounds at dawn & dusk. The llamas provided us endless company-fascination on both sides was mutual. Our golden retriever loved his new friends he could watch through the fence. He was very polite. No barking. Our cat watched the llamas and the friendly bluebirds through the window. The pond down the hill, past the other rv sites that were closer together, was lively with capybaras and geese. There was a gravel road leading to the campsite s, which were level. The road allowed us to walk our pup in a loop from our site to the pond and up the road back to our site. The zoo is farther up the road with lots of animals: brown zebras, ponies, kangaroos, monkeys, a sloth, tortoises, peacocks, emus and more. No dogs allowed in zoo. The zoo is only officially open on Saturday and Sunday to the public for $15 person, but Alison let us wander off hours when the gates were open and the zoo team was working. Several great white Pyrenees were keeping watch at the zoo and a 14-year-old grey weimaraner named Zoe was providing zoo tours. Tip: Get the WiFi code no Verizon service

Private, quiet and amazing atmosphere. Hosts were very friendly, helpful and assisted when and if needed. Onsite power (30 or 50 AMP) was great and onsite water, private shower was an amazing touch. Great experience would stay again. Monroe’s from Alaska.

This is the 2nd time we've stayed on Hannah and Doug's property because we love everything about it. We will most definitely stay again if they'll have us. The views are so incredible that our feet are on the ground before the sun even rises because we don' want to miss a minute. Doug and Hannah are so friendly and make the best homemade brownies (I'll keep the secret Doug). If you're looking for a peaceful trip, away from everything, yet, not far away from anything, and you love to have great HipCamp Hosts...this is your spot! Thanks for everything Doug and Hannah!

The Saxapahaw Country Club is a beautiful 31-acre working farm and event space. Located just a few minutes from Saxapahaw Village, it's a convenient and gorgeous place to stay. While we are happy to be a late-night crash spot for after shows at the Haw River Ballroom, we hope you stay a minute to walk the fields, hang in the hammocks, sit by the pond, or take a swing from the branches of our 200 year old White Oak tree. You'll come down our curvy driveway through the trees, and see our event barn on the left. In front of the barn is a communal space for campers to enjoy with a great view. This area has a fire pit, chairs, wood-fired grill, handwashing station, and farm table. The shared outhouse/composting toilet is next to the pine stand with a white roof. Please note, this farm stay is an agritourism activity subject to the limit of liabilities as described in N.C.G.S § 99E‑32(b). We have sheep and pigs and a donkey rotating through pastures behind electric fencing. You are welcome to look but don't touch the fence! We also have 3 very friendly farm cats. Located less than a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this little hayfield is nestled just a skip away from Mabry Mill (the most photographed spot on the parkway), Villa Appalachia (quant Italian style winery), Chateau Morrisette (larger tourist winery), Nancy's Fudge (a little candy factory and shop), and hiking trails of varying lengths with epic views (Black Ridge Trail and Rock Castle Gorge Trail). Each of these is under 5 miles from our camp spot. Yet, if you are also hoping to hop out of your camper and WALK somewhere, there is a hike that leads you directly up to Chateau Morissette. The property itself is a hayfield that typically has a couple of cuttings each summer. There just happens to be a full hook up campsite located at the edge of the property that someone should be enjoying. The property owner (my dad, who is in his mid 70s and doesn't internet so well) lives in a log home that is across the field on the adjacent property. He is probably going to stop by to say hi. He is a pretty friendly guy. Learn more about this land: Set atop a hillside overlooking a hayfield, this camper/motor home spot includes internet, 50 AMP, water & sewer hookups. The location offers a covered pull thru carport style parking space as well as a porch swing and pergola with a picnic table.
