This place is an absolute gem!🏕🧸 Every detail from the handmade tree house to the outdoor shower feels crafted with love and care. The shower itself is stunning, with a beautiful cobblestone bridge leading to it and the peaceful sound of nearby creeks setting the most serene atmosphere. There’s a cozy communal space to sit around the fire that feels so welcoming and homey. Everyone we met was incredibly friendly, and the whole space has such a kind, open-hearted vibe. It’s clear how much intention went into creating this magical little haven. We’ll definitely be back!🤎

3 nights at Mountaintop Fantasy

Peter was a very attentive host, checking in on us and answering questions about how to handle things on the site quickly. This is a relatively simple cabin with a moderate sized sleeping area with some mild sitting space, not insulated but heated and generally comfortable. There is then a covered dining and kitchen area with camp type facilities. A microwave but then a couple of propane-fueled cooking options. A picnic table and one swing. On the other side is a water closet which takes a little work to keep going but does have a flushing toilet and a somewhat manageable shower. There are several places to wander outside with swings and other exposed picnic tables, including the treehouse like perch on the other side of the property. The views are not spectacular but are quite nice. It is not too far from some nice day trips in the Franklin to Highlands area. My daughter and I found it a nice spot to get away in the mountains for a few days. It's not cheap but reasonably priced given the apparent comparatives with maybe more glam in the cabin but less of a view and feeling of getting away. We were happy to travel to Peter's spot.

Im usually more of a primitive camper, but at the end of a long trip, it was really nice to have some shelter. And what a view! Easy to manage dogs here with the door and gate. Highly recommend as a great place to just relax!

It was beautiful scenery, dog friendly and quiet. Great place to relax and leave stress behind for a few days.

Beautiful campsite with 24 hour kitchen and ability to have a campfire! Definitely saving this campsite for future trips! Maria was very hospitable. Cute dogs, cats and chickens!

My niece and her kids and I had a great night in the treehouse. It was definitely too short a visit but will stay again, just maybe not in the treehouse next time. It’s beautiful out here and I’d recommend it to anyone!

3 nights at Above the Fray Glamping, Black Mtn.

Beautiful view and great idea for solo camping and feel of safety with locked door and fenced off walkways. Considering the road is being repaired because FEMA finds finally arrived- prepare for short delays which cannot be avoided. Also, die to road in- spot pots haven’t been pumped and just don’t look down and hold your breath. But- again- truck can’t possibly get there safely IMO- But- the view and the quiet (I had no fellow campers during my stay- and extended twice just because it’s so healing’ My lab and I weathered some strong winds, but never felt unsafe. Whippoorwills sing you to sleep and wake you early in the morning. Sky shows lots of things I can’t see at home due to light pollution. Just a perfect place to get away from all the things that are negative and worrisome. This place is healing. In the middle of all the hurricane related destruction, there is still good and peace if we look for it. I found it on Black Mountain.

This is glamping at its best! The treehouse was sparkling clean and had everything we needed. So comfortable! Any questions I had were answered almost immediately.

Our family loved everything about Bills Cabin! The primitive adventure of the open air but the comfort of their camp mattresses was the perfect mix. The kids enjoyed heating up by the wood stove and cooking over the open fire. Gathering our drinking water from the creek was also a very cool experience. In the morning before check out we were able to explore some of the trails and my husband and I both attempted the cold plunge. We’ve already talked about coming back and can’t wait to check out the tree house for the views.

We loved staying at the Quack shack, and had lots of fun learning about the pottery studio and natural building that Nick does :) would love to stay again!

Weekend Trip to Cold Spring Basecamp

This cabin is exactly what I was looking for! It was just myself and my two dogs but I couldn't have been happier with the space. An open air cabin that provides enough shelter from a slightly cold night, Bill's cabin had everything I needed including plenty of sleeping space, a large fire pit, a propane-powered stove cast iron skillets, and even a french press. The location was easy to find and it was clear the hosts put plenty of thought into their guest's experience. Solar powered lights helped keep things clear, clean plates and dishes were welcome, and $5 per bundle fire wood kept us warm all night! I would absolutely come back here by myself or with my family or friends!

This structure is so well-designed and the hot tea/coffee available and wood fired hot tub made it extra special! We propped open the siding and my son read a book while I cooked our dinner in the chiminea on the deck - so lovely.

Very comfortable relaxing weekend. It was on the colder side and having a stove to reheat coffee and warm some my food was very useful. The new mattress was very comfortable. Thank you so much. I’ll be back again.

My daughters and I had a wonderful two-night stay at Bill’s Cabin. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. The camp host was incredibly friendly and helpful, making us feel so welcome. It was cold (and even snowed!), and while the cabin wasn’t exactly warm, the stove helped, and we made it work. We loved cooking over the fire pit, using the well-stocked kitchen, and unwinding under the solar lights. The rustic charm and peaceful surroundings made it a magical getaway. We’ll definitely be back—next time for the treehouse stay! Highly recommend!

1 night at The Quack Shack

We had a great time at the Quack Shack!! Nick was super nice and met us at his pottery studio to show us around and then we had the place to ourselves all night. He was kind enough to leave us with scrap wood to make a fire in the chimnea!!! Everything was clean and the A-frame was super cozy. Absolutely wonderful glamping experience complete with two heaters to keep us warm all night, nearby bathrooms, and a stocked coffee/tea bar. We would absolutely come back and recommend this place to friends!

Weekend Trip to Mountaintop Fantasy

We wanted to camp in the mountains but have some shelter for possible cold temps. This was the perfect spot for that. The provided heaters worked well enough to keep the chill away and there were more than enough amenities for us. Bonus was the view from multiple locations on the property and close proximity to hiking trails. Peter was very communicative and helpful.

Three rustic and historic cabins recently rehabbed, but keeping all the old charm. One open wall lets in lots of light and the old wood accents the walls, kitchen, eating area, and bunk beds (with queen on the bottom and twin up top). Cook over the stone fire pit or on cast iron pots and pan on the propane stove. Full equipped kitchen for all your needs, including French press, and tea pot. Relax under the solar lights and charge your devices using our solar powered charging station. Campsites are all nestled in the woods and next to the creek and are all spacious and private. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring with grill for cooking over the fire. Additionally a water filter is provided for purifying drinking water from the creek. Launch your adventure from Cold Spring or stay on the property to enjoy the mountain bike trails, hike to the waterfall and cliffs or relax in the meadow. Minutes to the world class trails of Ride Rock Creek Bike Park and beautiful Lake Summit, just down the road from Ride Kanuga Bike Park and the world famous Green River, with class I-V rapids. We are at the back door of 86 miles of trails and dozens of famous waterfalls in Dupont State Forest. The views are hypnotic and look down and out over the continental divide. Good morning sun and sunsets can be seen in the same spot. Your car is parked within feet of your deck so Car Campers and experienced campers can enjoy. Designed with campers and dogs in mind. The deck is large (384 square feet) with a tin roof. Some roofs are full size, some 2/3rds and some 1/3rd, depending on what one wants for tent size or sun exposure. (See pictures of each site/deck) Each deck has sun and rain curtains for helping keep comfortable in normal weather. Dogs enjoy a two gate system so quests and dogs can be leash free and away from the road. All dog owners know to pick up after their pets. The human Private Porta John is cleaned weekly. Lights and electrical is 110V (3 prongs) for YOUR coffee pots, electric grills, mattress inflators, crockpots, electric blankets fans, etc. I do not provide any electrical appliances, other than counter area lighting and low level string lights so one can see the night sky. Many of my campers will "Pay it Forward" and leave coffee pots, hot plates, fans and such, so count yourself lucky to find a deck with them. I provide chairs, 5 gallons of fresh water in containers, fickle solar shower and pop up changing room along with an assortment of camping supplies from dog bowls to antimicrobial wipes. I provide various size garbage bags to manage your garbage. Your parking area is next to the deck. Black Mountain’s tasty restaurants are 4 miles away and All Trails is a great app for finding trails suited for your interest. Be respectful to the place and please be friendly to the people you meet. Learn more about this land: Private Glamping Decks with a view that pictures do not do justice. Private decks on a dead-end gravel road mean hopefully the sounds will only be of nature. The conveniences of electricity, porta john, water, chairs, table, roof, cleaning supplies, rain curtains, and astounding views have my Glampers coming back often. Designed with Dogs in mind with a two-gate system and no need for a leash when on the deck. Obnoxious, barking dogs are not welcome, so bring only controlled and well socialized dogs. Help me keep it dog friendly. Never block the road with a park car.

In the heart of the Smoky Mountains surrounded by Cherokee National Forest lies Standing Bear Farm, a turn of the century multi-generational farmstead including the original homestead, barns, outbuildings and farmhouse. The outbuildings have now been converted to a bunkhouse and cabin where we offer rustic lodging to hikers and others interested in stepping back from today's hectic lifestyle to a time in America's past when life in rural back-country Appalachia was considered the "good life". Road closure notice in the wake of hurricane Helene: PLEASE READ! Currently, we are accessible by road only via I40 East. You take Waterville Road Exit 451 and go underneath the interstate and up the gravel road (going around the road closed signs) to our hostel which is the first building on said road. We hope that I40 will open back up here soon with two lanes going in either direction, but as of now we do not know when that will be (though we hope soon!). We will post updates on our webpage and Facebook as we learn more and look forward to seeing everyone's smiling faces during the 2025 hiking season! We are first-come, first-served in Northbound thru hiking season (March 15 through May 15), however, reservations are available at all other times of the year by contacting us via phone 4234870014 (Call) or 4236080149 (Call or Text). Hike or drive-in. Business hours: 8am-8pm. Open year round and on holidays. Call ahead if arriving early in the morning or late at night. We offer shuttles to various locations on and off the trail.
