Weekend Trip to Crystal Coast Hidden Gem

Staying at Kelly’s “Hidden Gem” was amazing! Surrounded by trees and the sound of birds, the peaceful atmosphere was unexpected so close to EVERYTHING! Emerald Isle, Hammock Beach, restaurants, and a gorgeous trail connecting boardwalks across the marshland. This quiet spot has it all; friendly but not intrusive hosts, clean restroom, hot showers, fire element, cool beach theme, electric & water hookups, and location, location, location. I’m already planning another trip back this Summer.

2nd time here. Love this spot. Great for a quick overnight camp after work. Only 10 min from my house. Very peaceful property. Loved the addition of the picnic bench!!! Would highly recommend.

Weekend Trip to Big Cypress Farm

Booked last minute for a spontaneous roadtrip. Susan was a pleasant and hospitable host. She’d even texted to check on us a couple times during our stay. The spot was exactly as described and my friend and I we’re even visited by a group of ducks waddling around the tent before flocking off into the pond on our last morning. Outdoor toilet had toilet paper and did not smell bad, we’d even got to cook over a fire using the fire pit they left for us. Close proximity to New Bern and definitely worth consideration if looking for a place to stay. Make sure to bring bug spray though

Great quiet and private experience, there’s a little noise from the nearby road but nothing too distracting. Veronika was extremely quick to respond and was very accommodating. We will definitely camp here again!

2 nights at Oak Grove Retreat

This is truly a peaceful, beautiful place to camp and just be. The owners and everyone there are welcoming and helpful, they will treat you like family. Everything is so well thought out, including environmentally conscious facilities, places to meditate, a nature trail, and lots of fun, hippie art. The chapel is the best part, especially the light coming through the windows and the drums. Definitely planning on coming back, with more people next time. It truly feels like sacred ground.

This is great place to camp. Lots of privacy, beautiful setting, and a very friendly, accommodating host. If I am ever back in this area, I will definitely camp here again. And the host has plans to keep improving the area.

Staff was very welcoming and helpful. Fire wood was provided and they even escorted us to our campsite. Campsite was clean and debris free and was overall pretty peaceful.

Great location! The hosts were very helpful and the facilities were as described. It was so much nicer than trying to camp as a group at a KOA or something like that. We will definitely come back if we are heading this way again.

Weekend Trip to Oak Grove Retreat

My stay at Oak Grove Retreat far surpassed my expectations in every way! The location is near enough off of I95 so getting there was quick and made it the perfect to stop for the night to break up my drive south. The property has a few features I appreciated, particularly the composting toilet (a very nice one, I've seen many), the fire pit that was generously supplied with firewood (thanks again!), I had a magical moonlit stroll on the path through the woods before turning in. There is a beautiful old church building on the property that hosts a variety of interesting activities. Kevin was a friendly and attentive host. He made sure I had everything I needed, and made me feel quite welcome to enjoy the space. I would absolutely recommend this place, and recommend looking into the variety of community activities on offer as well.

Big Cypress Farm

We are a family farm. Established in the 1970s we have lots of local wildlife and water fowl. We have chickens. A lake that is stocked with catfish,brim and bass The sunsets are incredible. And when the full moon is over the pond it is an amazing sight. You can relax here by the pond or venture out to explore historic down town New Bern ,or head the the beach located in Morehead, Swansboro, and the surrounding areas. Check the local Restaurants and the local shops as well. Throughout the year we are surrounded by many different festivals as well. You can listen to the crickets and the birds chirping, and watch the squirrel as they jump and run from tree to tree.we are close to the beaches and are in close proximity of the national Forrest as well. And there are quite a few golf courses near to us as well. We are a work in progress and would be considered primitive Campground. Nick’s Nook

Our little private campground is a hidden jewel in the making. Each campsite is private. We are not a parking lot like so many campgrounds are these days. We are still currently working on infrastructure but are willing to host campers that are self sufficient at a reduced rate for now. We do have a fun play ground, hiking trails, a steam we lovingly named Alligator Gore (to keep the little ones out of the mud). We are pet friendly. Each site has a fire ring or fire pit. We have a full bathroom available. We have a small camp store. We have group camp sites, pull through RV / Camper sites and a few glamping cabins. Located only 40 minutes from the NC coast and much more affordable and less crowded. We are still growing so we do not have a pool yet but will have one in the future. We do have a kids and youth program with weekly crafts and other activities. Picnic tables are available on some sites. Almost across the street is a wonderful boat ramp and fishing spot on the Cape Fear River. Canoe down to a sand bank about a mile down river and have a romantic picnic. A Celtic themed restaurant, the Mad Boar, is just a 10 minute drive if you are looking for a unique farm to table experience. And Duplin Winery is just 15 minutes away with tastings and tours. Located just 10 minutes from I-40 off US 41 we are easily found. A diamond in the rough.

The farm was originally established in 1832 by the Pender Family. On the current 25 acres is a restored 1920s Episcopal Mission Church with parklike grounds that is maintained year-round and has a rich and interesting history. We have host a wide variety of events over the years, including weddings, receptions, meetings, retreats, drum circles, sound healing's, festivals and more. Camping is available in the field or in the 17 acre woods. Learn more about this land: Welcome to Oak Grove - a property with a 100 year old de-consecrated Episcopal church, beautiful woods, and amazing grandfather oaks. A common site for weddings, drum circles, and other metaphysical and spiritual happenings, the property has a labyrinth, a free expression chalkboard, a Zen sand box that are free to use. A short walk down the wooded trail brings you to a small clearing with a central fire pit and several areas suitable for a tent. Situated close to a road, traffic can be heard but easily tuned out, particularly as the road gets much quieter at night. The woods are next to a large open field that is great for star gazing.
