Both domes can be booked individually or together (please see my other listings in my profile for availability). My goal is always to maximize privacy and I’ve worked hard to create guest seclusion and minimize visibility from the other dome. With that, the domes are separated by 150 feet but are connected via a staircase that has been built into the mountain. If another couple is staying in the other dome during your stay, it is likely that you may hear them during your stay. Finally, our ideal location and close proximity to Blowing Rock is a direct result of our proximity to NC 321. Guests should be aware that they may hear road noise. STEEP MOUNTAIN DRIVEWAY: Please note that the driveway to the TreePod is a mountain road that is ONLY accessible by AWD or 4x4. If you are not comfortable driving on gravel mountain roads, or do not have a 4x4 or AWD, you’re welcome to park at a dedicated space at the top of the driveway and take a 450’ hike to the dome. WINTER WEATHER: In the event of a winter weather during your stay you will be required to park at the top of the driveway regardless of what type of vehicle you arrive in. This does involve a short 350’ walk from that location to the GeoDome door. In general snow fall is light and usually melts the next day. HEATING/COOLING: The Treepod includes both heating and cooling as well as several space heaters and electric blankets. While we make every attempt to create a comfortable environment the domes are not insulated in the same way your home may be and does not heat and cool like a conventional home or apartment. We’ll provide the heated blankets, please bring plenty of warm clothing in the winter. PARKING: Parking is FREE and on Premises but we are only able to accommodate ONE vehicle during your stay. KITCHEN: During the winter months, the kitchen sink may be closed to prevent freezing pipes. If so, water is accessible in the fully functional and heated bathroom. As always, your welcome to use the grill with the supplied grilling tools for cooking. Our 19 acres on Brushy Mountain is nestled away in the Ellicott Rock Wilderness Area of the Nantahala National Forest, the largest of NC's four National Forests with over 500,000 acres of pristine wilderness. The famous Iron Bridge over the headwaters of the Chattooga River is just a short drive away down Bull Pen Road. You will find some of the best trout fishing and hiking trails in all of North Carolina at your doorstep. This temperate rain forest is enjoyable in every season and is exceptional in its ecological diversity and abundance. If you are interested in hiking to beautiful waterfalls, fishing in native trout streams, bird watching or star gazing, this is the place for you! And if you need supplies from town, Cashiers is the closest and is about 25 minutes away and Highlands is about a 45 minute drive. Both have great restaurants and shops to check out. Our gated, gravel driveway is steep and a half mile long. You will need an all-wheel or 4 Wheel drive vehicle to get up the driveway without spinning. There is ample space to turn around to park, but due to the nature of our driveway we limit the length of RV's to no more than 20 feet. Barndo is an active construction zone as we turn it into a full facility with cooking and laundry benefits so don’t expect fancy but that’s not our goal. Expect to see a sweet dog, a goat and probably a chicken ( and even enjoying a free egg) and definitely a tractor. Have a good time but I don’t tolerate stupid and you are expected to not leave a mess like a true outdoorsman should. There is an of wildlife including beavers, turkeys( roosting in the valley), deer and such to see because of our low impact approach so observe but don’t harass. We hope to become your destination and guide to the great outdoors.

We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. This site is accessed via a short trail through the trees down a gentle, sloping hill, and finally by a short stairway, and as such it may not be easily accessible for campers with limited mobility. Located on the grounds of the Duckpond Pottery, The Quack Shack is a secluded treehouse perched along the banks of the French Broad River. The structure is an 8x10 A-frame that transforms via a hinged wall into an open-air cabana with a charming deck that affords spectacular views of the French Broad River and surrounding countryside. The interior of the Quack Shack, with its vaulted 11-foot ceiling and earthen plaster walls, provides a warm glow in a rainforest environment. It is furnished with a comfortable seating area surrounding a coffee table that can be easily converted to a full-size queen bed at night. On the outside deck are beach chairs and a chimenea available for use. The quack shack has electric power (1 outlet only). Amenities include a bathroom located a short walk away at the main building as well as an open-air on-demand shower located off the bathroom on a deck overlooking the French Broad River. Morning coffee and tea is available at The Tea Hut located just a hop, skip, and jump from the treehouse. A new two person wood fired hot tub and cold plunge is now located just off the steps of the treehouse. (Contact us if you’d like to reserve it during your stay. Hot tub is $40/first night and $15 each following nigjt) NOTE: The Duckpond Pottery is a working studio pottery and gallery that is open to the public. This indoor–outdoor property has everything you need for the perfect glamping experience. MAXIUM of 6 guests inside the deck, but you can bring a tent and add extra guests for a one-time fee in the “Extras” section at checkout. Our unique open-air glamping deck features a fully functional kitchen with everything you need to cook comfortably. The kitchen includes hot water at the sink, an under-counter refrigerator and freezer, a dishwasher, induction cooktop, air fryer/toaster oven, and all your coffee and tea essentials. There’s also an outdoor grill area for your BBQ nights. An EV charger is included. The heated bathroom includes a large modern shower, bathroom vanity with a lighted mirror, toilet, and fresh towels. Sleeping arrangements include two separate lofts accessible by angled ladders. One loft has luxurious king bed and the other loft has two twin beds, all with premium linens. The spacious sectional on the main floor can also be used for sleeping, or you can unfold the comfortable queen floor bed. A smart TV is mounted inside the deck for your entertainment. Bringing friends or extra kiddos? No problem! There’s an outdoor tent pad area available for additional guests. Can I get a hot tub? Yes, you can! We’ve added a large private hot tub on the lower side of the deck, complete with a heater for those chilly fall and winter nights. We will be adding a polar plunge area by the branch for guests who want to cool off in style. Enjoy evenings by the outdoor fire pit, surrounded by nature and the soothing trickling sounds of the branch. Please note: The glamping deck sits on a shared driveway with neighbor traffic in the early morning and after school hours. While we love animals, this site is pet-free. Neighbors may occasionally walk their pets along the driveway in the afternoon or evening. We provide firewood, fresh-ground coffee and creamer, tea, cooking spices, all cookware, plates, bowls, and linens for your stay. Please bring your own tent if you’re hosting extra guests. When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling. Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood. You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7. Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more. Whether it’s the absence of electricity (in the cabin), the quiet of the country, no city glow in the night sky, or the once common experience of the natural world dominating over human-made or human-crafted things, it’s astonishing for many of us to see and feel and experience without constant communications via text and email and the distractions of modern life. Both domes can be booked individually or together (please see my other listings in my profile for availability). My goal is always to maximize privacy and I’ve worked hard to create guest seclusion and minimize visibility from the other dome. With that, the domes are separated by 150 feet but are connected via a staircase that has been built into the mountain. If another couple is staying in the other dome during your stay, it is likely that you may hear them during your stay. Finally, our ideal location and close proximity to Blowing Rock is a direct result of our proximity to NC 321. Guests should be aware that they may hear road noise. STEEP MOUNTAIN DRIVEWAY: Please note that the driveway to the TreePod is a mountain road that is ONLY accessible by AWD or 4x4. If you are not comfortable driving on gravel mountain roads, or do not have a 4x4 or AWD, you’re welcome to park at a dedicated space at the top of the driveway and take a 450’ hike to the dome. WINTER WEATHER: In the event of a winter weather during your stay you will be required to park at the top of the driveway regardless of what type of vehicle you arrive in. This does involve a short 350’ walk from that location to the GeoDome door. In general snow fall is light and usually melts the next day. HEATING/COOLING: The Treepod includes both heating and cooling as well as several space heaters and electric blankets. While we make every attempt to create a comfortable environment the domes are not insulated in the same way your home may be and does not heat and cool like a conventional home or apartment. Our stay here was truly special. It was just my fiancé and me, and it ended up being exactly the kind of peaceful getaway we needed. Even though the rain kept us from using the fire pit, it honestly turned into one of the best parts of the trip — listening to the steady sound of rain on the deck and in the trees made everything feel incredibly calm and cozy. The space itself was thoughtfully set up and felt both comfortable and unique, giving us the chance to disconnect from the noise of everyday life and just enjoy being together. It struck a perfect balance between feeling tucked away in nature and still having everything we needed to relax. We left feeling refreshed, grateful for the experience, and really glad we chose to stay here. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down and appreciate the moment, and we’d absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, memorable escape.

The campground was peaceful and the hosts were very accommodating we had a clean campsite and a fire pit loaded with wood when we arrived. We loved the spa it was worth the money to relax there after a long days hike. I feel like being able to add on 30 minute increments should be an option also. As opposed to purchasing by the hour. We felt we needed just a little extra time there. The hot shower included with the spa also would not work for us which was disappointing considering this was most of the reason we originally chose to purchase the spa add on. We then tried to shower at the free shower near by but it was just too cold for us despite being heated. “Hot” shower was a stretch there it was warm at best. But overall, enjoyed it. The heater in the tents kept us warm even when the temp dropped to 32 for a night. The privacy at mtg 3 was awesome and loved hearing the church bells across the hills. If you plan to charge your phone make sure to bring a usb Compatible chord.

We had a great stay at this Hipcamp cabin. The setup was simple but very well done — everything felt intentional and comfortable without being overcomplicated. It really allowed us to slow down and feel connected to the outdoors, which is exactly what we were hoping for. The hot tub was an especially nice touch. Being able to relax in it while surrounded by nature made the experience even better. Overall, a peaceful and refreshing getaway — we’d definitely come back!

We stayed in the Blue Ocean mini house right after the big freeze late January. The cabin was so warm and cozy. Great attention to detail such as bathrobes for the hot tub, lots of firewood, all the cooking utensils one could need! The view was spectacular. We didn’t hike because of the frigid cold but want to come back this summer to take advantage of all the trails nearby. The host was also so kind, making sure we got in ok and that we had everything we need (but without being intrusive)! Thanks we will be back for sure!!

The Ocean Blue cabin was absolutely gorgeous! Kevin is a fantastic and super hospitable host!! Me and my boyfriend chose the more secluded cabin that was on its own driveway! Which was much more preferred for us compared to the other cabins that were on one other driveway altogether. Our cabin might not have had the best mountain views, but the stargazing was phenomenal! Kevin made sure the hot tub was warmed up and ready to go, fresh firewood was cut and stacked by the fire pit and the cabin was nice and warm when we walked in! The only thing we could’ve asked for was better whether lol! This is somewhere we will absolutely be back to over and over again!!

Still spectacular. I want to add a few more notes. We've been in a hundred hot tubs and this is the best model so far. This past trip temps were in the teens and the heat kept up impeccably. The best part is that it heats silently. This is important if you prefer listening to nature rather than the hum of a hot tub pump. Also very clean and well maintained. You can park your trailer parallel to and close to the firepit setup and hot tub and get level using 6" ramps under each tire on the low side. But we found we prefer to be parallel to the woods as shown in these pictures. It provides a more panoramic 280° view from the hot tub. Setting up this way requires 6" ramps under each tire and the tongue dropped almost to the ground. It was worth it to us.

The sites were well maintained and clean! Site 1 offered good space with great access to the bathroom, showers, etc. while providing privacy at the same time. The location of the grounds offered great views of both the sunrise and sunsets, the common area has the best sunset mountain view while relaxing in the hammock and also offers a great stargazing spot. We had a great time camping here and will be back.

4 nights at Cozy Cabin w/Hot-Tub

absolutely wonderful place to wind down and enjoy nature. the cabin was the perfect size, spacious, warm and stocked with everything you’d need. the property was gorgeous, the trails right on site were a great introduction to the area before hitting Stone Mountain. both Marsha and Greg were welcoming and friendly, making us feel right at home. we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay for a cozy trip in the mountains.

4 nights at Starlight Hills

Host was response rate was fast and friendly. He made sure we were warm and comfortable during the whole stay. I really enjoyed the spa and the view it had for us. I want to come back with the update plans he has for his campgrounds and the scenery.
