We have had our son develop an edible forest garden and a unique diversified small orchard so we can eat and share healthy organic fruits and vegetables while helping our environment and wildlife and educating others to do the same. Devil’s Hopyard got its name from a couple of different stories, although it does sounds like a great name for a delicious india pale ale. The Hopyard part is in fact believed to have origins tracing back to a farmer who grew hops for brewing near Chapman Falls, the main attraction of this area. The Devil part likely comes from early settlers who tried to explain away the unique potholes in the stone around the waterfall with the supernatural.These potholes are actually perfectly explainable by science, go figure. As stones moved down stream, some would occasionally get trapped in an eddy, causing them to swirl around and erode the rock. The devil story is much more interesting though, which claims that the devil accidentally got his tail wet one day and was so angry, he burned holes in the stones with his hooves. Guess you'll have to go see it for yourself and make up your own mind on what truly happened. While you're there, make sure to check out the awesome hiking, fishing and mountain biking in the area. Devil's Hopyard State Park is just as full of outdoor activities as it is with history.

Just book it and make sure to ask for whatever you need, because it's all ala carte. I was pleasantly surprised. We had such a heartfelt conversation with owners , and I shared my child’s health challenges. Our family is living in remission. I had no idea that this magical place regularly donates to children battling cancer. What I didn’t realize until later was that this place quietly supports children fighting cancer (donate their % of earnings ) and they welcome people with cancer free of charge. I was deeply moved when I learned that till cry The place itself is absolutely enchanting. We originally planned to stay for one night, but we were gifted two extra nights, we immediately accepted with gratitude as I were free next two days . My child forgot about pain and fear, completely absorbed in the many wonderful activities for kids, especially the time spent with the friendly small farm animals cats dogs and well mannered Jan’s children. There should be more places like this in the world. We will definitely return — not just for rest, but as a form of therapy, since we live close by . Thank you guys.

We enjoyed our stay here! It was very brief and unfortunately rainy when we stayed but a good experience. Amy was responsive and the directions to get there and where to park were clear. Very peaceful place. I hope we can explore the property next time we are up that way!

Easy to find with Google and written directions. The property is secluded and ideal for camping with close access to local trails. Mary and Victor were very nice and when asked were flexible to let us stay in the converted trailer due to weather. The horses were amazing and friendly to bet! Great experience and definitely will return and recommend.

What a magical experience! Goats, chickens, geese, ducks, amazing Rica the dog, playground for toddlers (5-7 years). Jan and Diane were accommodating and attentive to our requests. Be prepared to come with your camping equipments including cookware and utensils. Sleeping bags were provided. A supermarket is 2 minutes away so you can get anything you might have forgotten anyway.

1 night at The Sandbox Campground

Great spot to stop for a few days and catch up on some remote work on the road. We invited Brendan to stop by and got a personal tour of the Sandbox beach volleyball facility and new amphitheater currently under construction. Really close to historic Mystic and Stonington, as well as, some pleasant short hikes! Brendan was very nice and accommodating. We're hoping to pass through next year to see the progress on the theater project!

This campground is amazing! If you want a place that is serine and private, this is the place for you. Mary and Victor are super hospitable and accommodating. They keep the outhouses clean and the campsites are roomy and comfortable. It’s a beautiful property with gorgeous horses. Thanks to the hosts for a wonderful stay!!! I recommend this to anyone who likes true camping as there are no hookups, but gorgeous serenity and peace.

Weekend Trip to Mickelberry Forest Gardens

Amy was communicative and so lovely! The property is beautiful. The goats and chickens and ducks were fun camp neighbors to have. There’s a gas station and market 5 minutes away should you need anything last minute. Due to the grass in the field being dry, we had to camp a little closer to the house than we would have preferred so that we could have easier access to load/unload our camping gear and so that we could have fresh grass to set up the fire pit over. But, it sounds like the meadow will be developed over time to allow for that! So, knowing that I think we would definitely consider returning when my friend and I continue our annual camping tradition next year!

Amy and Bill were wonderful hosts - we had two spots (a tent and an Airstream) and really enjoyed the atmosphere and gardens - especially the cute ducks waddling around! Great spot - we will be back :)
