Lake Taghkanic is a great place for both summer and winter stays, with plenty of tent campsites as well as cabins and cottages, and a variety of activities to do year round. For winter folks, there's cross-country skiing and snowmobile trails, as well as ice skating and ice fishing areas, and plenty of fire pits to warm those chilly bones. For summer lovin', there are two beaches, so if someone kicks sand in your potato salad (accidentally, of course), you can just go to another beach and pretend like it never happened. The only sleeping quarters that are on the water are some of the cottages in the West End Cottage Area, so if you're planning on playing Beach Party Bingo, plan accordingly or be willing to walk a bit from your tent or cabin.

The Little Witch Cottage is a rustic charming cottage from 1929 with timber framing and Catskill blue stone flooring. It sits in the middle of our yard about 200 feet from our more modern home. We have about 9 acres set back from the road. The cottage has a queen sized bed, dining table, and small kitchenette.
The kitchenette has a mini fridge, dishes, toaster oven, french press for coffee and an induction stove top. There is basic cooking supplies such as pots and pans.
We wired this vintage beauty to run on solar power and has an outhouse with a composting toilet, sink, and heated outdoor shower.
Outside the cottage is a small garden, picnic table, fire pit, and chairs.
Our land is mostly sloped fields that we are slowly turning into meadows full of native flowers and plants. There are mowed paths through the tall grass.
This is perfect glamping spot, a mixture of comfort and nature.

Well off the beaten track, it's scenic, private and peaceful. Camping at Moon In The Pond Farm is a bit of heaven.
There are separate sites to choose. Around the farm, you have your own secluded spot to enjoy. (Though you may be in a field next to our Scottish Highland cattle!) Two are tent sites: the PondSide and the FieldEdge. There's one site for small/tiny RVs or Campervan. And finally there's the HiddenCabin--a bed a roof and convenience. Each has a firepit with a small grill to cook over the fire. (all firewood provided)
Our campsites are in quieter areas of the farm. One overlooks the pond, others are on the edges of different farm fields, one a cabin nearer the farmstead. All require a beautiful, bucolic trek of 150-350 yards from the roadside parking--ensuring the quiet, natural experience. During the day times, you may see or hear farm work. At night it's lusciously dark and serenely quiet. You'll hear owls hoot, frogs croak, crickets chirp, foxes yowl and coyotes howl! In June and July the fields and trees light up like Christmas with fireflies, and you'll see the stars.
During the week is the absolute best time--the local hot spots (or cooling down spots!) are much quieter, and all our campsites have reduced weekday rates. If you can, take advantage by adding a Thursday or Sunday night to a weekend stay.
We've got an awesome, easy hiking trail on adjacent Nature Conservancy land. It meanders through woodlands, around rock ledges, through wetlands (on a 600' of boardwalk) and ends at a beautiful stream and pond with a gigantic beaver dam.
Not far from here are numerous well-marked hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail (with famous Bash Bish Falls) and several offshoots (Sage's Ravine, Race Brook Falls), Bartholomew's Cobble, Umpacheenee Falls, and others). Also in the neighborhood are opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, gavel-road and country-road biking, and pretty much any outdoor activity/adventure opportunity. Or... you can just chill and relax, sleep, or read the day away!
Love food? This is Farm-to-Table for real! Never so close--the table's AT the farm! Bring your cooking gear and get some of our wicked fresh organic food--veggies, chops, sausages, eggs, bacon, granola, yogurt, etc. Sear yourself up a real treat!
Very nearby, as the Berkshires is a cultural mecca, there are also numerous opportunities from many great restaurants to art, dance, music, spas, galleries, antique shops, museums, cafes and much more.
It's still amazingly quiet at the farm where the Milky Way is clearly visible.

This piece of land was developed by my mother, and named after my grandmother: The Awakening Garden is a translation of her name in Chinese.
It is tucked in between the Hudson River (8 miles to the East) and the Catskill Mountains (10 miles to the west). It is just 6 miles from the Village of Saugerties and 14 miles to Woodstock, NY.
The piece available for camping is 10 acres, but the entire Garden is comprised of 98 acres of rolling land (most of it in a forestry protection plan) bordered on the west by acres of marshland. Tree huggers unite! This is the promised land. Consisting of two separate forests, the wooded bastions of Mother Nature rise tall and strong in these parts. Each tree is beautiful in its own way, but perhaps no trunk is better for squeezing than those in the 200-year old white pine grove in the Whittemore Recreation Area of the Peoples Forest.
One can only hug so many trees, however, so it’s a good thing there are lots of other things to do in the American Legion and Peoples State Forests. Our 75 acres is a wonderful, diverse mix of habitat, harmoniously integrated with our small farm. This land was the homestead of the very first non native settler of the area, John Wiley, in 1787. Before that, it was the land of the Mahican native Americans. They named it "valley of the butternut trees", or Wyomanock.
The Wyomanock Creek is the backbone of this little valley. Beaver have dammed the creek at several points to create ponds and other wetland features that support a diversity of wildlife including otter, moose and a myriad of birds, from osprey to herons. This sanctuary is host to many uncommon native plants and plant communities. We would love to share it with you!
Your host, Thom, invites you to property to explore 75 acres of meadows, woods and water. Choose one of several sites either in the woods or open areas. You are also free to use our outdoor solar shower or take a dip in the cold pond or artesian spring fed pool.
Our location is convenient to the Berkshire Mountains, state parks, hiking and other attractions, including Ramble Wild tree to tree adventures and Jiminy Peak. There are a few miles of rail trail access just down the road.

Great access to the Roaring Kill Trailhead and to the Devil's Path Hiking Trail. If you're looking for some water activities take a short drive to Colgate Lake. Site guidelines Do be careful driving on the dirt jeep track out to the camp. Don't miss swimming in the Roaring Kill Falls. Do leave the campsite just as you found it. "Don't feed the bears." Seriously, do keep a very clean camp. Do ask questions about local activities- swimming holes, hiking, etc. Please take all trash with you, leave no trace!

The building site is an old Charchoal mound that was in use in the 1700's so there is a lot of history between the building and site where it sits. This is our second time camping here and we loved it again! The site is peaceful and private and always in great condition upon arrival.
We spent our mornings exploring the stream, which our two year old loved! We also took advantage of the shady hammock to relax in the shade. I love that we always hear an abundance of frogs in the evening and an owl and other wildlife as we fall asleep. Mark is a communicative and generous host who clearly cares about the property and puts time and energy into its maintenance. I highly recommend this site!

My family and I had a nice time at Stonecutter's. The site has everything you need. We arrived 1 hour earlier than check in time at 2pm, Jay said it was okay, but the site didn't feel prepped for us. The tent wasn't lived in recently, so was filled with spiders and nests of long-legs everywhere. There was no salt, oil, or any spices in the kitchen. Everything looked a little disheveled. After we cleaned and settled in, I felt better and it's a lovely, cozy, very private ground. The bed is super comfortable. Jay offered a cot for us too which I was thankful for, but we didn't end up using it.
I feel very badly and want to apologize that we didn't empty the toilet or take the trash out of the site the morning we checked out. The storm was coming in, it started raining and one of my kids wasn't feeling well. We rushed out and totally forgot to clean the BR and trash. My deepest apologies!!
Overall this is a great private site close to many activities and just a few minutes from downtown Woodstock. We also rented the rowboat, so fun!

Weekend Trip to Cherry Plain Sanctuary Farm
I loved spending the night at this property. Tipi camping with views of horses and goats. Very off grid. No electricity or running water and a composting toilet. I just sat most of the day watching the animals and enjoying an outside fire pit. I was traveling alone and felt very safe. Nice to just be out in nature for one night. There was a local restaurant nearby if you didn't want to cook on the fire, that was very reasonable. Jules the host was friendly

The Schoharie Creekside Tent is simply wonderful! My wife and I stayed with our 3 yr old son for 2 nights and loved every minute. Max and his wife are incredibly friendly, accommodating and helpful. There's a beautiful, easy hike up to the Roaringkill Falls on the property that was a perfect adventure with our kiddo. The creek behind the tent is beautiful and fun to play in. The property is close to town if you need to hop in for supplies and close to some breweries for any non-campaign adventures. Can't say enough good things about the property, we'll definitely be coming back.
Because I've seen it mentioned in other reviews, I will say in my opinion the $15 for a bin of firewood is not a bad deal. When buying small bundles of firewood I would expect to pay nearly the same amount, and the bins Max provides have more wood, he includes kindling and fire starter materials, and the wood is quality and makes great fires. Not a bad deal at all.

If your looking for seclusion with quick river access, surprisingly good reception to listen to tunes on Bluetooth and a site where you barely have to bring anything as everything you’ll need or want is supplied and set up for you then you’ll find it as delightful as I did. Paula and Bill the owners are also the best, they were most helpful in supplying their input on any questions I had. Will def be back, thank you guys

We loved our stay at Moon in the Pond Farm. We had our first camping trip with our 8mo and were so pleased with the place. We booked the cabin which offered electricity which we found helpful so we could use a fan in the heat, and have her monitor plugged in while we enjoyed the campfire nearby. Dom had great local recommendations for hiking and watering holes and it was so nice to have farm fresh food, firewood on site and to be able to explore the property and see the farm animals. Our friends were able to book the tent sites on the property and we all communed at our site for meals and a fire. We all said it was a place we would go back to!

What a wonderful place in a wonderful town. The place was amazing. Everything you could ever need to have a great camping trip was there or could of easily be provided. Jay was a great host that responds right away for any of your needs. The location was not far away from any stores just in case you want to pick up different stuff, so you could pack lightly if you want. You're located a short ride away from many trails and lakes just in case you want to explore around. Also big plus that you could let your fur baby run free on the site, so highly recommended if you have a pet to bring along. One of the biggest treats that you don't find in many site is the ability to take a nice hot shower at any time. All in all I would highly recommend the place. The spot is well kept and when you go to the local areas the people where pretty friendly. Will most definitely look into staying there again on another date.

Weekend Trip to Beavertides Farm
My sisters and I stayed at the camp for the weekend. We all had such a good time. It was restful and relaxing, and Maureen was a great host. She was so friendly and knowledgeable. The outhouse didn't even smell bad, and there were fresh flowers left in it. And in the tent We are already planning our next trip.
The horses we're so sweet and we even got to see a gaggle of geese. We saw a million stars and built a campfire for smores.
And the accommodations were comfortable.
And beautiful. It felt like home away from home.
Five out of five stars for this amazing stay.

Weekend Trip to Quentins Treehouse
This was our third visit and we had a great time as always. It’s a beautiful spot in a great area. We went swimming in the lake and hung out at the site most of the trip. When we did venture out we visited some of the shops in Lee and hiked at Gould Meadow in Stockbridge. It was a relaxing stay and we had great weather.

I thought it was very appropriate to celebrate my 40th in a witch’s cottage and my instinct was spot on. This place was exactly what I had envisioned for the weekend.
The property is very special, it was a perfect place to sip on a slow contemplative cup of tea while admiring the surrounding garden and woods and taking in all the sounds of nature.
Caitlin and Andre are excellent hosts, they were very friendly and accessible. Andre gave my friend’s toddler a full tour of the gardens. He was delighted by the truck and sampling strawberries.
It was perfect, we hope to return to witch cottage soon. Thanks so much for hosting us!

We had such a great stay in the east camp. Paula and Bill really have thought of everything and made our stay stress free. There were other campers at the west site but the property is so big we never ran into them and it was like having the whole place to ourselves. Looking forward to coming back!
