Dredge spoils were transported and placed creating a tract of land
that rises 50 feet above the river and surrounding lands.
The New York Power Authority acquired the property from the Leishman's who owned and operated a farm on the surrounding lands.
In 2000, the New York Power Authority deemed the property surplus and conveyed it to the Town of Waddington.
This Hip-Camp endeavor is hopefully our first step in creating a fully functional RV Park and campsite for everyone to enjoy.

Our property was purchased and farmed by my ancestors in 1803. They cleared the meadow area of trees and rocks and established the stone wall, enclosing the area. The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins.
When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house has become a cabin and has been improved and ready for visitors. We have a double futon, small wood stove and gas burners for a cozy indoor experience.
With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in the small cabin all are included in the cost of booking!
Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition.
The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible Mid-May to the end of September.
There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. The closest gas station and convenience store is about 20 minutes in the village of Parishville.

You don't have to be an interpretive dancer (though it's probably recommended) to understand the helpful interpretive signs that describe the six distinct habitats through which the Beaver Pond Nature Trail passes at Higley Flow State Park. Located in a hay meadow that is farmed 2 to 3 times a year to provide food for our animals. Next to the meadow is a mix of maple and pine trees. Weekend Trip to Magikal trails
Very funky trails filled with small trinkets. It was fun to explore the property! It’s clear that a lot of love has gone into the whole space!! The lean-to and outhouse were definitely DIY and felt sturdy but Les robust than I was expecting. The lean-to was cozy though and had a heavy curtain to keep out the majority of the bugs and also helped insulate the space a bit so we stayed warm overnight on a chilly fall evening. Sue was super accommodating and let us charge our phones on her screened-in porch. We would stay here again!

Weekend Trip to Karley's Cabin
Karley's Cabin was such a beautiful cabin! As the instructions will say, you will need to bring your own sheets, towels, and pillow covers; however, the views totally make up for it! It had all the basic amenities (coffee pot, microwave, toaster oven, regular oven, personal space heaters, pots and pans) that you could need! There are a few card games, and books to read there. There is also a wood stove for nights where it's extra chilly! When we were there, there was some wood ready for use, but there's also a bunch of firewood stands along the roads. The hardest part was finding the driveway! It's going to take you all the way down the road- don't listen! It's the first right and it's uphill. Glad we used to truck to get up there, but I'm sure a SUV would be nice! Overall, would recommend this cabin to those who need a nice, intimate get away!

Sarah and Doug have an amazing slice of family history on this land. It's beautiful and unique with forest trails, open meadows, and the river. I enjoyed the wildlife--deer, frogs, songbirds--as well as the resident animals, Charlie Rose and Felix. Sarah and Doug were very welcoming, and when I picked a week of major downpours, they were very accommodating in making my stay more comfortable. I loved my stay, and this is a spot where I hope to return someday.

My wife and I had a wonderful time at Birch's! Paul was quick with a response and friendly to work with. He was able to get us in on a last minute cancellation and worked with our schedule. This campsite and general store have been around for a long time and you can't miss it if you're going to Cranberry Lake. If your fortunate enough to get a spot, you'll quickly learn why this is one of the best views on the lake. It has everything you need!

This camp was AMAZING. I was able to snag site 4, with only 2.5 days notice. The photos dont do the camp justice. I thought I was going to be in someones back yard- but this is actually part of a lake side "camping village" so it was like a dozen rvs and 5 or 6 tent sites.
The lake was gorgeous. Paul also runs a continent store that has everything!
It was a great location, has free wifi, warm clean bathrooms, boat rentals, and more!

Sue was a gracious host and has a very unique campsite with many amenities I don't usually expect. The camping site itself was tucked in the woods, and also cutely decorated. It was quiet and clean. My only suggestion would be to mark out the campsites spots a bit more clearly because I was confused of the actual spot to pitch a tent when I arrived.

We loved staying at number 10 with our tent! The campground looked a little cramped with a lot of huge RVs but in reality we had a lot of space and everyone was super friendly. The set up is more for RVs though with no station to wash out dishes for example. But the view and lake and fun stuff to do totally made up for it.

This was my first time camping in someone’s property instead of in a national or state forest. The host, Sue, made this experience a great one. Her property was beautiful and she was very kind and accommodating. There was drinking water available and a kettle, which I really appreciated. There was tea left out which was so nice to drink in her porch when it was raining. If I didn’t live 1000 miles away, I would definitely tell my friends to go stay here!
