The best campgrounds in Hudson Valley with hot tubs

From the Catskill mountains to historic villages along the river, the south-eastern corridor of New York has a certain romance. These sweeping vistas inspired the Hudson River School painters and continue to lure artists from New York City, less than an hour away. Today, the Hudson Valley is a blend of charming towns, rolling farmland and protected forests, as wells as posh resorts and restaurants. The Metro-North commuter line run as far north as Poughkeepsie for campers who don't have a car.

Harriman State Park and neighboring Bear Mountain State Park are an ideal home base to explore both nature and civilization. Harriman is the second largest park in the state, but only 40 miles from the city. The quiet forest holds 200 miles of hiking trails and dozens of lakes. The largest, Lake Sebago, has fishing, boat rentals, and a public swimming beach. Campers can make reservations at two campgrounds or book a rustic cabin.

For thinner crowds, head north to the Catskills. These rolling green peaks have some of New York's best hiking and skiing. The area also has many private campgrounds and cottages, including camping resorts that tend toward the glamorous with mini fridges and saunas.

North-South Lake is a popular family campground, with sandy beaches, boating, and a playground, as well as hundreds of tent sites. Hike up to the Kaaterskill Falls for a gorgeous view. Experienced hikers can press onward to the Devil's Path, one of the most dangerous trails in the East. For quiet nights, head to the nearby Minnewaska State Park Preserve, which has a much smaller campground and easy trails.

It goes without saying that you can explore the river valley by water as well. The Hudson River Greenway Water Trail stretches over 250 miles from Manhattan to the Adirondacks. The Greenway's map covers access points for kayak launching, along with nearby campsites in state parks.

From the mountain, you can hike to a waterfall or even hike across a lovely plain field surrounded by mountain ranges on both sides and crossing the creek over to Historic Stone houses in Hurley. Within a 10 minute drive check out some of the local restaurants like Alebrijes, Hickory BBQ & Smokehouse, and the Hurley Inn where the movie “Tootsie” was filmed!. Hurley Marbletown Trailhead and Rail trail parking are only a 6 minute drive away! The town of Kingston is about 15 minutes from our site where you will find Bluestone Wild Forest, antique shops, restaurants, other outdoor activities! Such a cute and cozy place to stay. The dogs enjoyed running around the property off-leash and my boyfriend and I loved the outdoor space. A bit rainy for us to use the projector outside, but we enjoyed movie night on the projector screen located inside the home. 10/10 stay, just wish we'd booked for a longer stay!

Peaceful and green! You'd love this place if you want to go camping, but also like to go to places during the day. We did a few local hikes and visited Woodstock during our trip. The camp was so quiet and clean. We loved it!

We had a wonderful and peaceful time. We camped in the tent with windows and were able to see so many stars. The location is super close to Woodstock and many good hikes. The host was very kind and responsive. We will definitely be back again soon! Already miss the location

I loved staying at this wonderful Hipcamp location, nestled in the heart of the Catskills! We enjoyed the outdoor movie projector under the stars while sitting in the relaxing hot tub, having a beer. The sauna was also a lovely place to unwind after a day of exploring. The tiny home was well-stocked and we didn't need a thing. The host had everything outlined and easy to access. We would 100% stay here again when visiting this area. Thank you for having us!

Weekend Trip to Sacred Hollow in Heart of Hudson

The spot for camping was nice and the host was very accommodating to allow my teardrop camper. The ground is soft for a tent, but you have to choose your location we’ll. because there are rocks underneathThe host answered my questions through the app which I wasn’t used to (first time hip camper) but it all worked out. Plenty of good firewood, but it was kind of pricey. All in all a great experience and place to stay. Btw- neighbors have a rooster:)

Weekend Trip to Hidden Gem Glamp

This was my first time using Hipcamp and Michelle and her property truly exceeded my expectations. Everything was seamless. She thought of everything on her property. The guest hot tub was out of service and she opened her personal one up to guests. The Zen Den provided all the essentials. The guest shower area was excellent and had warm water. There’s a movie library. Super cute. I would highly recommend.

What a beautiful stay! We arrived to an amazingly kept tiny home with everything ready to use on the perfect layout of land. The hot tub was one of the best parts, as was the cauldron fire pit and projector! Having cookware, coffee machine and a kitchen made our stay even more enjoyable. The bathroom was gorgeous, but everything in total was great! We will definitely be back again, maybe on the motorcycles to enjoy more of the beautiful back roads! Thank you so much! Absolutely spreading the word on this gorgeous, relaxing mountain stay!

I loved camping here. The mini golf course was so quirky and fun. The site/tent was clean and exactly as advertised. Owners were very responsive. Bathroom and shower facilities were spotless. Everything you could possibly need and more frankly. 10/10
