Cabot has lots to offer for day trips, be it water sports, rail trail on bikes or walking, music, and cultural events, or purchasing fresh milk, beef, eggs, apples, cheese, or homemade breads, all from Cabot. Contra Dance, music from Cabot Arts, or at the Den our local pub, are 2 miles away. The Bread and Puppet, Highland Center for the Arts, Barre Oprah house, art galleries, etc within an hour drive in any direction. A great place for children, I have swings and trees to climb, games, archaeological digs, scavenger hunts finding 10 different antique farm implements, and learning how they were used, to learning about mini microbe's and how to be friends with pollinators. Massage including scar release, and MPS, Cranial Release, energy work with tuning forks and singing bowls are available. Singing bowl concert in the gardens can also happen! Expect the unexpected! Weekend Trip to The Hollow at Dynamite Falls

We hiked! We hot tubbed! We ziplined! Cold plunged in the waterfall on the mountain side! Explored the whole entire brook. Cooked all meals on the open fire, slept beautifully in the queen sized bed. The hike to the tent was very steep, pack a little lighter than we did lol 🤪 so much fun! Once in a lifetime kind of stuff ❤️❤️

4 nights at The Hollow at Dynamite Falls

Dynamite Hollow felt less like a place we stayed and more like a little world we got to disappear into for five days. My husband, our 8- and 9-year-olds, our dog Spumoni, and I absolutely loved every August minute. The water is impossibly clear, the property is peaceful, clean, and thoughtfully cared for, and somehow there is always another little corner to explore. The Upper Gorge was especially magical—lush, mossy, almost New Zealand-like, with that rare feeling that maybe no one had ever wandered through there before you. We swam, explored, soaked in the amazing hot tub, built fires with the plentiful dry, cut firewood, and settled into the kind of slow days you wish could last much longer. Everything we needed was there, and the recommendations for things to see and do were spot-on. It’s wild and beautiful without sacrificing comfort—the perfect mix of adventure and retreat. Five days somehow didn’t feel like enough. We were already talking about our next trip before we even left…will be back!!

1 night at Woodland's Edge Glamping & Hot Tubs

Andrea was so prompt in responses right from the start, and as a parent myself, I understand how that can be challenging so I value that even more. When my partner and I arrived, she greeted us at the car and offered to help carry our things as she guided us to the cabin. And was attentive to all of our needs, flexible with my ask of the hot tub. I did the date add on and we had the sweet touch of a big slice of cake to share...I don't know that that was part of it..so I think it may have been a special and thoughtful touch. Really can't say enough sweet things about how our stay was, and the property! We love how everything was sourced by found items and materials from the land. A true fairy cottage experience. It rained during our stay but that just made it extra special to us, falling asleep and waking up to the sound of rain drumming on the sheer roof, the bright greens of the forest...magical. We did the hot tubs and it was perfect. I really wish we could just go back for the tubs sometime..I would do that in a heartbeat! (Although realistically I wpuld probably also want to stay...lol) This was an all around peaceful experience and Andrea was so warm which made all the difference. I really hope we can come again and spend more time exploring the property. Thank you Andrea! -Vexx & Carly

Weekend Trip to The Hollow at Dynamite Falls

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful weekend camping here. Everything was perfect. It’s set far enough back in the woods that you really have privacy but it’s still convenient to get to your vehicle. It was so nice to unplug and be away from society. The views are beautiful the tent was very clean and set up comfortably. Host provided us with lots of information about the site and surrounding area and was very responsive. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Bent Apple Farm

This was the most beautiful spot for a summertime excursion to Vermont. We had a fire pit to ourselves, but also had access to a hot tub and communal fire pit (and sauna thought we didn't have time to try it). The cabin's large windows face a stand of trees and the sunset. The light coming through the windows is magical, especially in the morning. The soft blue fog in the trees and across the meadow is unforgettable. I imagine it's absolutely lovely in the winter too. We'll try to come back! The cabin was super spacious and charmingly decorated. The grill was clean and ease to use. The kitchen was mostly outfitted with useful utensils, appliances, and necessary items like soap and towels. I do have to say the lack of curtains (also mentioned in another review) in the bathroom is a problem. A rollup shade or gingham curtain wouldn't detract from the vibe. It was pretty quick to get back to civilization (10-15 min) to find a grocery or restaurant. There were occupants of the other cabins on the property but we only saw them in passing and they weren't close enough to bother us in terms of noise. A big thank you to the hosts!

Weekend Trip to Rooted Acres Farm

We really enjoyed our stay at Jerry’s Baby Bear Cabin! It was well equipped with everything we needed for a nice weekend. I thought it was the perfect blend of comfortable and rustic - being able to cook, shower, and sit by the fire outside and then retreat inside to the cozy cabin to sleep. We were grateful to come back to the cabin and take a warm shower and relax by the fire after a long day of biking!

2 nights at Mead Hill at Mount Cabot Maple

My husband and I visited Morgan’s yurt with our dog to hike and toast some marshmallows in August. The yurt itself exceeded our expectations - it let us titrate the rusticity of the experience. It had creature comforts if we needed them, but we could hear the crickets, the songbirds, the rain on the yurt, and we could wake up to stunning sunrises. The yurt is at the top of the property overlooking a lovely apparent wedding venue, then rolling green hills. The property owners let us know that children and dogs do come and go through the area overlooked by the yurt site, so if this would bother your dog (or you), this HipCamp might not be the best fit. We could also regularly hear the neighborhood dogs and ATVs, though it wasn’t oppressive. We were lucky to have the place pretty much to ourselves, and everything was so thoughtfully arranged. We so enjoyed watching the sunsets from the yurt’s campfire and from the seating area just a bit further up.

Loved the property and the surrounding area. Only disappointment was that the hot tub had malfunctioned and was out of commission, but the owners promptly remedied that by offering usage of the one at one of the other (unrented/occupied) units on site, which was satisfactory. Would highly recommend for a lovely getaway in a quiet setting.

We loved staying in Chapin’s tent. This was a beautiful campsite area. You get the whole place to yourself! And the river right there is so nice. The hikes and zip line were awesome! Will definitely book again!!

3 nights at Streeter Mountain Farm

Very calm and peaceful. Lovely view of the mountains during sunrise from the balcony, Josh is extremely hospitable and accommodating I was traveling alone and he made sure I felt safe and comfortable there the entire trip. A wonderful place for family couples are even just a solo trip to get out of your hometown. The farm cat were so cute and so friendly. As well as the farm dog. Many pollinating flowers with buzzing bees, nearby bugs, and birds will ease you to rest at night.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay! The site is truly spectacular with amazing swimming holes and stunning scenery. We used it as base camp for exploration of Roxbury and Warren on bikes. The wood fired hot tub was the perfect end to long days on bikes! The hosts have clearly put a lot of thought into a carefully designed woodland camping experience. What a spot to be able to explore!

Cliff was such an amazing host for us. He greeted us the moment we arrived and even showed us a few cool spots. Very knowledgeable, it was nice chatting with him. The hut itself was very big and cozy, had 2 great nights of rest. I recommend to everyone!!

4 nights at Tiny House, Horse Trailer, S Tent

My wife and just I spent 4 nights in the tent and loved it. We were right beside the river on a very private site surrounded by large trees. We expected mosquitos and other bugs but there were very few and none that bothered us. The staff we met were very friendly and helpful. Great swimming! Highly recommended!

what a lovely spot tucked away in some beautiful scenery! the walk up the hill is pretty brutal if you have to make several trips up to the tent, but worth it! would 100% come back, the swimming holes were cold but so refreshing!

Everything from check-in to check-out was a great experience. Donna and her team were welcoming, helpful, and easy to communicate with. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and has amazing views of the water and surrounding area. We especially loved how pet-friendly the property is—our dog felt right at home! There are plenty of opportunities to relax, explore, enjoy the water, and simply unplug. The property was well organized, and the detailed guide made it easy to know what to expect during our stay. We truly enjoyed our time and would definitely recommend it to other Hipcampers.

Where to go

Acadia National Park, Maine

Majestic trees meet Atlantic waters in Acadia National Park, a family-friendly nature getaway for campers of all stripes. From Hull’s Cove Visitor Center, you can take the park’s scenic drive to Sand Beach for a swim. Hikers can then enjoy the trek to Otter Point, which provides stunning views of the coastline, or take the Cadillac Mountain Loop hike. In addition to hiking trails, the park has numerous campsites and campgrounds available.

Cape Cod, Massachusetts

A great place for quiet beach camping, Cape Cod has options with rv sites, cabins, family camping and everything in between. Far from the bustle of Boston, you can find bike and kayak rentals along the cape, with some good options in Provincetown. Cape Cod National Seashore is a haven for adventure and play, and there are a few state parks with pristine beaches, including South Cape Beach State Park and Scusset Beach State Reservation.

Green Mountain National Forest, Vermont

Vermont’s Green Mountains are the perfect place to adventure any time of year, but in the warmer months, you can enjoy full service family campgrounds as well as tent sites. Granville State Forest has biking trails, while Savoy Mountain State Park has multiple camping spots and a lake for canoeing. The Appalachian Trail also stretches through a section of the Green Mountains, intersecting with Long Trail, if you’re feeling extra adventurous.

When to go

New England’s winter’s are famously harsh, so you’ll want to keep tent camping between May and October. Note that crowds will die down significantly once kids go back to school in early September, so keep in mind that you may have a better time (and a peek at some changing leaves) if you choose to camp in early fall.
