We love to pass our free time here in the sunshine and juniper drafts overlooking the Sierras. Some days we watch the electric storms across the valley, other afternoons we picnic and nap while listening to the birds and wind. We love the peace and silence, which feels remarkably remote and only 20 minutes from Reno.

We do not have trash collection services available and we ask all guest to practice a “leave no trace” philosophy.
**Because of extreme fire risk in our area we ask guests to refrain from having campfires for now. Welcome to Slate Mountain where you have access to 160 acres of gated, private wilderness with 360 degree mountain views and exclusive waterfront on Slab Creek.
There are two choices of sites to camp: At Site 1 you can park an RV or pitch a tent where you have access to a picnic table, fire pit, vault toilet, and amazing sunset views. At Site 2 you can pitch a tent and have access to a picnic table, fire pit, rocking chairs, and a hammock.
Bring your hiking boots or your off-road toys and explore 160 acres of secluded forest filled with wildflowers, butterflies, ancient Pines and Cedars, wild berries, and wild game. Spend the day relaxing, picnicking, and try your luck at gold panning on pristine Slab Creek where not a single human or road exists for miles. Bring your paddle boards and kayaks and spend an afternoon at Stumpy Meadows, a beautiful mountain reservoir a 25 minute drive from the property. Apple Hill wineries and farms are a 40 minute drive. If you bring the off-road toys you also have access to miles of trails throughout hundreds of acres of national forest. Don’t feel like cooking? Smoke on the Water restaurant at Finnon reservoir in Swansboro is a quick 20 minute drive from the property. If you need supplies, a nice restaurant, or a day of wine tasting to break up the grit, downtown Placerville and Georgetown are both a 45 minute scenic drive.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
1) To get the most out of your experience, we highly recommend a 4WD or vehicle, ATVs or eBikes.
2) The creek is at the bottom of the canyon, 1.5 miles from the gate at the entrance, and the road down is very steep and lined with blackberry bushes. We highly recommend an off-road vehicle/ATV or eBikes for easy access to creek.
3) Be aware you are in the middle of the forest and wildlife such as bear, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, and tics have been spotted on the property. Poison Oak is also common.
4) The property has cell service in the upper quadrant, however once you drop below the tree line toward the creek there is no service.
5) We highly recommend bringing a chainsaw or hatchet. There is an abundance of dead wood on the property that can be gathered for camp fires. Trees also occasionally fall on the trail which can impede access to the creek.

Camping here is low activity experience as in there is hiking up in the National Forest or just hanging out in your camp site, or bring your camera, notebook and binoculars, or road bike.
When you come to camp here you are on a farm in transition. Girlfarm has been a local food go to for restaurants, farm family members, and regenerative agriculture interests. Today, the farm is looking forward to a new course in agri tourism as we begin planning walking gardens, art installations in the landscape, and interactive classes.

Cute little cabin nestled in Tahoe National forest . This little gem is on an acre of land surrounded by national forest land. Close enough to Lake Tahoe to get to but also away from the Tahoe chaos.
Host lives on property , but will most likely be out and about most of the day. There are two neighbors but both own 20 acres so you can not see them, feels very private.
The front of the property where the cabin is located there will be some highway noise being close to highway 20 , especially during a busy weekend. you can’t hear highway noise while in the cabin and towards the back of the land.
However it is nice to be so close to highway 20 because it leads to several different destinations. ( west : Nevada city. east: towards Tahoe, and both directions there are soo many lakes/ rivers )
Tiny house: •Full sized futon downstairs and king sized mattress in loft. Electric fireplace, all the game boards , cards, chess, fire pit, projector for movies if requested!!!
•Additional guests are welcome to pitch a tent on the land if needed.
•Hot plate, toaster oven, mini fridge, kitchen appliances, coffee (French press, drip, mocha pot). Black stone grill outside. Fire pit , check if fires are allowed during booking
•Separate bathroom with compost toilet or a short walk to outhouse. Outdoor shower in the making, message if available.
FUN: •Lake Spaulding is about 1/4 mile hike down from the property. There is a boat launch and plenty of room to park it on the property if you want to bring a boat. Also have two paddle boards you are welcome to use.

Turn onto Rock Creek Road and travel 8.9 miles to Finnon Lake/Diner on the Left. The campground is behind the Diner.

Make a right on HWY 49 traveling north. Follow the above instructions.
Welcome to Finnon Lake Recreation Area!
The night skies above Finnon Lake will reveal stars unseen in California. Enjoy searching for bullfrogs, and watch the flock of Canadian Geese fly in right at sunset as the horizon blends into the watercolor sky.
This private lake supports the fire protection efforts of the Mosquito Fire Protection District and the firefighters of this community. Community volunteers manage the lake for the residents and the Fire Station.
The primary funding source for the Finnon Lake Restoration is the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, which was signed into law in 2004 with a mission to support “efforts that improve the environmental, economic and social well-being of the Sierra Nevada Region, its communities and the residents of California,” according to its Website.
Finnon Lake is also home to a popular 18-hole disc golf course and Mosquito’s only restaurant, Smoke on the Water Diner, which is open on weekends only.

This site was beautiful and I love the attention to detail - the table, chairs, etc were all such nice touches. The view is absolutely stunning. Keep in mind that the amazing view means that both the drive in and the wind are legit, so make sure you are properly equipped.

Finnon lake was great! Fire wood for sale, which made it very convenient, especially in our situation cause the car was packed! Clean bathrooms, and A2 was a big spacious site, would definitely recommend! Very nice people at the restaurant, and any questions I had they were very quick to respond on Hipcamp!

Site A1 Lakeside was an absolutely beautiful spot. A perfect surrounding view of the lake, with an accessible tree swing and accessible water directly on the site!
There was a lot of space and access to the lake, as well as nearby access to the disc golf course :) (which was a really nice nature walk)
The restrooms were cleaned often and the land was very well maintained overall.
** I highly suggest taking rock Creek instead of mosquito st , regardless of if you have a trailer or not. I found the ride home to be far easier and less scary than the drive up!**

It’s a beautiful area with lots of open space. I saw so many quail and other birds. Wendy brought over a fire pit and had wood available. It’s so quiet at night and is a far enough distance from the city to see lots of stars on a clear night.

3 nights at 4,000 Ft Closer to Heaven
The view from the cabin was striking. You can still see the fireline marking the western edge of the Caldor fire in 2021. Now going on five seasons afterward it is heartening to see the forest begin recovery. Sunset reveals the coastal range in the distance, then darkness brings out both the distant city lights and the stars overhead. It's quite a view. The cabin has a huge comfy bed and a breakfast nook, but we used the picnic table outside for meals. The weather was perfect. You don't expect a flush toilet at a hipcamp site, so that was a nice surprise! Had a very restful couple days that we needed so much.

Very clean campsite with several seating areas. At the top level you have adirondack chairs, a picnic table + couch. On the second level you have another set of adirondack chairs. On the third level, there is a platform you can set your tent on since most of the ground in the site is gravel. The last level is the beach area down by the water, we didn't go this far but I'm sure it's nice and perhaps there also may be seating down there as well. The campsite is exposed, besides the beach area which had a few trees, so make sure to bring an umbrella/shade/awning. There was a consistent breeze which was nice and kept things relatively cool. You have the entire site to yourself so my dog got to explore off-leash, you can hike all the way down to the water but it is pretty steep. The gate and the camera pointed at the gate kept things safe. The small town of Silver Springs is nearby if you need gas, bathroom or want some good diner food make sure to checkout 4 Corners Coffee. Sunrise/sunset was divine!

We loved our stay at the Shaded Walnut! We were coming from a long roadtrip and it proved to be just what we needed. We found in Ben a friendly, welcoming host and the site is a shaded spot with a good fire pit, a nearby outhouse, and well water pump. Yet the very best was the abundance of birds. We went to bed and woke up to bird song. Quite magical!

We loved the wine and laid back atmosphere. We were the only ones there and felt completely safe because there is a gate to the property. Aaron gave us the code so we could come and go as we wanted.

I found this campground on Hipcamp, because I needed a safe place to stay for the night, before heading over the Sierra. Holy smokes was it gorgeous! Wonderful birding, clean bathrooms and incredibly serene. I will definitely stay here again.

Beautiful place to camp. We only stayed 1 out of the 2 nights because the weather forecast mentioned a storm on Sunday.
But we loved it—clean bathrooms, and waking up to have breakfast in front of the lake was a 10/10 experience.
We will definitely come back; we didn’t get to enjoy the lake with paddleboarding.

Aaron's property is easy to navigate to and features a beautiful view of the vineyard. I was seeking to escape the Bay Area and had a gap in my schedule before my next assignment in Sacramento.
Aaron was not on-site when I arrived, but I had no issues finding the property and unlocking the gate with the instructions provided.
All sites are straight up the hill from the gate; in a small parking area for vineyard visitors and camping guests alike.
There are two clean and well stocked porto-lids on-site, then the glamping tent, the larger site and the single tent site. The camping area isn't huge but there is room for separation. This would be great for a small group, or a good way to socialize over a tasting.
Aaron is a one-man show and definitely knows his stuff. He arrived shortly after I had set up camp and was even willing to supply a tasting once he handled some business.
Great host, great conversation, great wine & cider! Jupiter is his vineyard black cat and is very friendly. The inside of the winery features an arcade and pool table, along with bottles of wine on display for purchase.
I purchased two bottles but chose not to indulge during my stay since the generous tasting portions already supplied a decent buzz.
Excited to return in the summer time and check out the river swimming hole Aaron mentioned.
I happened to leave my Cliq chair on the hillside and Aaron was prompt to grab store it for me.
*Campsites are in the treeline, bring bugspray!
