They are guaranteed to come closer if you have treats like carrots and apples slices. Our quiet county road used to be the main road along the river. A hundred years ago it was called "Shanty Road". The shacks that were along it housed workers that harvested food from farms in the river bottom. The only evidence of those shacks now is perrenial flowers growing in unusual places. The area is inhabited by professionals working in nearby towns and cities. In fact there are only five homes along our 1.5 mile section of Copps Chapel Road. The native Americans who used this area did so because of the great diversity of wildlife and availability of water. Also the view is amazing in all directions. Was using this ridge top encampment for security, or just because the view is so satisfying? The Missouri River is on the far side of the bottoms now, but has been very close historically. There is also a large spring flowing from a cave nearby. Witness the flint chips when you walk through our barn lot. You are likely to see a broken stone tool that was once worked on by a native American. These river hills are composed of soils blown in from the end of the last ice age. Being near the river, erosion has cut down the surrounding area making the scenic topography associated with Missouri River valleys and river hills.

1 night at Paradise Point RV Resort

I stayed here for one night during a three-day cross-country journey, and it was worth going a bit off the highway to be right on Lake of the Ozarks. Though I arrived late, the host responded immediately with access codes, making check-in seamless. The attention to detail at this property is impressive. Each site has a brick parking pad and picnic table, plus Adirondack chairs and a fire pit positioned to overlook the water. Even arriving after dark, I took a few moments to sit by the fire pit and enjoy the twinkling lights from the surrounding docks - so peaceful after a long day of driving. The restroom facilities were exceptionally clean and well-designed. Each one is completely private with its own sink, toilet, and shower, plus a bench and plenty of hooks - much more comfortable than typical campground bathrooms. The next morning before heading out, I walked around and saw ducks taking flight from the dock area. The property has beautiful amenities including a large shared fire pit, a kitchen/bar pavilion, and a pool. While everything was quiet in the off-season, I could easily imagine how wonderful this place would be during peak summer months. Highly recommend Paradise Point for a peaceful lakeside stop, whether you’re passing through or planning a longer stay!

Lovely family, a truly staggering number of chickens and all the horses are extremely, extremely polite and friendly. Loved that when we parked, there was a lovely horse immediately in view of our front window and the zoom class I had was made that much better with the singing of roosters! The farm-fresh eggs are well worth it, you get a mixed set of all colors: don't miss! Worth noting that the site can be muddy if it's rainy - it's right next to the barn and is typical of a barnyard - but we didn't find that to be a problem. It's nice and level and we had no difficulty getting in or out.

Shelby Farm was very relaxing and tucked away just far enough to feel the solitude with nature. No road noise, horns beeping, or distant sirens. Great spot to just sit back and take it all in. We loved tent camping out here on Lance's land, it was beautiful, the woods are lovely and secluded which is exactly what we were looking for. Lance is a wonderful host and very accommodating. We will definitely be back in the future for a longer stay, 5/5 stars!

Amazing views along with beautiful horses! I enjoyed my stay at the Shelby Farm Horse Retirement Stables! Such beautifully maintained grounds and an extremely nice host! Truly an amazing helper Johnny who was a life saver ❤️ we needed a jump and he was there to help! Doug and Brenda are very responsive and helped me get my questions answered swiftly! We really enjoyed our stay and especially felt at home. If your looking for a quiet place to camp with a beautiful view, come here! We can't wait to come again!

I live in a rural area and this is VERY RURAL, and that’s just fine. The hosts are very nice and accommodating. We could have stayed up top but wanted a view of the river so we braved the rustic trail to the secluded river spot. We both had AWD and were glad we did because it was a bumpy ride. However, totally worth it. The site faced west over the river and we got to see deer run across the low river and heard owls and coyotes. It was 100% primitive camping down there but we had brought water and a portable toilet so we were prepared. If you have a vehicle that can make the trek down and you don’t mind primitive and secluded, then this is a spot for you.

Very quiet and pretty place to stay! We got there very late and it was pretty easy to find. Easy for a class B RV to get to. Doug and Brenda were so nice and accommodating! There were other campers there, but it was still peaceful. Would definitely stay again!
