Welcome to the Detroit Lakes American Legion Campground, a unique destination that combines family-friendly camping with convenient access to the beautiful sandy shores of Detroit Lakes. Nestled within the city limits, our campground is just steps away from a mile-long beach, making it an ideal spot for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike. We offer a diverse range of camping sites to suit your needs, accommodating everything from tents to 43-foot RVs. Our facilities include 115 seasonal spaces and 33 transient sites, all equipped with essential amenities such as water, electricity, Wi-Fi, picnic tables, and fire rings. For added convenience, 10 of our transient sites feature sewer hookups, and clean restrooms and shower facilities are available in two locations throughout the campground. On-site, you'll find a well-stocked convenience store offering refreshments, ice cream treats, ice, and firewood. Families can enjoy our playground and gazebo, where parents can relax while watching their children play. The Legion lounge, located next door, serves breakfast and lunch daily, along with special steak fries on most Fridays. The lounge is open every day for those looking to unwind with a drink. Our campground is conveniently located just blocks away from a variety of bars, restaurants, and local attractions, ensuring that you have plenty of options

Great host, accomodating to our needs and arrival after dark. Sit was easy to navigate and park with minimal light. Noreen was incredibly sweet and super helpful for the next day forecast and best routes to navigate the next couple of days. Wonderful bread and eggs, perfect for a quick breakfast as we left at the crack of day for our RV service. Also wonderful nice dogs, was my morning walk around entertainment before driving off.

Beautiful spot with a huge barn you can relax in the game room, very unique! David and Logan were great hosts, enjoyed the visit, the Info and the apple crisp. Don't forget to go see the Dambo Trolls, 2 are very close.

Popular spot to back in trailer/camper…semi-secluded, view of the barn, cozy and content.

This was a perfect location to check out the troll hunt. Dave was friendly and helpful. The barn and it's inside it a great addition to the space. It was a cold night so we watched a movie in the barn! We would highly recommend this place.

Weekend Trip to Swan Lake Resort & Campground

Swan Lake Resort and Campground was the perfect escape for our family. From the moment we arrived, the peaceful atmosphere wrapped around us — quiet mornings with birdsong, calm lake breezes, and spacious campsites that gave everyone room to breathe. One of the best parts was the uninterrupted stillness during the day and especially in the evenings. Thanks to the thoughtful layout and generously sized slots, there was very little noise or commotion from neighboring campers, which made it easy to truly relax. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive — when my son crashed his bike, they didn’t hesitate to help with his wounds, showing genuine care that meant a lot to us. Their flexibility with boat rentals was also a gift; they rolled with our shifting plans and even a last-minute cancellation when the kids hit a moody streak on our final day. We loved the honor-system store, where you could grab a snack or drink from the fridge or shelves and simply jot it down for later billing. It felt like a place built on trust and community. And scattered throughout the grounds were these amazing tree carvings — almost like totem poles — that added a touch of rustic artistry and whimsy to the landscape. This wasn’t just a campground — it was a place where we felt cared for, connected, and free to enjoy the simple joy. We will definitely be going back.

Sweet teepee setup on private deck tucked in the trees. Close to porta-potty and community fire pit. Came with pillows, bedding, lights, electricity, fan, heater, and even a fly swatter. Host stopped by on 2nd day to remove leaves from deck. Hosts attentive and friendly.community spaces outstanding! Shared fridge/freezer and Venmo snack pantry. Perfect hip camp.
