Weekend Trip to Ranch Retreat Camping

To say that I had an absolutely amazing time would be an understatement, but I can find no other words that truly fit! I'd like to keep it a secret so I could always have it to myself! Big Trout Creek / Ranch Retreat Camping checked all my boxes. BEAUTIFUL surroundings, a quaint babbling brook, quiet, serene, clean, electricity, gorgeous sunrise, the list goes on. The only thing that would have made it better, is if I could have stayed longer.... and trust me, I honestly thought about calling in sick at work on Monday!! Jolene is the hostess with the mostess! My friend and I had the whole place to ourselves and we felt so welcome. I've never seen a place be more pristine and clean. Even the little porta potty was immaculate and actually smelled good! Lots of little extras topped it off... tiny lanterns in the trees that lit up at night, available firewood (only $5!), gorgeous landscaping, a nice porch on the shed to sit and play games, and much more. Bottom line....just GO!! I know I'll be back for sure (and I'll stay longer!). Georgie

We enjoyed our stay at the very peaceful land with amazing views around us. Our kids enjoyed the cows and sand pile with toys. I enjoyed the evenings watching as the lanterns scattered around the property began lighting up and the fireflies danced around. Just magical!

Creekside Camp is a beautiful, quiet spot to camp with some nice amenities. We enjoyed using their trail map to hike the red mowed trails- about a 40 minute round trip walk. The gurgling creek, bird song from such a variety of birds and fireflies made our campfire magical. Andy and Marla were communicative, kind and respectful of our privacy. The camp toilet was clean and appreciated.

Weekend Trip to Gilles Family Dairy & Woodland

What a special place! The campground was spacious and the wooden tent was luxuriously comfortable. The huge system of hiking trials was well-marked, well-maintained and beautiful, providing some wonderful scenic exercise to break up my solo weekend of quiet reading and writing. Fireflies, beautiful stars, friendly and very helpful hosts — what more could you ask for? Can't wait to come back with my husband.

Breathtaking campsites & outstanding hospitality. Host was excellent at communicating and Logan (on-site) was beyond helpful in getting us to our site & bringing us a cart to make the load-in a breeze. The sounds of the creek, the birds chirping, and the frogs were a slice of heaven. The compost outhouse was so clean and easy to access (far exceeded our expectations!). The spring water was a treat. We will be back and hope to extend our stay next time!

One of the best campgrounds we've ever been to! Definitely recommend. Lynn was very accommodating and patient with us when we arrived later than expected. The campsites are beautiful and very private, and I highly recommend getting assistance with the UTV ride, especially if you have a lot of stuff with you. We'll definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Brye Cabin and Bad Axe Camping

I had the most scenic and peaceful weekend tent camping at the Bad Axe Tent Site 1 and plan to come back again. Lynn was a lovely host, prompt and personable. The campsite was well maintained and had *everything* you could want aside from your tent and provisions; pack light! The listing does a great job stating everything available - read it thoroughly! There is so much provided. The site itself was huge and very private - I didn’t see another person till Lynn camp to pick me up for pack out. Tons of what I call “Disney Princess wildlife” - rabbits, chipmunks, deer, and birds. The paths to walk the property were well maintained and the property is large, plenty of room to wander. I definitely recommend utilizing the UTV assistance for pack in and out, the path is well maintained but very steep and rocky making it strenuous for novice hikers. The sky views were perfect for stargazing. If you like bird song, babbling brooks perfect for listening to and splashing in, expansive skies, no cell signal, and privacy, this site is for you. 10 out of 10 would recommend!

1 night at Quarry in the Mississippi Bluff

This is an unusual site in an old quarry. The night we spent there was very hot (high 90s) but the elevation and wind kept us from being too uncomfortable in our pickup truck sleep arrangement. It was very private with lovely trees, and a sense of safety with the surrounding bluffs. Highly recommended.

Beautiful location! Lots of shade. We were there during the heat wave so there were very few people there. However, it was lovely and quiet. + Well-maintained. They have a place to get fresh water. That's double filtered. The shower worked fine for me. On the men's side. Apparently the shower didn't work as well? But I put in 6 quarters and the shower was great. Remember Spring quarters. Great job on the conservation work by the way

3 nights at Quarry in the Mississippi Bluff

You're definately in a quarry and quarries are really cool! Its a great stay for a camper van, short walk up to a well kept swing overlooking the quarry and the Mississippi. Its very quiet and you feel very private but you're minutes from a winery and a short hiking loop: Apple Bottom something... and 15 minutes from Great River Bluffs State Park! La Crescent is close for restaurants and LA Crosse, WI is right there! Toilet was a clean and serviceable portable john and fire wood was available. Fantastic stay. Thank you!!!

Camped at the Bad Axe camping site 2 and it was a great. The host even gave us an extra cooler to use because they saw we had alot of ice that needed storage but we didn’t have enough. I highly recommend using the UTV service for easy travel from and to your site. Lynn was very nice and welcoming. We enjoyed sitting in the creek to cool off. The creek was clean and very nice to bathe/swim in.

Tai and Stella’s property is truly magical! From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect—clear directions, a stunning and secluded site, and a cool, refreshing stream that was exactly what we needed on the hottest day of the weekend. The outhouse was impressively clean, and the fresh spring water tasted amazing. This spot is a dream for bird watchers, so don’t forget your binoculars! But even if you’re not into birds, make sure to pitch your tent under the open sky—at night, the stars are breathtaking, and the fireflies put on an unforgettable light show. The whole property practically sparkles after dark. Tai, Stella, Logan, and Tria—the sweetest little baby goat—were all wonderful and welcoming hosts. They’ve created something really special, and I’m so grateful they share it. I can’t wait to come back!

Gilles Family Dairy & Woodland

Welcome ; Located in southeast Minnesota's Driftless region of hills, valleys, fields and forests, we are a grass based working dairy farm with over 100 acres of woodland, including an extensive trail system and campsites in our wooded acres. What makes this woodland special is it's quiet, secluded setting and over 6 miles of hiking / skiing trails. Our farmstead sits three quarter of a mile off the paved county highway on our well maintained gravel driveway. Each of our campsites are secluded from the others with their own sawdust compost toilets, picnic tables, fireplaces, and firewood. Two of our sites require 4WD with a minimum of 6 inches ground clearance to access, and two are accessible with 2WD. If you do not have 4WD we can help transport your gear while you enjoy the walk in. There are plenty of woodland birds, deer, turkeys, raccoons and squirrels sharing the woods with you. At night it is common for owls to visit the campsite area to say hello, and coyotes talking in the distance. The winding trails through 100 acres of woodland offer a variety of woodland habitats, from Old growth Maple to mixed hardwood, to dense brush, to the edges of open pastureland. Bring your fat bike or mountain bike for an enjoyable ride. For winter users there is a mix of easy, moderate, and challenging winter cross country skiing or snowshoeing / hiking on the property. However the Rock Bottom Cabin is our only heated and insulated site and is available for winter booking. Winter access is walk in only with snow on the ground or in the forecast. We can help transport gear. This property is part of a working pasture-based dairy farm and guided tours of the dairy and cattle are available when scheduling allows. Children 12 and younger are free at our campsites. No need to be counted as guests , but please let us know when requesting to book. We do not allow non-booked visitors to our campsites due to the secluded, remote location, and accessibility.

The English Pale Campground (21+)

The campground and rental house will opens about May 15, each year. The English Pale Campground and Resort is located along the Black River in Jackson County, 1 mile west of the Village of Melrose. The entire property only allows guests and occupants who are 21 or older. Sites/house can be booked 6 months in advance. The main campground is 70 feet above the river. We have 5 rustic (no hook-ups) RV/Travel Trailer/Tent sites, a fully furnished “Manor” House, a travel trailer as well as 2 rustic beach sites that are located along the river. The property is a total of 70 acres, which includes the 4+ acre beach, a mile of river front and trails through the woods that connect them all. The English Pale opened in 2021 and is a developing property. In late summer of 2025 an erosion wall will be built along the Black River. This will include clearing of a section of the forest, building a gravel access road and an riprap river wall to prevent further erosion. Since 2016 over 60 feet of the riverbank has washed away. Our property offers a reasonable expectation of privacy and we do not offer day passes as our target guests are campers. We are an adult only property, but not a nudist campground, as that is not our central theme. We do not prohibit our guests from nudity for the purpose of sunbathing on the beach, campsites or sundeck, but nudity is not allowed in general common areas. Part of our nature is allowing discreet nudity for tanning purposes. While we target couples for time together, singles and groups are welcome. Lost and Found Private Retreat

Hills and gulleys covered in trees , and trails that vary in difficulty and length. Benches to rest and Tent camping sites dot the ridge-top, surrounded by black raspberry bushes and young forest. Grilling, campfires, and yard games can be enjoyed in the central yard. The rustic bar and outdoor entertainment area may be used on request, though parties of any sort have a fee separate from the standard camping fee. Lots of wildlife to see, as well as the resident chickens, goats, and dogs. Responsible foraging and exploring off-trail is also allowed, have fun and find some cool mushrooms if that’s what you’re into! Bring a friend or dog, enjoy the secluded feel and the kind of quiet that is only found in the forest. This is a very private location. In its former life this property was a limestone quarry. Evidence of it's history remain with high rock walls on both ends of the property. In the center of the property is about 5 acres that is flat and covered with wildflowers and small trees. There are several good options for camping in this area. Surrounding this area is another 15 acres of hills and trees. We have a scenic overlook open to all guests where you can relax and sit on a wooden swing while enjoying the beautiful view of the Mississippi River below. There is a boat ramp just a mile down the hill for boating or fishing on the Mississippi and the city of La Crosse, WI and La Crescent, MN are each only about a five minute drive. West Fork Sports Club

Est. 1966, the West Fork Sports Club has been a special place for multiple generations of both local community members and people from across the country. Nestled in between two valleys with 3,500 feet of stream front property on the West Fork of the Kickapoo, we truly have one of the most unique campgrounds you'll ever visit. Having avoided glacial drift during the last ice age, the Driftless area boast beautiful valleys, bluffs and rolling hills that you won't find anywhere well in Wisconsin. We are an Environmental Conservation Club always accepting new members. A temporary membership is included in camping fees and goes toward environmental conservation work and maintaining grounds, free wifi, etc. Our 20 acre property boast 3,500 feet of stream-front class 1 trout fishing on the West Fork of the Kickapoo (a top 100 trout stream in the US). Our entire stretch of stream is fully improved and excellent to fish. We have a healthy native brown trout population. We work with a local school science program to raise and stock brook trout every year. We have resident Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, Oriels, Willow Fly Catchers, Hummingbirds and many other avian species. Nestled between two valleys, we frequently have stunning sunsets. We are far enough way from light pollution to easily see the Milky Way Galaxy on a clear night. The star gazing is amazing and if you keep your eyes up at night, you're pretty much guaranteed to see a shooting star, if not multiple. The West Fork Sport Club is truly a special campground. We're a short 15 minute drive from Viroqua which has a lot of great local shops, the Driftless Café (Owned and operated by Wisconsin Foodie host Luke Zahm) and a fantastic farmer's market. We're 25 minutes from Wild Cat Mountain which has extensive hiking trails. There are also two great vineyards within 15 minutes. Even on a rainy day, you will have plenty of fun options. ***Electric sites are not reservable through HipCamp.

Driftless Haven 125 Acres & Creek

Learn more about this land: The property is 125 acres, triangular in shape and bound by low-traffic township roads on two sides and by farmland at the back of the property. We have valleys with three ridges, total elevation is about 300 feet from low point to high point. We have two springs on the property that are the source for a small unnamed creek that feeds into Trout Creek and then the Kickapoo River. The property has walking paths in the grassy pasture areas in the valley (partially mowed), unmowed trails up and down the hillsides and on the ridges, and a high bluff overlook. We are between the towns of Soldiers Grove and Readstown, 2 miles from the Kickapoo River and US Highway 61 on paved roads. There are public restrooms with showers a 5 minute drive from site in Soldiers Grove, where there is also an RV dump station.
