The forest hut is a screened in platform that is lovely for camping on a warm summer's night. It has large windows and screens to keep out the bugs while enjoying a cool mountain breeze. There is a newly built composting toilet on site and small fire pit. This is not a cabin, no electricity, running water or plumbing. It is not well suited for winter camping unless you’re well equipped. BYO gear as there is not mattress or blankets in the shelter. Take a swim in the Ashfield lake 1 mile away or visit the enchanting Chapel Falls on Trustees land just down the road in Williamsburg. We have been the caretakers of this land and cabin since 2015, when we bought it from the builder of the modest cabin on-site, Steve. It is our family camp, but we love to share it with friends and fellow nature-loving campers. The land is partially wooded, and partially 'old field' that is slowly re-foresting through natural succession with some intentional interruption in order to introduce edible native trees and shrubs that are not naturally present. In this way the land is a slowly developing food forest and also a nursery for its plant-loving stewards. Learn more about this land: Escape the city and find yourself in this off-grid hillside cabin with a deck overlooking the Taconic mountain range. Wander through field and forest, and cool off in the nearby stream. The cabin has two rooms, and there is a kids playground and tire swing making this an appropriate family camping getaway. There is a solar panel providing indoor lights and phone charging capabilities, a fire pit with a grill, and a simple array of pots, dishes, and utensils. There is a spring-fed 55 gallon reservoir of potable water that will slowly refill as well. Though not far off the road, there is very little car traffic, and the surroundings are very peaceful. The din of the running stream is a constant, while the sounds of coyotes and owls can be heard at night. As the name indicates, the east-facing hillside is often witness to incredible moonrises, and the stars are always bright. Nearby Attractions: The Beer Diviner small-scale brewery and taproom is a stone's throw away from the parking area with a selection of tasty beer and some food options available. In addition to regular hours, there are special summer events, and live music every Saturday night. Cherry Plain State Park is a 'less-traveled' state park and campground just 3.5 miles up the road, offering lake swimming, boating, hiking and mountain bike trails. Other nearby outdoor attractions include: Williamstown MA, The Taconic Crest Trail, Jiminy Peak Resort, Hancock Shaker Village, and Mt. Greylock. Lovely cabin. Definitely would do it again when the appliances work. Bed was really comfy and kept us warm through the night. They have an electric heater, not a wood burning stove just fyi! Lots of ticks so stick to the grass path.

The Woods cabin was just what we were looking for. Directions were clear and Lindsay was an awesome host. Cabin was clean and comfortable, and we appreciated how there were things like soap/toilet paper/paper towels/firewood/extra blankets already there. Bed was very comfortable and we had everything we needed! Despite there being another cabin on the property, it’s far enough away that we felt like we had plenty of privacy. We’ll be back for sure!

4 nights at Moonrise Forest Camp

We can’t recommend The Dacha enough! We had a great time spending four nights with our pup cooking on the campfire, finding good throwing sticks, and swinging from the tire swing! The outdoor kitchen and view was just amazing! Inside the decor is simple but BEAUTIFUL you can tell that Andrew and Vickie have put so much time and love into this camp spot and it’s so amazing of them to share it with the world! ❤️ Just a heads up, there does seem to be a camp up the road. We never saw anyone but we could hear them playing horns and the bongos as well as singing everyday specifically at 8:45 pm on the dot every night. We’re not sure if this is an everyday occurrence or we just happened to stay at the Dacha at the same time as another event up the road. This would not deter us from coming back at all but did catch us off guard the first time that we heard horns in the distance lol. All in all we had a wonderful time and can’t wait to get back to the Dacha!

Weekend Trip to Forest Hut in Western Mass

We had a great weekend getaway in this cute forest hut! The hut and privy were stocked with everything we needed for a weekend. The town of Ashfield is also very quaint. The hut is fairly close to the Airbnb house, so if you're looking for an isolated stay in the woods, this may not be far enough from others as you'd prefer.

The cabin sits at the top of the meadow tucked against the trees.

3 nights at Forest Hut in Western Mass

Staying at the Forest Hut was a magical experience. The hut was cozy and romantic with the fairy lights, views of the light through the trees, and sounds of nature lulling us to sleep. The privy was clean and comfortable. Swinging in the hammock sipping coffee and reading a book was never better. Host is just lovely and her garden/apothecary made it extra special!

1 night at Foolhardy Hill

We had a great time here! The host Katie communicated with us via text promptly and clearly, with just enough frequency to keep us feeling like true guests. The facilities are all top quality, well thought out, leaving us with no want of cooking options, water, a wonderful fire pit and firewood (although we decided not to build a fire and turned in early instead) and comfortable seating areas including plenty of Adirondack style chairs. Bathroom/showers were spotless. Other guests were friendly and considerate. If in the Charlemont area again, we'd feel fortunate to have another opportunity to stay at Foolhardy Hill.

2 nights at Foolhardy Hill

Foolhardy is fabulous! The honors were very friendly and responsive. We usually camp at state parks but this time decided to rent a cabin. The cabin was very clean. And the mattresses were comfortable. We are very lucky to have the entire place to ourselves. The kitchen area is top notch and fully equipped with everything from pots to dishes to cleaning supplies.

Weekend Trip to Forest Hut in Western Mass

I loved staying at the kuti for a night! It was my first time camping totally solo and I felt very safe and secure at this spot. The land is beautiful, and I appreciated the things that were provided (picnic table, paper/matches for fire building). I got some awesome herbal products and eggs from the farm store. It was so quiet and peaceful at night. The composting privy was very neat and clean. It was perfect for a solo camp, and I could see it also being nice for a couple, parent-kiddo, or close friends. It felt spacious for just me but would definitely be tight quarters for more than 2 people. I’d love to come and stay again!
