5 nights at Berkshire Beech House

The Beech House was such an amazing place of tranquility and peace. It was the perfect getaway to be essentially off-grid, but without feeling far from essentials if/when needed. The lush forest surrounding the cabin provided a plethora of flora and faun - I loved falling asleep to nothing but crickets or the patter of raindrops, and waking to birdsong and sunlight trickling into the room. And the surrounding areas were readily accessible, and equally as scenic and picturesque. The heater worked great on a chilly night, or after a cold shower haha. It kept me nice and warm when I needed it. The river downhill was a nice place to dip my toes in on a hot sunny day, too. Michael was an exceptional host; he provided useful information and answers to any questions I had, both before and during my trip. Communication was simple, easy, and very responsive, which I really appreciated. 10/10 would recommend. Definitely a place I want to revisit!

Christian was very responsive in advance about answering questions. He greeted us, gave us a brief tour of the farm, and escorted is to our camp site. We had views of the mountain from our site. Sites are private, not stacked on top of one another. Trails on the property and you can connect to the state forest from this property. 4 minutes from the new visitor center and trailhead to various trails. It was a perfect location to camp before hiking and an amazing stay overall. We'll be back.

Our hosts were wonderful and I had a fantastic time with my kids (5 and 9). They loved watching the animals and playing in the woods. Our campsite was lovely and we were able to walk from our tent to the summit of Greylock - no driving necessary to access phenomenal hiking. They're already asking to go back! The only thing I wish I'd done differently was bring everyone a pair of waterproof boots. There were some muddy spots on the trails when we were there and of course the kids couldn't resist stomping right through them.

Weekend Trip to Atland Artist Residency

Gorgeous, secluded, woodsy serenity! I loved the outdoor shower, easy communication, charming decoration and thoughtfully placed amenities throughout the cabin and surrounds. I look forward to visiting again soon, hopefully for a much longer stay.

Weekend Trip to Berkshire Beech House

This place is a must stay! Gorgeous area with just the right amount of seclusion. We were only about 20 minutes from good food and Mass Moca while also having a wonderful time away in the forest. The A frame was cozy and filled with many extra amenities. I will be recommending this campsite to many many people.

Weekend Trip to Forest Hut in Western Mass

I loved staying at the kuti for a night! It was my first time camping totally solo and I felt very safe and secure at this spot. The land is beautiful, and I appreciated the things that were provided (picnic table, paper/matches for fire building). I got some awesome herbal products and eggs from the farm store. It was so quiet and peaceful at night. The composting privy was very neat and clean. It was perfect for a solo camp, and I could see it also being nice for a couple, parent-kiddo, or close friends. It felt spacious for just me but would definitely be tight quarters for more than 2 people. I’d love to come and stay again!

Weekend Trip to Art-Funk Forest Retreat

First off, the pictures do not do this cabin justice. This place is amazing. My entire family enjoyed all of the eclectic artwork and my wife was in heaven with the extensive collection of literature. The cabin was clean and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. The jacuzzi tub is a must to unwind. There's plenty of seasoned fireword for the stone fireplace and a collection of board games to enjoy. Outside we found hidden spots of whimsy with fairy lights and sculpture throughout the property. The host was very responsive and couldn't be more helpful. We would definitely recommend and will certainly be back.

We loved camping on Roxanne’s land. She was very responsive and helpful and the site was beautiful. We woke up to lots of birds chirping and a beautiful sunrise! Would definitely stay here again!

3 nights at Berkshire Beech House

A beautiful spot to go camping when you feel like having a solid roof over your head and a real bed! Speaking of beds, the one in the A frame was extremely comfortable, honestly one of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept on on a trip. If you’re just beginning to explore camping and haven’t quite acquired all of the tools you’ll need, or if you just don’t feel like bringing all of that stuff, the cabin is well stocked for a nice weekend trip. It was very peaceful and we heard lots of birds chirping every morning. North Adam’s is close by and it’s worth checking out the museum MASS MoCA if you’re there. We will definitely be back!

4 nights at Blueberry Orchard By The Pond

This was by far one of my favorite Hip Camps to date. If you’re looking for peace and quiet this is it. I had rainy weather so my regular hikes were canceled, but there are so many paths and rural roads to walk on in the woods around there. It was so nice to just be able to walk in the woods , right from where I was camping. The host brought warm, freshly made sourdough bread just as I finished my set up. Delicious! It made great breakfast sandwiches all week with his chickens eggs. Great add ons. I got the honey for my friend and she absolutely loved it. Great communication. Cell service is iffy, which I enjoy- I was able to walk to the end of the road to pick up my messages and texts, along with looking up what the weather was going to do. The spot where you camp with a RV is close to the road, but I think I saw three cars the whole week I was there and the rocks and trees pretty much keep you private. I am very sensitive to noise, and this place really fit the bill for being quiet.

You would be hard pressed to find a better camp site. No showers here, but our site was ample, with a nice table and fire ring. Other amenities are close by. Best of all, you have all of Mt. Greylock at your very doorstep. Less than ten minutes to town. And Christian is an affable and thoughtful host, responsive and welcoming.

1 night at Blueberry Orchard By The Pond

We had a wonderful stay at John’s blueberry Orchard. Incredibly private and quaint. The campsite is tucked back into the woods away from the road by the little pond and the Orchard and Sugar shack created a very sweet and romantic atmosphere. John was incredibly kind and responsive to messages and the coffee, honey, and sourdough bread or to die for. Absolutely no trouble with wildlife whatsoever. With 100% stay here again.

Where horses and wagons would stop to off load part of their load to continue up the hill. They would return to pick up the rest and continue on. Since inheriting the farm, we have moved towards sustainable farming. We follow grass fed measures while raising our sheep the poultry free ranges to control the flea and tick population on the farm. Our vegetables are grown organically. We harvest only what is needed to heat our home from the forest leaving under growth alone. Wequamps Haven Mountain View Site

Welcome to Wequamps Haven in South Deerfield, with one of the nicest views of Mount Sugarloaf and North Sugarloaf Mountain, which together form the body of Wequamps of the local native legend. We have one camper site available, located on the edge of our 40 acres of protected land. Your site is on the old farm road near open, farmed fields, behind a well settled neighborhood near downtown. It is out of site of the main road and most neighbors, but still close to all the amenities in town. Half the acreage is flat, tillable land currently farmed by local farmers. The rest is pasture and woodland located on the hillside, abutting state park land which is part of Mount Sugarloaf Reservation. The view of the mountains and open farmland is beautiful at any time of year and the hillside pasture is a great place to watch the sun set over the valley below. It is the perfect site if you want a quiet, peaceful place to relax without going too far from civilization. Since it is an in-town location, it is easy to get to, close to I-91 and Routes 5&10. We are centrally located between Northampton, Amherst and Greenfield, which are all a short ride away, along with all the restaurants and attractions they have available. There are plenty of places nearby to walk, hike, bike, fish, kayak and swim so you can take full advantage of all the region has to offer. You may see rabbits, groundhogs, deer, opossum and numerous birds on the property. We have a resident red-tailed hawk and often spot pileated woodpeckers. You may occasionally hear coyotes or owls in the distance. Feel free to stroll the old farm road or enjoy our large backyard and covered patio which are areas we are happy to share as common spaces with our guests. Explore the lush Pioneer Valley or the many hill towns in our cozy western Mass. mountain ranges for all the farm stands, antique shops, historic sites or outdoor activities you could possibly hope for within easy reach. There are too many wonderful sights to see to list here but let us know your areas of interest and we’ll be happy to help you find them. We will provide a small picnic table, trash can and recycling bin. A small fire pit will also be provided with plenty of firewood available for purchase and potable water can be accessed from the garden hose. Come and recharge mentally and physically in serene and calming surroundings or fill your plate with local foods, sights and activities.

Hickory Ridge

Our property is 85 very private acres with an open field surrounded by forest and open wooded area with many trails. The forest is very diverse including some old growth maples and birches, as well as hemlock and pine trees. The campsites are at the edge of the field set back into the woods. I have recently added sand and gravel to improve drainage since the heavy rain we have had last year. We have a portable composting toilet outhouse and a hot outdoor shower. Feel free to explore all of the trails on foot or mountain bike. You may see some turkeys or deer out there. There is a small pond with lots of frogs and salamanders near the camping area, and a few seasonal streams on the property. You can hike a one mile loop on our newest trail. It is medium difficulty because of the hillside it is built on so hiking boots are recommended unless you are on a mountain bike. Rock walls built in the mid 1800s circle the property almost entirely so the borders are easy to see. The Deerfield river is a few miles away where you can fish for trout or go for a swim or kayak. The Connecticut river and the green river are about 15 minutes away as well. We have tubes, a canoe, and a kayak that are available to rent for some floating! Historic Deerfield village and Yankee Candle store and factory are about 10 minutes away. We are about 20 minutes from Northampton and Amherst.

Forest Hut in Western Mass

There is a newly built composting toilet on site and small fire pit. This is not a cabin, no electricity, running water or plumbing. It is not well suited for winter camping unless you’re well equipped. BYO gear as there is not mattress or blankets in the shelter. We have a small farm store near the road filled with herbal teas, tinctures, gifts, chicken eggs, soaps, maple syrup and ghee. Take a swim in the Ashfield lake 1 mile away or visit the enchanting Chapel Falls on Trustees land just down the road in Williamsburg. Sweet Birch Herbals is a community herbal company offering workshops, apprenticeships, wellness consultations and hand crafted products including Full Moon Ghee. We grow organic herbs and ethically forage plants for medicine. Request a farm tour, herbalism class or any of our products for your stay here. New England’s quintessential state, Massachusetts is chock-full of outdoor opportunities. Whether you go camping close to Boston or explore RV campgrounds in the state's west, you can't go wrong at a Massachusetts campground. Try an RV resort to experience the best of Cape Cod, or if you prefer freshwater to saltwater, rent a tent campsite at a state park to unwind. History buffs will want to spend some time south of Boston to hike around Plymouth and other historic towns.

Where to go

Cape Cod

Beaches along Cape Cod come in all sizes and styles, from the romantic to the family-friendly. Family camping thrives in the area. Drive your RV to Scusset Beach State Reservation on the southwest edge of Cape Cod Bay. If glamping is more your speed, head to Falmouth, Martha's Vineyard, or Nantucket for a getaway along the Atlantic Ocean.

Plymouth

Stop in Wompatuck State Park en route to the Pilgrim Memorial State Park. The latter is a must-stop for United States history enthusiasts, while campsites in Myles Standish State Forest offer everything. Tent and RV campgrounds come with access to hiking trails, as well as opportunities to ride horses, bike, and sail. In the snowy months, you can even snowmobile or cross-country ski.

Salisbury Beach State Reservation

North of Boston, Salisbury Beach State Reservation sits between the Atlantic Ocean and the Merrimack River. RV parks come with electric and water hookups, while the gorgeous purple sand beaches of Plum Island are just a stone’s throw away.

Inland Massachusetts

The coast gets all the credit, but Massachusetts is more than its beaches. Inland, you’ll find the Quabbin Reservoir, which boasts beautiful views and trails. Head further west, and you’ll encounter Peru State Forest or Granville State Forest, where surrounding campsites are a hiker’s dream.

When to go

When it comes to New England camping, it’s a safe bet to seek out the summer weather. However, popular places like Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard are often crowded in the summertime. So if you prefer seclusion to the sun, book your rental in the shoulder-seasons. You may not be able to swim, but there’s never a bad time of the year to gaze at the ocean.
