Judy was born in a little cabin just down the road. Judy & Don along with many family members have made cherished memories here over the years. We want to share its beauty with you and your family. Please consider, Clayton Geneva is a primitive campground, gravel drives and left as natural as possible. This is not a sculpted campsite or a concrete campground. The primitive area is as such, gravel, grass, sand terrain accessible by a one lane gravel drive that leads over the hill and around the cliff to the riverbank. This drive is absolutely passable however is left bumpy to keep traffic at a safe speed as pedestrians also walk the drive. It is passable by any vehicle as long as the vehicle is not overloaded beyond its ability and/or has an extremely low profile. Any area that is not an actual campsite is left to nature, not manicured, trimmed or sculpted. As you’ll find all the sites are clear please don’t expect micromanaging of wild growth of our native plants in areas around the sites as we reserve those areas for the wildlife to enjoy. Please consider all the above mentioned details, primitive campsites are not for everyone and that’s ok.

ATTRACTIONS: Goldenrod Gap is a peaceful refuge nestled in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, in Menifee County minutes from Red River Gorge, Natural Bridge, Cave Run Lake, Broke Leg Falls Park and the Sheltowee Trace Trail. The sites are newly developed and being added to frequently. As you enter the camp you will cross a bridge and are welcomed by two majestic hillsides onto the 35 acre property. These hills have a variety of trails from rustic to groomed, which are open to foot traffic only. On the trails you will find many species of vegetation and natural resources, which range from easy, moderate to strenuous, distances vary, short hikes take minutes. A few hikes take longer and have more strenuous terrain. There are native trees, which includes Tulip Poplar, (the Kentucky state tree), giant oaks (hundreds of years old), several variety of pine trees, holly, hemlock, beech, ironwood, sassafras, box elder and maple. Take a walk, take pictures and bring a picnic lunch. In the summer there are beautiful flowering goldenrod, and many pollinators and addition forest wildflowers all year. These pollinator magnets definitely lure numerous birds and insects for your viewing pleasure. There are beautiful rock ledges to enjoy as well. CAMPSITES: #1 The RV campsite is easily accessed from the highway and includes water, electricity, septic dump station, shower, restroom and high speed internet. Cross over the bridge, entrance is limited to shorter trailers under 30 feet. Turn left and cross over a small creek and arrive at your site. Park in the designated area. Video surveillance is on site. Two sites are available on a scenic overlook with an outdoor toilet nearby. Site #2 has a furnished Whiteduck 16' bell tent and site #3 is a rustic area and your choice of spot. Stop in after a day on the trails, cliffs or Cave Run lake in the area. Pitch a tent and sleep under a display of stars, especially if you are on the ridgeline. This ecological art project is currently recruiting visitors to camp in beautiful fields, on woodland rim sites, or at delicate campsites located along a system of woodland trails. As of 2026, camping here provides a glimpse into the 5th year of succession, which is characterized by spacious views of a gently rolling young prairie that is flanked by the rocky and steep slopes of a mature forest. Pet friendly and most likely a good fit for self-sufficient types that like campsites with generous spacing, but still want to get out to the park quickly (~7 miles to the Visitors Center) or travel into Cave City (3 mi) for coffee/ice-cream/pizza/barbecue/bar/food/etc. Expand from the campsite into a sketch-work of trails, as if camping near the headquarters of a satellite nature reserve. All sites except Spicebush have a filtered water output. Spicebush campers will have water access next to parking. Camping funds allow us to plant trees (~530 seedlings as of March 2026), establish prairie grasses and flowers, restore wetlands, create trails, and remove invasive species. A nice way to experience Mammoth Cave NP is to break the trip into 3 layers, covering the underworld (cave tours), upper world (hiking), and the water that connects the two (Green River). Mammoth Cave is unique in the way that a study of the underworld will repeatedly draw the mind into a creative space where we imagine what is beneath the surface and how these worlds are linked, while above ground hiking on land or kayaking on the ecologically rich and biodiverse Green River. Kayaking the Green is elemental; like unplugging from one world, pure nature immersion. We offer kayaks (see extras), that leave from camp, tailored to your schedule. Thanks to our visitors for supporting this type of project! Most commonly booked extras: 1. Dried and split firewood bundles, usually a mix of oak with a suggested donation of $6/bundle, delivered to the campsite. 2. Kayaks on a suggested donation basis ($45) providing a flexible option for visitors to float the Green River through the NP. 3. Pending availability, we are happy to pitch a tent (REI 4 person Half Dome plus 2 sleeping pads) for those who want to camp but are not traveling with gear.

This place is my new favorite campground! Both Patrick and Angelica are very hospitable and even let us set up camp closer to the river than the site we'd originally booked! The campground is well maintained, but still gives the 'untouched natural beauty' vibe we were looking for. The night skies are just GORGEOUS and I truly cannot say enough nice things about our hosts. We opted for a costa rican breakfast the morning of our departure and I've got a new favorite snack(cinnamon sugar fried plantains!) This campground is close to national parks and plenty of outdoor activities- we're going to have to come back and explore more, because 4 days was not nearly long enough!

Weekend Trip to Serenity Camp

This was our first Hipcamp experience and now that we have done it once we can’t wait to go again! I definitely preferred the remote sites to the one that was right up close to the road that had a full hook up. It was private and our kids absolutely loved it. Fishing, campfire, exploring serenity Falls. It doesn’t get much better! Navigating could be a little confusing at first, so don’t hesitate to reach out to the owner to get more specific information.

RV spots are new and need some time to mature but the area is wonderful and the scenery is great. Know that the trip in is an adventure on roads that are KY narrow and bendy. Gravel drive might require 4WD for heavier rigs. BUT, worth the effort.

This is a very well kept property with up to 3 sites with hookups. On site bathroom access is in an unoccupied house. Lots of space for dog play. Owners are very hospitable and accommodating.

this place was nice, it seemed a little more set up for tent camping but that didn’t bother us! the hot tub was incredible, however it was set to 95 at one point which was honestly kind of tepid and not very enjoyable. i would have changed the temp but they asked us not to adjust it. that also wasn’t a big deal, just kind of a bummer. the hookups were good, the spot to park in was definitely not level so you would need to level your rig if that’s something that would bother you. we found it easy enough, as other campers have mentioned it is a little rough driving in due to the steep hill and gravel driveway. just be careful! all in all this place was a good spot to park for a couple nights and recoup on our 3 week road trip. we would recommend! thank you!

We loved our RV site at The Retreat, it was perfect for our family and pop up camper. The area was quiet and the restroom was nice and clean. Dave was helpful and quick to answer any questions. Overall great experience!

Our group included a set of grandparents and a family of 4 with two toddlers. This was a private campground in a quiet area. Some campsites had electrical outlets that were not compatible with our setup, but we located ones that were. There was a play area for the kids with a bit of play equipment suitable for different age groups, and a horseshoe pit. The resident dogs were friendly and visited our sites each morning. The owner was friendly and helpful and made sure we were settled in and had what we needed. If you are looking for a quiet out-of-the-way campsite, not too many frills but all you need for a fun camping experience, as opposed to more modern, bustling camping experience, then this quaint campground is for you!

We loved staying at Dave’s land. The RV site had everything we needed for our stay. We arrived in our class A Winnebago 25’. Campers should be aware the roads leading to the campground are narrow, winding, steep and not well marked. The stone drive way into the camp is narrow, steep (downhill) and bumpy. Other than these few shortfalls, we had a good experience for your days. Thanks go to the owners for keeping the campgrounds clean, well laid out, and private.
