Please consider, Clayton Geneva is a primitive campground, gravel drives and left as natural as possible. This is not a sculpted campsite or a concrete campground. The primitive area is as such, gravel, grass, sand terrain accessible by a one lane gravel drive that leads over the hill and around the cliff to the riverbank. This drive is absolutely passable however is left bumpy to keep traffic at a safe speed as pedestrians also walk the drive. It is passable by any vehicle as long as the vehicle is not overloaded beyond its ability and/or has an extremely low profile. Any area that is not an actual campsite is left to nature, not manicured, trimmed or sculpted. As you’ll find all the sites are clear please don’t expect micromanaging of wild growth of our native plants in areas around the sites as we reserve those areas for the wildlife to enjoy. Please consider all the above mentioned details, primitive campsites are not for everyone and that’s ok.

This ecological art project is currently recruiting visitors to camp in beautiful fields, on woodland rim sites, or at delicate campsites located along a system of woodland trails. As of 2026, camping here provides a glimpse into the 5th year of succession, which is characterized by spacious views of a gently rolling young prairie that is flanked by the rocky and steep slopes of a mature forest. Pet friendly and most likely a good fit for self-sufficient types that like campsites with generous spacing, but still want to get out to the park quickly (~7 miles to the Visitors Center) or travel into Cave City (3 mi) for coffee/ice-cream/pizza/barbecue/bar/food/etc. Expand from the campsite into a sketch-work of trails, as if camping near the headquarters of a satellite nature reserve. All sites except Spicebush have a filtered water output. Spicebush campers will have water access next to parking. Camping funds allow us to plant trees (~530 seedlings as of March 2026), establish prairie grasses and flowers, restore wetlands, create trails, and remove invasive species. A nice way to experience Mammoth Cave NP is to break the trip into 3 layers, covering the underworld (cave tours), upper world (hiking), and the water that connects the two (Green River). Mammoth Cave is unique in the way that a study of the underworld will repeatedly draw the mind into a creative space where we imagine what is beneath the surface and how these worlds are linked, while above ground hiking on land or kayaking on the ecologically rich and biodiverse Green River. Kayaking the Green is elemental; like unplugging from one world, pure nature immersion. We offer kayaks (see extras), that leave from camp, tailored to your schedule. Thanks to our visitors for supporting this type of project! Most commonly booked extras: 1. Dried and split firewood bundles, usually a mix of oak with a suggested donation of $6/bundle, delivered to the campsite. 2. Kayaks on a suggested donation basis ($45) providing a flexible option for visitors to float the Green River through the NP. 3. Pending availability, we are happy to pitch a tent (REI 4 person Half Dome plus 2 sleeping pads) for those who want to camp but are not traveling with gear.

Our remote 375 acres part farm and part natural woodland nestled up to Daniel Boone Forest is ideal for hikers and nature lovers. There are several hiking trails onsite and plenty of woods to explore. ATVs or side by sides are welcome to be used on the main gravel roads and some designated areas of our property. There is plenty of wildlife but NO hunting is allowed. Some of our designated tent sites do have firepits and/or picnic tables. Our trek in sites do not have those options. Pets are welcome for $10 per pet/per booking and they do need to be leashed/under control at all times. This is an extra so please be sure to add that if you plan to bring your pet. Please pick up after them. We are a short driving distance from West Liberty, Cave Run Lake, Grayson Lake, Carter Caves, Morehead, Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge. We are approximately 20 minutes from the nearest store so you'll want to come prepared. We are located in West Liberty (Morgan County). There are 2 centrally located bathhouses with toilet, shower and sink and a hose for potable water. We have firewood for sale for $20 per stay and is an extra option when booking(use what you need during your stay and it is centrally located near bath houses) you can bring your own and you are welcome to gather from the surrounding area but please do not cut down any living trees/limbs. There is a centrally located community building with a Wifi hotspot, streaming TV, Keurig, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster/air fryer, swing set, foosball table and darts.

30 years ago this was a pay lake it has been shut down for years. I got it a few years ago for a family getaway. So there is some really nice fish in the lakes. Weekend Trip to Camp Escape

We stopped here for our first night of our road trip, it was nice! No frills, just a nice basic spot to spend the night. There was a very large area to set up our tent, and it had a fire pit which is always nice. It was very quiet except for a train that goes by sometimes but we had earplugs so it didn’t bother us. I’d totally stay here again if I’m in the area! Love from Chicago! <3

Weekend Trip to Hidden Lake Farm

Wow! A total gem, I was blown away, the private lake, rolling green hills, immense amount of acreage, walking trails everywhere. Host is really chill and helpful with any questions. I had an awesome private spot right on the lake, my own little place of peace. I highly recommend this Hipcamp, it’s the best one I’ve been to. I’ll definitely go back.

1 night at Away at Green Hill

I loved my overnight stay at Away at Green Hill! The property was beautiful, and had a remote feel without being too isolated. There are multiple sites, perfect for families or an individual getaway. I enjoyed the trails and log cabin. The host was very attentive and easy to reach. Will definitely be back!

1 night at Away at Green Hill

The site was nice and secluded. There was a nice area to play in that our son enjoyed that had a trampoline and some other games. Overall it was very enjoyable.

View from end of other campsites- Sycamore Cove is at the end where the vehicle is parked. Such a beautiful area!

Weekend Trip to Clayton Geneva Memorial Camp Ground

Such a beautiful, quiet location right on the water. All of the sites are maintained well along with the amenities. There’s a porta potty near the campsites themselves and then a small bathroom/shower room a little up the drive on the main property. I know the site areas have a history of flooding easily since it’s right on the water, luckily I had amazing weather while there and I know I would have been accommodated on the upper land area if need be!

Weekend Trip to Beardsnest

Easy to find, and super close to most of the attractions we saw at the National Park. I recommend purchasing the firewood bundles. It’s convenient and you’re not moving firewood, which promotes their restoration project. Although the site is mostly primitive (you do have potable water), it feels inviting with the stone fire ring, two chairs waiting on you, and manicured paths. The field is scenic and serene. Far enough from other sites, it feels like you’re the only ones there even if you’re not. Kevin was responsive and hospitable. Both mornings a pair of geese flew directly over the campsite at dawn, honking as they passed. We could also hear turkeys, chickens, and songbirds. Kevin is full of advice, so be sure to ask him if you need local tips.

We stumbled upon The Kilns when our original camping plans fell through. Miss Kim and Scott are two of the nicest people you could hope to meet. Everything was clean and orderly and the free firewood was a huge plus. We'll be back!

3 nights at Possum Ridge Ranch

We had a great time! The place is well taken care of. There are so many hiking trails to explore. The best part was how secluded it is and peaceful. We got to enjoy nature. The whippoorwills were especially delightful.
