Amazing 150' tall limestone cliffs rise above river and several spring fed creeks feed into the river. There is hiking galore in the canyons or on the cliffs, fishing in the rivers, or bird watching on the native prairie above the cliffs. Fossil hunters can find a variety of fossilized shells, as well as native septarian and calcite for the rockhounds.
Our picturesque, secluded campground has primitive and powered campsites, plus several glamping tent, all dispersed along an amazing horseshoe bend of the Saline River, each with direct river access. We're only a 20 minute drive north of Hays, Kansas and I-70, come visit us today!

Staff does live on the farm, we do lock gates at night, you can have access to come and go at any time. If you need gates unlocked, we are just a phone call away.

1 night at Wild Rest Sanctuary
I recently stayed at Wild Rest Sanctuary upon entering the property I felt like it was transported into another world as a entered the forested road that provided a sense of wunderlust anticipating what was around the next curve. It felt like I was driving backwards in time into nature. I imagined Hansel and Gretel following the trail of bread Crumbs through the forest. Upon arriving at the meadow and first setting eyes on the amenities, I imagined a medieval camp prepared for a king seeing the majestic tents and yurt. Some of the highlights that I experienced during my stay were watching the stars at night smelling the floral scent wafting on the heavy summer air. It felt like I was living in poetry. Other highlights were the well-appointed tents prepared with all amenities needed bed, and bedding, storage, lighting fans. I especially loved how user-friendly the booking website was, as well as all of the items that you could choose from, such as kits for making s'mores and optional Wi-Fi, although that was the last thing I wanted as I was enjoying my escape from civilization. The shower facilities were excellent, especially for an off-the-grid sanctuary. The host Christina was so accommodating and inviting. You could definitely see her passion for her vision of this sanctuary and it showed in her desire to provide everything needed to each person's individual desires. She has that unique magnetic personality that can't help but leave you smiling.

We were moving cross country with two equines and I needed a little extra help getting settled at our campsite. This place was awesome. Very easy to pull in and set up. The paved area might look too "suburban" at first but it is very close to paths to the lake, kayaks and floating stuff as well as courses for bikes (provided) and casual walks!, is also well insulated from the road and traffic noise The area was level and we were within 0.25 inches both side to side and front to back with almost no adjustments!!! There are curbs in each pull thru lane so make sure you have your props/stilts for your drainage lines but it was very easy and very convenient set up. Check in and check out was all electronic booking thru Hipcamper so very easy in and out! The lake is large enough to enjoy kaying/paddling and clean enough to jump in. Easy rock launch pad for the kayak and canoes as well. The bathroom and showers were clean (though we didn't use due to full RV hook up) and easy to access from the camp sites. There is a game room with billiards and other stuff to keep teens occupied. It is a very short trip to town where there was shopping and the weekend we were there, happenings downtown to add to the appeal. Overall this park was incredibly easy, convenient, clean and a real pleasure. We feel fortunate to have discovered this place and hope to return here often. We were RV full hook up but the cabin sites were super cute and looked amazing regarding location to water, spacing between sites for privacy etc. I would full on return in my camper or if looking for a Cabin getaway! Great place!

What a fun place for families! Bill and Nancy have created a wonderfully welcoming place for campers with kids to play and connect in nature. Loved our stay in the hippie van. Hope to be back soon!

Group trip
Super easy to find. Chad met us at the entrance and took as to the site. Site was clean and well kept. We added on the burger dinner and were not disappointed. Highly recommend!

I have camped at Amy’s base camp several times and never disappoint. She keeps the grounds in excellent condition. Plentiful shade and showers were wonderful and clean restroom . Will come back again. Thanks Amy! Team Fohty.

My kids, dog, and I had a great time tent camping at Atlas Ad Astra! Seeing what Matthew has done to clean up and improve the property and old Atlas launch facility after it had been basically abandoned for 50+ years is truly amazing. We all enjoyed a tour of the facility before packing up our campsite. Matthew is knowledgeable and was a great guide explaining things and answering lots of questions from my son. We look forward to staying here again on our next trip through Kansas!

1 night at Fun Family Farm - Overview
I fell in love the minute we arrived, not only was the VW bus even cooler than the photos, it was parked next to a pasture with cows! Being a farm girl I couldn’t wait to go swimming in the pond and explore the property. I appreciated Jacques the dog keeping me company by being my swimming and walking companion. My daughter liked the comforts of the hippie bus (AC, electricity, lights, etc). Bill and Nancy were very welcoming, I can’t wait to go back!

Eastern Kansas’s Metro Areas and Lakes
Head out from the state’s main population centers, including Topeka and the Kansas City metro, to find gleaming lakes amid the grasslands. Several popular state parks are found in this region, including Clinton Lake State Park, Perry State Park, and Tuttle Creek State Park. Combine your camping adventures with boating, fishing, and biking.
Hills, Prairies, and Cities of Central Kansas
True to its reputation, Kansas is a land of vast prairies. The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve protects a tiny remnant of the 170 million acres of prairies that once covered North America, and the Flint Hills provide some of the state’s most dramatic landscapes, with jagged ridges rising from the grasslands. For scenic lakeside camping, the Army Corps of Engineers operates campgrounds on Council Grove Lake and the Marion Reservoir. Eisenhower State Park and El Dorado State Park are welcoming options with grasslands and woodlands. Many private RV parks are also found near Wichita and along Interstate 70.
Western Kansas
Dodge City is practically synonymous with the Wild West. Where outlaws fought on dusty streets now stand a number of museums telling wild tales of Wyatt Earp, cattle drives, and bygone days. To explore the landscapes of the high prairies, head to the Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park and the Cimarron National Grassland, which protects over 100,000 acres. Camping in western Kansas includes a cluster of RV parks near Dodge City and other towns in the region, particularly along Interstate 70. Share the land with a prairie dog colony by camping at Prairie Dog State Park or camp lakeside at Cedar Bluff State Park, which has a unique BMX track. Escape the prairies to find Historic Lake Scott State Park, which is home to deep canyons, woodlands, and towering bluffs.
