Danika and James are fantastic hosts, the best! The peninsula site was very spacious and well groomed. Surrounded by water and lots of wild life. So many different species of birds, deer, beaver. Danika and James care about tent campers and made this Peninsula just for us. It was quite refresinf not to be set up against a huge RV. The site is so spacious you are far from campers next to you. I will be back for sure.

Amazing hospitality from the host. A beautiful piece of land with a lovely night sky. The farm fresh eggs are a great addition. Spots are secluded enough to have some privacy but allow easy access. Host was very easy to work with and respond to all my questions with delight! Definitely recommend and will likely be back.

I had a great time at Millbrook. The views were really wonderful, a clear, pebbly creek, footbridge, wooden train tracks, meadows, and of course horses. I found the site easy to locate and I felt safe. Meredith was quick to respond and help when a small issue arose.

Nice cabin, very clean, very secluded. We enjoyed listening to all of the different birds while making meals on the excellent firepit. Definitely check out the hiking trails and of course, the goats and other animals were wonderful.

This was a very unique and special experience! The horses are very friendly and will come right up to you to say hi. The host was very easy to work with and made the process of getting there seamless and simple. We would definitely return!

3 nights at East Woods on the IL River

We've stayed at Katie's property many times now, and it's always such a great time. We already have our next trip booked for July! A quick word of advice about setting up camp on the west edge of the pond (like near the rocky areas): if it is going to rain at all, prepare as if it's going to flash flood. Try to get everything off the ground that can't get wet, don't just put it under a canopy. There was very little rain in the forecast for us, but it ended up torrentially downpouring for about 90 minutes. We went into the car because of heavy lightning, so we didn't notice that a stream was running straight through our camp! By the time the rain slowed, the area under and around our canopy was like 3+ inches of water and mud. We spent several hours trying to get many things to dry, and fortunately, nothing was ruined. We still had an awesome time, and the weather ended up being beautiful.

We loved tent camping at Hungry World Farms! The land was beautiful and everyone was very friendly. I could not recommend the tour more, we learned so much and love seeing the animals. The wood fired pizza was so delicious. We will definitely come back to see all of the changes and upgrades Sam is putting into the farm!

Weekend Trip to Heated Tents & Cabin: Farm Animals

We have nothing but good things to say about our overnight getaway to Hungry World Farm. We got to stay hi to the animals (including playing with all the adorable baby goats), enjoyed a foot bath in the creek, watched the sunset over the ridge while we cooked dinner on the campfire, and awoke dry and cozy to rain pitter pattering on the tent in the morning. The electric and mini fridge helped add ease to our quick weekend away. Bathrooms were clean and a short walk from the campsite.

3 nights at Geneseo Campground

Great experience camping out at Geneseo especially as a first time camper. The staff at the check in center was very helpful getting settled in; smooth check in, renting a grill as well as purchasing items we needed for our cabin. As for the cabin it was spacey for two people, accommodating with the appliances such as mini fridge and microwave. Amazing stay overall!

Weekend Trip to Vintage Spring Lake Campground

Danika was a great communicator and made our trip easy! They have a lovely campground, great views of the water and sunset, and ample access to nature. If you are looking for a slow and easy retreat to the outdoors this is the place to go. Plenty of hikes for all levels in the area, short 1 hour excursions or longer full day trails! Can't wait to come back and explore the river valley some more.

We had a great time “roughing it” with the horses. The spot was really nice, right next to the creek. We were able to build a campfire with the firewood on the ground. Then…the most magical thing happened. All the horses on the farm came and paid us a visit. It was awesome and beautiful to have them so near to us. Welcome to our beautiful property! This is a very special place, located an hour from Chicago and only minutes from the west suburbs, you will be transported to another time! This has to be the best “swimming/ fishing hole” in Chicagoland and you can have it all to yourself. The property features 20 acres of woods, prairie and an 8 acre lake!!! The lake is crystal clear because it’s so deep (reportedly 125 ft) and is sandy on the bottom. We created a massive beach area with many camping spots to choose from. The kids will love exploring the trails on foot and on bike. Everyone will love lounging under the umbrellas on the comfy chaise lounges and enjoying the views. You won’t want to leave, but if you need to restock, there a gas station 1/4 mile away and full service grocery store and restaurant under a mile away. We even get pizza delivered! There’s a nice driveway of gravel that leads to a nice open field for RV campers. Tent campers can continue to the beach and set up in style. The property was once an active quarry and was then basically abandoned for 40-50 years. Nature took over over, Trees matured, the stocked lake grew some massive fish. A few years ago we started camping out there and just loved it. We’ve worked hard to make it amazing and we want to share it with you.

As we look to the future in 2022, my husband and I are committed to revitalizing Ruffit Park to provide the same cherished escape that my great aunt Maxine offered for so many years. Our vision is to create a space where parents can unwind and socialize while their children engage in outdoor play, free from the distractions of electronics. We have exciting plans in store, including the opening of a general store, an arcade room, and the eventual reopening of the pool.
