Spring Lake Campground was est. in 1943. The lake is fed by the Mississippi River and there is access to the lake and directly to the river for kayaking/boating and fishing, which is a popular reason people come to the campground. Another popular draw is that the Great River Bike Trail runs right through! It’s a beautiful ride from the campground to nearby Savanna, IL. There is so much to do in the surrounding area: hiking and climbing at Palisades State Park, restaurants, bars and shopping in Savanna, museums and more. But enjoying a peaceful time at the campground, having a bonfire, watching the sunset on the lake and seeing the stars at night is really what it’s about. True old school camping-enjoying the wildlife sanctuary. Get outside and relax. Learn more about this land: A Vintage campground est. 1943. Known for kayaking and fishing, this is a true campground. Instead of pavement, we have grass and trees but our best "amenity" is the peaceful outdoors! The Great River Bike Trail runs right through our campground. Rent a canoe or kayak (through October 1st) Historical Savanna, IL is close by. Enjoy Illinois!

Tent camping!
My husband and I booked this trip for an anniversary/birthday get away! We originally had booked site #1 on the peninsula and were contacted very quickly to see if we would be interested in site #2, which seems equally as beautiful! With the Mississippi River flooding, we were contacted quickly as well with alternative options for camping! Although this could have been a rough start to planning the trip, the hosts were very friendly and extremely helpful with all information regarding the site as well as information about the area, including wonderful places to eat! We still had a beautiful waterfront view and access to everything we would have even with the flooding! We were able to rent a canoe for a very reasonable price to fish from, and there are many fishing locations from shore as well. The firewood is ample for a 'bundle' and you should not run out as long as you talk to those in charge! Danika and James were available for contact during the entire trip and made the experience wonderful!

5 Star Camping
James and Danika are wonderful hosts. I was a solo camper on the peninsula and had the most relaxing and beautiful time. The migration of birds on the water was a special treat. The hosts made sure I had firewood, starter logs and matches each night. I drove into the camp spot with my Subaru Outback and used my rooftop tent. There’s ample room to set up an outdoor cooking space - with picnic table and fire pit. The camp store has coffee and water and maps of the area. The hot outdoor shower is epic. This place is 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ I’ll definitely be back.

Beautiful spot by the Miss. River!
A gem in the middle of our trip! Absolutely a great spot to camp.. we stayed at site 35 and had the peninsula to ourselves, secluded and amazing views of the sunsets. The trees provided some much needed shade and the view of the mississippi with all the lilies and flowers.. amazing. Highly recommend taking advantage of the outdoor shower, even if you have one in your rig :) The hosts were wonderful, responsive and super accommodating! Thank you for a great stay!!!

A Bucket List Must!
We are completely in awe of Danika and James's hospitality and the breathtaking beauty of the the lotus lake! Danika and James are so thoughtful about providing a peaceful and enjoyable camping experience. They planted a vegetable garden for campers to pick. We got to enjoy fresh, plump zucchini and squash. Another one of my favorite amenities of Spring Lake Campground is the outdoor shower; which has hot water! Danika and James checked on us and made sure we have everything we need. They're just good vibes and overall the best campground owners I've met! The lotus lake boat experience during sunset was an unforgettable experience. It's like boating through the rivers of Southern Vietnam without having to pay for the expensive flight. I cannot express how much this is a must experience! 100% would recommend to anyone I know and would come again before the summer ends.

A group of my friends booked the two peninsula sites furthest down and had an amazing time. The view is beautiful and the sites are very spacious. This was definitely a great place to take a peaceful, secluded retreat and embrace nature for what it’s worth. The host was extremely hospitable and accommodating for our large group. Very respectful and straightforward.

I have no issues with the campground itself, I understand that it was memorial day weekend and it was very busy, entirely filled with RVs, but be aware that the campsites are immediately adjacent a busy state highway, and a very active freight rail line. If the motorcycles don't wake you up, rest assured the diesel locomotives will. This being said, it was a beautiful campground with direct access to a paved biking trail right along the Mississippi river, and the hosts were nothing but kind and understanding with me as I traveled with my cat.

Spring Lake Slice of Heaven!
This was our first ever experience and stay with Hipcamp! Man! I feel like we found a diamond in the rough! Although we didnt get to meet Danika, we were well greeted by her spouse, James. We were nestled in on the end of the pier at campsite #2. It was PERFECT! Secluded and private, right next to the lake (*next time I'll bring the bug spray! = lots of mosquitoes). We had our own little slice of Heaven for two nights! Saturday morning, we were told to head up to the camp shop = they had freshly baked AMISH goods for purchase! Those donuts were the bomb - so light & fluffy - just melt in your mouth! Sitting down and chatting with James and his parents was so nice! He even tlkd with a local guy in the campground, who cut my husbands hair! How kind to offer! $5 for a bundle of firewood. Note, there are trains that go by all hours of the day, but it honestly didnt bother me. There are porta-potties right near the campsite. I really ADORED the outdoor shower - dont worry, it was private! Had a locking door but loved the sounds of the birds whilst showering! All around, it was a wonderful stay and a short drive to area parks, fishing or shopping! We look forward to coming back soon!

First and foremost like to say the staff was outstanding. Grounds are very well kept. You're within like 40 minutes of multiple places to go for hiking and stuff like that. Bathrooms were very clean having their little camp store there for ice and wood and everything is exceptionally nice. The sunsets over spring lake are awesome. We'll definitely go back there.
