Spring Lake Campground was est. in 1943. This “vintage campground” has provided a place for families to relax in nature and make memories for generations. The lake is a backwater Mississippi River refuge, so there is always something to see and learn about. The Great River Bike Trail runs right through, so bring your bike! It’s a beautiful ride from the campground to nearby Savanna, IL. We rent kayaks and canoes through September. The lake is great to paddle but be aware there is a lot of plant life on the backwaters. (The lake closes for all boat traffic Oct 1 to provide a refuge for migrating birds during duck hunting season. If you enjoy birding, plan a trip during October) With this abundant plant life, shore fishing becomes challenging as the summer progresses. We offer canoe and kayak rentals as an option to get out on the lake. There is so much to do in the surrounding area: hiking and climbing at Palisades State Park, restaurants, bars and shopping in Savanna, "Troll hunting" in Clinton, IA, museums and more. But enjoying a peaceful time at the campground, having a bonfire, watching the sunset on the lake and seeing the stars at night is really what it’s about. True old school camping, enjoying the wildlife sanctuary. Instead of pavement, we have trees. Our best amenity is nature! Get outside, unplug and relax. *While is says maximum capacity 4, if you are a family with more kids submit a specific request. We can make exceptions for families camping with their children. *We DO allow small campers on the peninsula like teardrops and Scamps but no generators please. *We ask that our campers please arrive before dark to find their site and set up to avoid disrupting other campers. It gets really dark! We do not have street lights so people can see the stars. *please note you are Requesting the site not instantly booking. We will respond to your request ASAP and all requests are pending.

This is the far end site on the peninsula, closest to the lake view and stunning sunsets. It is very shaded and big. There are trees for hammocks, a fire pit, and picnic table. The site is level, with grass and sandy soil that dries out quickly when it rains. Beautiful lake views, birds and wild life to enjoy and direct access to the Great River Bike trail on the property. Reminder that while these sites are pet friendly, your pets must be on leash at all times for everyone’s safety. These sites are primitive (no power or water) but there is potable water spigots in the campground. *Please note you are submitting a Request for booking. This is the first site on the peninsula. It is very shaded. This site is a bit smaller, you may park on the other side of the road if you would like. There are trees for hammocks, a fire pit, and picnic table. The site is a mix of grass and sandy soil that dries out quickly when it rains. Beautiful lake views, birds and wild life to enjoy and direct access to the Great River Bike trail on the property. Site 4 (36) is a newly added site to our peninsula camping experience. This is the far end site on the peninsula, closest to the lake view and stunning sunsets. It is a large secluded site with lots of shade options. There are trees for hammocks, a fire pit, and picnic table. The site is pretty level, with grass and sandy soil that dries out quickly when it rains. Beautiful lake views, birds and wild life to enjoy and direct access to the Great River Bike trail on the property. Reminder that while these sites are pet friendly, your pets must be on leash at all times for everyone’s safety. These are primitive sites (no water or power) but there are potable water spigots in the campground.

This site is shaded in the afternoon and is a close walk to the camp store and boat launch. Experience camping without the setup in our super cozy tiny house cabin! It has ac/heat, a mini refrigerator, microwave, sink, double recliners, tv/dvd player (an assortment of dvds provided), and a queen size bed fully made up with bedding provided. There is a fire pit, picnic table and propane grill for your outdoor cooking- some basic utensils, plates cups and silverware are all provided too. There is a private port a potty right by the cabin and access to an awesome outdoor shower at the camp store. This site is part of a larger camp ground that you will have access to all we have to offer such as kayak rentals and the camp store. *Please note the steps to the loft are very steep and there is no guard rail for the loft, so it is not accessible for everyone and is not designed for small children. This cabin is perfect for two people. *Please note you are submitting a Request for booking. Stunningly beautiful spot! Bird watching, frog sounds, wildflowers (I was on the peninsula alone so I moved one spot over to the furthest spot, 36, FYI - great view, close to the water, privacy). Danika was a great communicator- and even refunded me the cost of the firewood, since it was too damp to use. So I didn’t get to enjoy a fire, but it was still lovely - except at 2am and 3am with the trains rolling by, so I didn’t get much sleep. I hadn’t read any reviews that mentioned trains coming thru in the night with loud horns, I think it happened 4x total, maybe on the hour after midnight? Still a BEAUTIFUL place, at a great price, just not the best for light sleepers.

We loved our stay on the peninsula. The site was clean and flat with plenty of privacy from the neighboring site. The views of the lake are beautiful and unobstructed. Lots of birds to watch and listen to. Danika and James are wonderful hosts always willing to help and very friendly.

We loved our time on "The Peninsula." The campsite was literally right next to the lake with an amazing view and a cool breeze off the water. The camp store was cozy and welcoming. Kayaking was relaxing, and saw lots of wildlife on the water.

This was the perfect site to relax and unwind. Great size campsite that is tucked away on the peninsula right on the water. Enjoyed watching the egret hanging around for my whole stay. So peaceful and chill. The host Danica is so personable and kind and made sure to let me know that if I needed anything to just let them know. Also educated me on the local ecosystem and landmarks that I made sure to check out before I left the area.

This was a nice campsite. The outdoor shower was so nice and clean I enjoyed it more than expected. They only had portable bathrooms but with that being said, it was the cleanest one I've ever used in my whole life. The spot we had was right on the peninsula so it was perfect for the beautiful view this campsite had to offer. Danika and her husband were super friendly.

10 out of 10! The land was beautiful, the campsite was huge, and we loved how close we were to the water and wildlife. Bring the bug spray (the area in general is marshy, so it comes with the territory) and your binoculars (so many birds and we had beaver neighbors!). Danika and her husband were both so kind and communicative. And I appreciated the outdoor shower in this heat. We’ll be back!

Such a lovely campground! Everything was clean and well cared for, and the outdoor shower was a really nice touch. The lake was great, with kayaks available to rent, and there was quick access to a nicely paved bike trail. The whole place felt very kid-friendly. We also loved arriving to find a turtle welcoming us at our campsite — such a cute start to our stay!

The perfect camp site for an overnight getaway! Danika is welcoming and accommodating. In fact, when my pair of barking bozos decided to lock my keys, wallet, and phone in my truck, she was quick to lend me her phone to contact OnStar for assistance. I didn’t even know that my keys could be locked in, as that has never happened before with this truck! Anyway, she had two bundles of firewood next to the fire ring when I arrived. It was a great evening listening to the bullfrogs and relaxing by the flame. Only 20 mins from the casa, so I plan on becoming a regular guest. Here’s to an awesome season! Thank you :) A+++

I stayed at the site on the end of the peninsula, hoping for some relaxation. That's exactly what I got. The site had beautiful views, a good flat spot for my tent, and quite a lot of privacy. The porta potty was just a short walk, and there is potable water in the main camp. The host was very communicative and wanted to make sure that I had a good experience. I would definitely book this site again when I'm looking for another peaceful getaway.

My daughter and I stayed in the fall, the lake was closed to boating and fishing for bird migration and it was absolutely amazing to hear and see the thousands of birds!! That isn't even why we picked the location, but it was a wonderful bonus to the giant site and clean campground. Be warned, it was VERY windy being at the end of the peninsula, we have upgraded stakes so we didn't lose our 4 season tent or my winter equipped hammock, but we could have ... If we didn't have the proper gear. I would love to come back each season to experience taking our kayak out on the lake and to be able to fish. Highly recommend this camp and site!

Beautiful place! We stayed at site 36, which felt very private. We arrived after sunset (our mistake, since the site suggested coming before dusk), so setting up was a bit tricky, but the starry sky was incredible. Danika’s quick replies were super helpful. Overall, very happy with our stay!

I love this campground but this was the first time I stayed at this site. The site was Perfect. We spent nearly the whole time on the water in kayaks we rented from Danika. We cannot wait to come back. The site is spacious and the fire pit is positioned perfectly for the view. The birds are one of our favorite parts! Don’t forget binoculars. Also, I nice plus is that Danika sells wood for a reasonable price and has it delivered right to your site.

The place is very nice. We had the end site and it gave us privacy. The view of the sunset is magnificent from the park. We also did a 7.6 mile loop hike around the area. Good weekend. The only thing is the noise from the train at night, otherwise it was a perfect weekend of camping, eating, and enjoying nature. Big thanks to the host!

We loved camping here! Danica and James were so helpful, and they even offered us to switch to a different site that was unoccupied which had a better lake view. We loved the camp store, and they were stocked with essentials that were helpful in case we forgot anything. We plan on returning since we had so much fun!

I really enjoyed myself camping with my dog at Danika and Jame’s land! They were both very good hosts. I was able to stargaze around the fire after watching a long beautiful sunset. While in my tent at night, looking over the water, I could stargaze from there also. The sites are spread out enough that you can have privacy also. I always like being able to pull my car right up to the site also.
