Waterfront Rustic Primitive(no water/no electric/no showers) Camping we allow primitive tent camping(whole campground), tear drop campers, pop up campers(sites 60 and up) and campervans(whole campground) we are right on the illinois river across from Starved Rock State Park. Towering views of St. Peters sandstone bluffs, soaring bald eagles and sandy islands. We are primitive. no water no electric. Just rugged natural beautiful riverside camping with ultra clean pimped out porta potties that have wipes, underarm spray deodorant, air freshener and hand sanitizer. Please note kayak rentals or guided kayak tours are not included but may be purchased onsite or from our website kayak starved rock campground. showers are available nearby at Ottawa or Oglesby swimming pool for a small fee You must be 21 y.o. to make a camping reservation. If anyone in the camping reservation is under 21 then someone 20 years older must be present at all times camping with the person(s) under 21 Check-in time Mon-Thurs 3:00 pm-5:30PM Friday-Sun 3:00PM-7:30PM Check-out time is 3:00 pm. KAYAK STARVED ROCK CAMPGROUND Camping Rules Our Rules are to promote a family friendly and safe camping experience We reserve the right to evict anyone without refund for improper behavior or failure to observe our rules and regulations. All Campers must check in/show ID at the KSRC office and sign a waiver and receive a parking pass/wristband. WE DO NOT ALLOW GUESTS! ANYONE ON THE PROPERTY MUST BE REGISTERED AHEAD OF TIME AS A CAMPER AND PAID FOR! All Campers are required to wear wristbands. All vehicles must have a Parking pass on the dashboard. Anyone within camp area must have a wristband on. NO GENERATORS!!!!! NO MUSIC IS TO BE PLAYED THROUGH SPEAKERS AT ANY TIME QUIET HOURS ARE FROM 10PM TO 7AM THAT MEANS NO NOISE WHATSOEVER. Strictly Enforced Vehicular entry/exit is not permitted between these hours. Children should be on campsite by 9:00 pm. If you violate this rule you will be evicted without refund and you will be banned from ever camping again.

Beautiful sites but no enforcement of quiet hours unless you make a complaint. Inconsistent with rules. Supposedly there is a camp host (which we were not told until after complaints) but will only come by if you complain. The yacht club next door plays very loud music until past quiet hours. I’m sure holiday weekend played a part but that was the loudest campground I’ve ever been to. The kayak tours were nice though.

Another great trip to Kayak Starved Rock Campground! We really love our campsite. We don’t feel overcrowded, and it’s a great view of the river. This time we took some paddle boards and had a blast exploring the water. We paddled over to Starved Rock State Park during the day and went back out at sunset. Like the laid back atmosphere of the place.

Very pretty open space. Lots of different sites to suite your needs. Wooded areas, clearings, by the water. The sites are close together but by the water they are deep, so you can set your tent back from others to feel more private. Very quiet and serene. We watched the moon reflecting off the water at night. Very dog friendly. Just know to bring what you know you’ll need to be comfortable. They have tents to rent and wood to by. Very clean potties.

Kayak Starved Rock was an amazing campground! Very family friendly, and maybe the best porta potties I've ever used. We loved the kayaking, and it was so close to Starved Rock, and the I and M canal Trail. 100% recommend this place and will be coming back!

Site 154 - KAYAK STARVED ROCK CAMPGROUND
This site was under two big mulberry trees so made the chain down picnic table unusable. The site was the closest to potty house and kayaking pick up and sign in's. BUSY area during time they are open but peaceful during the evening . Staff was great. I had a two hour drive after work to the campground I opted to not use my tent and rent from the campsite thinking I wouldn't have to fight to put one up getting in late but to my misunderstandings I still had to put a tent up. It did go up fast but I think it should be listed as. I was glad I made it at campground in daylight. The kayaking tour was great. I would stay here again but not at this site

CampSite 90 -Kayak Starved Rock
The 140s were river front, narrow, but deep. The original sites are VERY CLOSE in the 90s, we didn't explore . Port a potty very clean. Unable to move picnic tables and ours was staked under an actively ripe and dropping mulberry tree, so be forewarned to that possibility. Obviously, woods and water, lots of mosquitos, bring extra! Hiked and swam. Was first irked by no radio, but found it to be LOVELY! We do indeed not always need to be entertained.

The campsite was beautiful. there were so many birds (which I love) and a huge bald eagles nest. the sites were large and well maintained and the porta potties were well kept. we did the kayak tour as well and it was great!

Had a great time over Memorial Day weekend. We brought our own kayaks which made everything super easy. We did have to use some life jackets (they’re required to kayak) but they didn’t charge us for them! We only used them for 2 hours. The staff all seem relatively young and new but they did a good job. We would come back for sure. The only down side was a really loud man laughing off and on for an hour around 1AM. Otherwise, the campground is quiet and people pretty much abide by all the rules.

We thoroughly enjoyed the campsite. Jay was very helpful and fun to talk to. The site was clean, and had clean portable restrooms. We were lucky to only have a few other campers. It was quiet, relaxing and the views were great. The fishing was excellent. We were able to see a couple of bald eagles nesting with one chic. We will definitely be back.

I’m a younger woman and went with just my dog, and I have to commend this place for making me feel like I could solo camp safely!!! They take the no entry past a certain time very seriously and I really appreciated that! The sites were super easy to find and well maintained. I’ll definitely be coming back :)

Site 24 - KAYAK STARVED ROCK CAMPGROUND
The location of this campground was great - only 10 mins to Starved Rock and Matthiessen state parks and downtown Utica. My biggest piece of constructive feedback was that when booking through Hipcamp, I thought I chose a specific site (#24) which was shaded and would have provided a great spot for my young family, especially considering we had planned to spend much time with the children at the campsite. When I arrived, we were given a different site that was exposed to direct sun most of the day. I went up to ask about it. The young attendant first, lectured me on booking through third party sites and second, told me they were almost fully booked because it was a holiday weekend and then moved on to a new customer. I was honestly so surprised at the lack of customer service. That evening, there were 4 sites around us that were empty -- 3 of which were in shade. The next day, my husband inquired about the shaded spot behind us and we were able to move. It was our first camping trip with our 5yo and 3yo and her rudeness put a damper on the overall experience.

Easy check in. Porta Potty’s clean. No water so plan accordingly. Lots of space to spread out with great exploring nearby for the kids. Convenient location close to the state parks and great place to day trip from. Would definitely stay again!

Site 21 - KAYAK STARVED ROCK CAMPGROUND
We enjoyed our stay at Kayak Starved Rock but felt that it could have used a bit of trimming up. The porta potties were clean, but in some cases had vegetation, including poison ivy, around the outside. Otherwise it was free of debris and clean. As for kayaking, though it was on the Illinois River, the designated kayak area was quite limited in an alcove surrounded by water lilies. Those wanting to venture further (using the company’s kayaks) would be discouraged. The location was good, just across the river from Starved Rock State Park and a very interesting visitors center down river for the adjacent dam and locks. And it should be noted that this stretch of the Illinois River was quite active with barges so those kayaking should take care.
