This is a 150 year old working farm, which has seen seven generations. We are happy to share a four acre wooded area. There isn’t any electricity Whether you are a first time or experienced camper wanting to sleep outdoors. We have the perfect spot for you to rest, relax, and recharge while camping under the stars surrounded by trees in a four acre wooded area located on a quiet country road within a vast working farm in the heart of Jo Daviess, County. Listen to the sounds of nature white spotting a variety of wildlife. Watch the sunrises, sunsets, comets, meteor showers, sometimes the northern lights, and the full moon rising over the hills. Watch the leaves turn color in autumn. We offer three types of sites: basic Glamping, preset tent, and rustic. Check out the descriptions of the sites to see which site is for you. Limited sites - first come basis. We try to make each site as secluded as possible.. There are firewood stations throughout the sites with attached fire extinguisher. We are creating a gravel trek around the sites with two entrances and gravel parking planned be completed by 2028. We are working on flushable outhouses and possible showers. Children’s play area by 2027. There isn’t any swimming or fishing available on the farm property. There is a private lake three miles from the sites - see details under extras. We are located ten miles from the Wisconsin border and villages with their unique shops and museums. 20 minutes from Galena, 45 minutes from the Mississippi River and Dubuque. Iowa. Three hours from Chicago. DNR - department of natural resources have properties a mile north of the farm with nice trails to walk near the Apple river, which is stocked twice a year for fishing tournaments. As well as the Boy Scout campgrounds located nearby. Locals have caught crayfish and swam in the Apple river, we are unfamiliar with current spots. People have tubed and canoed down the Apple river. There are numerous state parks within driving distance for hiking, sight seeing, eagle watching etc. Immerse yourself in the vast history of the area. Again we encourage you to come rest relax and recharge in this peaceful spot.

Site 2 is a rustic campsite in an open area large enough for 10 campers surrounded by trees. It has its own entrance access and parking pad, this site is a self set up with your own camping equipment. The site has a picnic table and a fire pit barrel. “ No electricity “ or “WiFi” is available. We try to make each campsite as secluded as possible. There might be a several barriers in place while we put in the trek and plant trees.

Site 4: A 10/12 person yurt style tent with two double cots bedding is not provided but available upon request. Extra cots and bedding are available as well. A picnic table, chairs, and a fire barrel grille are provided at the site. We try to make each campsite as secluded as possible with barriers until trees can be set in their place..

Site 05 - RWH Tent site

Site you will find two or three preset four person tents, possibly two cots per tent ( no bedding included ), a picnic table and a fire barrel for your camping experience whether you are a first time camper wanting to try camping before purchasing equipment or experience camper traveling through the area without equipment and do not want to spend money on a hotel. There are firewood stations throughout the campsites with an attached fire extinguisher. We will be working on a gravel trek around the campsites for easier access to each site planned be completed by 2028 season. We have flushable outhouses coming for the 2026 season and possible showers. A Children’s play area scheduled for 2027 season. Rest relax and recharge while camping under the stars in a four acre wooded area located on a quiet country road within a vast working farm in the heart of Jo Daviess, County. We are located Ten miles from nearest villages in all directions. 45 minutes from the Mississippi River and Dubuque. Iowa. Ten miles south of the Wisconsin border. Three hours from Chicago. Deep vast rich area history about the Indians who use to live here , the railroad, Galena- just 20 minute drive, and the many small farming villages with their unique shops and museums. DNR - department of natural resources have properties a mile north of the farm with nice trails to walk near the Apple river. As well as the Boy Scout campgrounds. The Apple River is a mile north for wonderful fishing spots. It is stocked twice a year with bass trout etc. many fishing tournaments are on the Apple river. There are numerous state parks within driving distance for hiking sight seeing eagle watching etc. See photos for terrain vegetation and interesting local spots. Again we encourage you to come rest relax and recharge at this peaceful spot.

Explore Jo Daviess county in the northwest corner of Illinois, Iowa and southwest corner of Wisconsin surrounding tri-state area along the Mississippi River staying in a recently renovated country ranch style house located on a 150 year old working farm. A Large open living room, dining and kitchen area in one half of the house along with three bedrooms in an older section of the house which was a sears robucks home brought down the road on a large truck and placed on a foundation in 1940s. A Second dining area located on the deck under a gazebo. Perfect get away from the fast pace busy life for those who want to take a quiet break, history buffs, explorers, and making lasting memories with family or friends. Enjoy animals, hiking, fishing, history plus more. A four person tent no extra charge is available for anyone who would want to sleep outside under the stars in the large yard and still have the amenities of home at their disposal. Please bring your own sleeping bags, cots, or outdoor bedding. Spotting variety of wildlife - perfect for bird watchers. Watching the most spectacular sunrises, sunsets, and the moon as big as life rising over the hills. The stars bright enough to reach and touch. Great area to camp!!. Very peaceful and secluded. Close enough to town if you needed anything. It rained during some of the time but all and all it was a beautiful area. There were several campsites to pick from which was very nice. Will definitely be returning to camp again.

We really enjoyed staying at Joan’s and jean’s! The farmhouse has everything you need games, basketball, a full stocked kitchen! We enjoyed being in a rural area and looking at the stars. Joan and Jean were super nice and helpful with everything. We enjoyed seeing the cows so close! And teddy the dog who hanged out with us and was super friendly and adorable 🥰

We loved our stay at this peaceful countryside ranch! The setting was absolutely gorgeous, with rolling fields and farm animals adding to the charm. The fully renovated ranch was cozy, comfortable, and beautifully maintained, blending modern amenities with a quaint, rustic feel. We came to stargaze for the Perseid meteor shower, and the clear, dark skies made for an unforgettable night under the stars. It was the perfect spot to relax, unplug, and enjoy the quiet. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a serene getaway.

Beautiful camp site with everything you need. Hosts were excellent communicators. We went to ride bikes in the area, and couldn’t have had a better time. Highly recommend staying here for some time in the driftless.

We had a big group and rented both sites, Jean was very nice and did a tour of some of the animals on the property. The sites were by the road but there were rarely cars. Plenty of shade during the day, and the stars were beautiful!

RWH Farm
We had a great time staying at RWH Farm Woods. J & J are super friendly and accommodating and have a beautiful piece of land. A very quiet secluded space with a beautiful old oak tree made this the perfect spot for base camping while riding bikes all over the IL driftless. Highly recommended and already planning on a return trip in the future!
