We purchased our 45 acre farm in 1997, since then we have operated a sustainable small organic farm. In January of 2018 we purchased 58 more acres that is attached to our land. The property has a greenhouse and about a half acre of field that we raise vegetables and fruit on. We have a 3 acre pond with a naturally sustaining fish population, that we swim and boat in. We have some news for everyone from new campers to those that have visited before, we had our pond dredged this fall and winter (2025-2026). this was a much needed improvement for the ecology of the pond and it's inhabitants. We do want everyone to know it will look different for a while. There were trees that had to be removed from the north and east side of the pond, and until we can get the soil moved that came out of the pond, there will be piles of soil around the pond. The depth of the pond will be low until we receive enough rain to fill it back up (we didn't drain it completely, but it is much lower right now). We are keeping site 2 closed for 2026 so the grass has a chance to grow back. We will be adding a few more sites once the pond area is landscaped. There are hiking trails that go through many small pastures and woods with streams running through them. Plenty of wildlife, hiking and mountain biking areas. We have a certified kitchen at the farm and have products raised and/or made on the farm for folks to purchase. Ice is available at the farm $5/8 pound bag. Supposedly our house is haunted and there are a couple of haunted sites within 15 miles of the farm, Anderson Cemetery and Witch's Bridge. Nearby Taylorville has a Walmart, Aldi, Kroger, and many small local businesses. There is a YMCA and a few parks, in Taylorville. Lake Sangchris State Park is close by. The capital of Illinois, Springfield, is 35 miles from the farm.

We bought the farmette with much work outside and home interior remodel to complete. We slowly turned the property into our family oasis. We neighbor a pasture with cows. There are free range chickens running around during the day. Geese greet us every evening and morning at the pond...as do the many bullfrogs. Occasionally you'll hear the coyotes, but they keep their distance. The stars shine peacefully and the sunsets are picturesque (most afternoons). The pond is a great place to swim and fish. The hillside is a nice walk for exercise or take the easier route and sit under the great oak tree in the other pasture. Campsites are off the road, behind our main home. You won't find a sign...we keep it simple. We allow pets at the sites for a $5 per pet/per night. If you would like to bring a pet, please add the Pet Fee which is listed on the Extra during the booking process. We have firewood available for sale, $5.55/bundle. This is located in the Extra section during the booking process. Lastly, there is free range chicken eggs available for purchase, $3.50/dozen. We are located ten miles from the Wisconsin border and villages with their unique shops and museums. 20 minutes from Galena, 45 minutes from the Mississippi River and Dubuque. Iowa. Three hours from Chicago. DNR - department of natural resources have properties a mile north of the farm with nice trails to walk near the Apple river, which is stocked twice a year for fishing tournaments. As well as the Boy Scout campgrounds located nearby. Locals have caught crayfish and swam in the Apple river, we are unfamiliar with current spots. People have tubed and canoed down the Apple river. There are numerous state parks within driving distance for hiking, sight seeing, eagle watching etc. Immerse yourself in the vast history of the area. Again we encourage you to come rest relax and recharge in this peaceful spot.

The camper is 28 feet with a 12 foot tip-out. It has one bedroom with a king size bed, and another with a double bed. In the common area there's a sleeper sofa. There's a bathroom with shower in the camper and another bathroom with shower about a 1 min. walk in a separate building. Our farm is just a 5 min. drive from the Great Pumpkin Patch, Yoder's Country Kitchen and various Amish owned shops. Beautiful Lake Shelbyville is a 35 minute drive. We are about a 45 min. drive from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and 35 min. from Eastern Illinois University. This Amish owned camper doesn't have Wifi (TV only plays DVD's). Depending on your phone carrier & plan, you shouldn't have any problem getting cell phone service & internet on your phone. It may be possible to funnel the internet from your phone to your phone to your laptop using a "personal hotspot".

Weekend Trip to Bear Creek Farm and Ranch

Bear Creek is a beautiful place to camp for the weekend. Debbie is a fantastic welcoming host who greeted us upon arrival and sent us home with a bag of homemade cookies in the end. Since it is a working farm, there are plenty of farm animals and gardens to see, in addition to hiking trails and a pond. We loved the rustic campsite with a water entrance and so did our dog :) I would definitely recommend this spot for tent camping or just a visit.

Awesome Place!!! The Lindens went above and beyond for us during our stay!!! Great views. tons of wildlife from birds to turkeys and deer. Great rails in the hills with some benched at the top to take in the view at the summit. Swim, fish, campfires. They have fresh eggs and firewood. Highly recommend for a peaceful getaway and so close to tons of parks and Galena etc. Thanks for the hospitality!!

We loved camping on Debbie’s land! Our spot was secluded and right in front of the water. It was beautiful and peaceful out there! We also loved that it wasn’t packed with a bunch of people. This place is an dog friendly adventure wonderland! My dogs are German shepherds and love a good challenge and the paths were just what they were looking for! There are cricks on the trails with clear running water. The dogs took advantage of getting a drink and cooling off. We ended up at the pond and we all took advantage of cooling off there. The peace and quiet was wonderful! I was really just focused on getting my dogs out and spending quality time with them, mission accomplished! Debbie and her family are wonderful! I will be booking again very soon!

Beautiful and secluded hidden gem for a camping weekend. The owners were very friendly and accommodating to help maximize the experience of our stay. The campsite had plenty of space to make it our temporary home in the grass. Waterside pond access for fishing or kids/dog to splash was so wonderful also. Kids swam during the day and chased frogs at nite. I don't think anything could have made it a more perfect family getaway. Highly recommend!

We really enjoyed staying here overnight. The kids enjoyed looking in the pond right at our site edge. The hosts were so warm and welcoming, and I loved the full private bathroom with all the amenities. Taylorville was only 13 minutes away to get anything we forgot. The fire pit was also excellent. We fell asleep to the wind in the trees and woke up to sunshine and a rooster.

I’m hesitant to write a review because I don’t want this place to become too popular 😅 I truly cannot recommend Bear Creek Farm & Ranch enough. Deb and Matt are the kindest, most generous hosts, and their land and animals are incredible. Our group (1 trailer + 5 tents) stayed at Site 1, which is closest to the bathroom. We woke up each morning to the gorgeous view of the large pond, horses greeting us at the fences, and friendly cats and dogs roaming near the bathroom. The rain and mud didn’t stop us from exploring the vast trails on their property. Lots of nature to appreciate. Deb offered to make a carrot cake for my birthday celebrations, and let me tell you, it was DELICIOUS. We will definitely be back.

The firefly glamping tent site felt very private while also having everything we needed within walking distance. The giant hammock by the tent was awesome and the bed was very comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay!

We stayed at the cabin. Happy that there was access to a battery pack to light a lamp and charge phones. The cabin was cozy, bed comfortable. Bed was made up with linens and blankets. There were chairs by the fire ring. We enjoyed visiting the chickens and sheep at their pens. We will definitely be returning some day.

Other reviews are spot on. Comfortable place to "glamp" with all the amenities one could need, including, but not limited to, clean indoor flush toilet, indoor shower, fridge/freezer, microwave, lights, ac/heater, blankets, towels, chairs, campfire, hammock, couches, board games, electricity, and firewood. It rained with heavy wind during our stay but we stayed dry and safe inside our yurt till it passed. The farm host, Sam, is passionate about regenerative farming (we should all be!) and provides a great low-key farm tour/short hike. Don't have any myself but this seems like a great place to bring respectful kids! Be sure to check yourself for ticks after being outside, we did find two on the window flaps of the tent. Can't wait to come back. Thank you again, Sam!

We had such a nice stay! My husband and toddler stayed in a tent we set up on the lawn and I stayed with my baby in the cabin. The wood stove kept us plenty warm for the chilly nights. We felt like the spaces were private enough but also part of the community. The farm is great, Sam is very knowledgeable and passionate about the work being done there. We got to meet baby goats and sheep and enjoyed hiking nearby.
