The Sandbox Campground

The Sandbox campground was born from The Sandbox Indoor Beach Sports and Events facility, which mainly focuses on providing year round beach volleyball. 

We bought the property in 2015 and opened the facility in 2019. 
As it happens, it's a 12+ acre lot surrounded by wetlands, hiking and biking trails ... there will never be another building built within view of our facility.
 We are surrounded by nature, and will be forever.

So what a great opportunity to offer camping and access to all of the forests, woodlands, wetlands and trails around! And if you're up for it, come play some beach volleyball and meet new lifelong friends :)

   Bring your family & friends to camp at our quiet and very modest small farm. Located in backwoods horse pastures with chickens, a dog, and a couple of horses. The property is very spread out and there are 2 outhouses for all sites to use.  Your pets are welcome too!  Locally there are state parks with beaches, and state forest for trails and lakes, hiking and biking. Or you can just relax and enjoy the serenity!

  Other attractions include local farmers markets, Gilette's Castle,  and the famous River Ferry crossing the Connecticut River with a vehicle across to East Haddam. 

   We offer an hot H2O outdoor shower here for the comfort of out clients. It is located on the back of main house in corner.  See map in photos.

    We cannot allow any wood for camp fires to be brought in form the outside for environmental reasons.  It can be pre-purchased for $12 per bundle on this site, or $10.00 cash here at farm.

 Farm Fresh eggs daily when available for $5.00 per 1/2 dozen.  

There are blankets and pillows are provided, and linens for cabin or trailer sites.

Garbage removal is available as well $5 per bag provided.

The Barn! that sleeps 16+ people and just shows how gorgeous this property is.

Probably the most stunning properties ever ! The sounds of nature abound as do the views. It is LUSH and a feast for the eyes any time of the day or night. Come and camp and experience The Barn! You will have life long memories! Forested hiking trails, bountiful rivers and watering holes, fishing, birdwatching, peace…stars and nature!

AMAZING STUNNING PROPERTY! PRIVATE! PEACEFUL! Absolutely heaven sent! A place that will stay in your hearts forever. The property's backdrop is the lush James Goodwin forest where you can walk directly from to hiking trails. Fall asleep under the magnificent brilliance of the millions of stars, hear nothing but the sound of crickets, croaking frogs, hooting owls; see fireflies light up the night and fall asleep to the sound of the streams running right alongside the property. Watch the ariel acrobatics of the swallows swoop into the barn to feed their chicks! The two streams feed into the huge Natchaug River right across the street which is great for fishing, or spending the day at Diana's pool basking on the rocks with a picnic lunch. The area and property is perfect for hiking, horseback riding, small retreats, family gatherings all the while enjoying nature at its purest.

We offer a Weber grill and large fire pit and outdoor picnic table with umbrella.

You can either sleep in the barn, down in the clean stalls, or up in the barn loft. Bring supplies as if you are camping ie bedding, hammock, tent, sleeping pad or inflatable mattress. There is a long wooden table up in the barn loft that seats 14. There are games up there too, (dominos, cards, trivial pursuit etc). You may also camp outside under the starry skies.

We provide a VERY clean porta potty and the barn has electricity and running (cold) water. Bring a solar portable shower should you need.

One of the two peaceful streams that run either side of the property and feed the huge Natchaug River across the street.

Fernwood on Alan F.’s Land

There are several options for setting up your tent.  You will be the only ones at Fernwood, or Fernwood 2  unless we happen to be up working on the land.  No matter where you set up you'll have your own private fire pit, and level ground for your tent(s).  

Come and enjoy a quiet retreat, or use Fernwood as a base for many outdoor activities-biking, fishing, hiking-all nearby.  Natchaug Forest offers great trout fishing.  Goodwin State Forest is less than 3 miles away by car where you can put in a canoe on Pine Lake, amble through the wildflower and pollinator gardens, or enjoy the Education Center and Museum. From Goodwin, you can access the Air Line State Park Bike/Hiking Path. 

Hampton also has a general store that has simple food, frozen dinners that Kara will heat up for you, gifts, and awesome Ice Cream Sodas!

 If you want a change from all that nature, there is Sharpe Hill Vineyard less than 10 miles away, as well as We-Li-Kit IceCream less than 6 miles.  The route to either place will take you through beautiful scenic farmland.

We arrived a bit too late to see the flowers in their full glory, but it was great still seeing a bit of color in the cold weather!

Alan took us to this site for us to take a look. It's a wonderful camping place and we loved the hiking trails leading through the rest of the land.

Organic Green Farm Retreat

Better Together CT Inc Farm and Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to re-integrating veterans and first responders through farming, fellowship and the arts. Through full community participation we offer programs for seniors and children as well. Our working farm produces Organically grown hemp and vegetables and offers a full line of products that are handcrafted with full spectrum CBD oil from hemp. Feel free to help us pick produce in the fields or rent paddleboards and explore The local spots. Our rescued therapeutic miniherd loves to have breakfast with our campers and enjoys therapeutic touch. Explore over 30 acres of hiking trails with nearby water access for fishing and swimming. This historic farm has been in the same family for generations and became a cornerstone of the Country Wellness Campus, the New England Center of Excellence for holistic medicine in 2018.

Minihorses rescued a year ago will melt your heart and teach you about yourself.  Kids will have a lifetime of memories after exploring nature and learning about self sustainability. You may swim at the beach 15 minutes away or visit surrounding New England coastal towns such as Mystic.  If interested in the sweat lodge, please check the calendar for availability. Holiday Hill

A century old chicken farm that was turned into a summer day-camp and outdoor recreation center in 1958. Currently it hosts about 500 happy campers every summer and events on the weekends.
