2 nights at Upper Shire Campsites Hudson Valley

Joanna’s sites are beautifully and thoughtfully laid out. The airstream was comfortable and fun to sleep in. Joanna was communicative and helpful. We saw turtles in the pond, a barred owl, lotsa birds and deer walked by too.

We had such a pleasant experience staying the night at Ridgeview #2! Truly, the farm and orchard are so beautiful, even in the tail end of the winter season. This site felt private even for a working area, and we were only visited by deer in the evening and throughout the night. Because of the rolling hills and hard-packed soil, we never had to worry about our tent flooding despite it raining the entire night. We managed to stay completely dry and warm and were able to pack in and out in a cinch since we could drive our car right onto our site. We drove a 4x4 truck and there is one particularly steep part of the path that was dodgy with the rain, but I'm almost certain we could have taken our tiny sedan all the way through due to the well-maintained farm trails. Just be sure to read and adhere to their listed rules as this is a working farm and you shouldn't have issues! The farm stand nearby is perfect for any last minute amenities if you forgot / ran out of anything. There's apple wood for a campfire (great for long, hot fires) and we made sure to arrive as soon as they opened in the morning for warm apple-cider donuts — incredible! Lastly, their brewery was not only a pleasant surprise, but a wildly fun experience with a live band playing on a Sunday night. You could definitely tell everyone there was a local but we didn't feel excluded and the beer and cider were great. Will be recommending to friends in the city who are looking to get away, but not TOO far away.

This was my first Hip Camp stay. The land was as advertised (great open and private property, friendly cows, and a great view). The weather turn out for the worse on our weekend but as seasoned campers we made the best of it. My friend and I talked about coming back at some point with the family and make a bigger trip out of it.

I always have a great time camping at Ethan and Karen's land. The waterfall and surrounding area make for a beautiful scenic background. The directions are clear and the privacy is worth it. I highly recommend Timberland Falls, I've been hot tenting there in the winter and it never disappoints .

Weekend Trip to Timberland Falls

We loved camping on Ethen & Karen's property Timberland Falls. We went up into the mountains expecting a winter storm and this didn't disappoint. We were wonderfully surrounded by the sounds of snow fall and the light breeze and the water falling under the frozen waterfall was a nice sight as well. This property is extremely beautiful, serene and peaceful. The cabin is a great addition and was necessary on Sunday night during the windiest portion of the storm, but was wonderfully comfortable. Thank you again, Ethen and Karen for the wonderful property and for your hospitality!

Christian was so friendly and helpful in showing us where to set up and even setting us up in a cozier spot since there was some super cold, windy weather! The farm is beautiful and waking up to walk around and say hi to the horses and ponies was so nice! We even explored the property for a bit before we left and it was beautiful! The stream was frozen and glorious and Christian kindly wished us safe travels and goodbye when we were on our way out! We hope to come back in the spring when we can do better exploring in the area! 10/10 would recommend Christian’s sweet farm!

Timberland Falls is a little slice of heaven in the winter. It is magical. The backdrop is breathtaking is very well. Kept the access to dry firewood makes it easy to create fires. The waterfall is stunning with snow and ice. And on top of that, Ian is super accommodating very quick to respond and easy to communicate with 10 out of 10.!

Timberland Falls did not disappoint. I was hoping to find a place with a waterfall and from the pictures I was hopeful but the lnadscape is even better in person. We were pleasantly surprised by the snowy science and braved the cold temperature in a hot tent . We will definitely be back and hopefully check it out in the warmer months. Ethan and Karen were super responsive and incredibly accommodating. You have lots of privacy in this place. A little slice of heaven!

Tent camping on Christian's farm was great! Site was clean and secluded. It felt like I checked out of the great race for the weekend. Area is beautiful, with tons of trails to hike all day right from the farm. Just a stones throw from Mt. Greylock- don't forget your Alltrails, or Google maps!

The area was beautiful and views were great. I can only imagine how gorgeous this site is in the spring and summer! Unfortunately there was a fire ban when we visited, but we still enjoyed time under the stars. There was a siren in the middle of the night that woke us up once but otherwise things were very peaceful. We loved shopping at the farm store and highly recommend checking it out even if you don’t stay here!!

Yurt By The The Berkshires

Situated on land that is right by the southern access road to Cherry Plain State Park with it's own private stream running through it. Get away from it all and immerse yourself in nature. Learn more about this land:This is an off grid yurt. Think camping... with an outhouse and a stream for washing dishes but no running water or electricity. You'll have a comfy bed and futon. If it rains it's a welcome excuse to hang out in the yurt, not a ruined weekend. Staying inside, listening to the rain and playing games is a highlight of our trips there rather than a reason to reschedule. Rain on the yurt sounds incredible. Though cooking outside and enjoying a campfire & toasting marshmallows is also fun! The space The yurt sits on our 4 acres of woods right near the southern access road to Cherry Plain State Park. A stream runs through the middle of the property and you can see and hear it from the yurt. If you cross the stream the woods on the other side are on a hill and it's really fun to explore the boulders and woods over there with kids. There is a beautiful lake in the park with a playground and swimming beach. You can rent boats there, too. There are also showers and bathrooms there that you can use during the summer season. You can hike there... 2-3 miles (a lot uphill) over a kind of rough dirt road - while you can drive on that road you may want to drive the alternate 15 minute route around on paved roads if you don't have high clearance on your car. There is no cell service at the yurt but you can get a signal if you walk a few minutes up the road towards the park. 1) The yurt does not have electricity or running water. We have a small portable power supply that can charge phones and run a light. It'll get you through the weekend doing that sort of thing but can't run heavier appliances. There is a small bluetooth Bose speaker there that you can use to play music. And an acoustic guitar to make your own! 2)There is an outhouse with a composting toilet. We also have a small portable potty that can be used in the yurt (ideally for liquids only). We can provide you with a privacy tent for that, which you could put in the yurt if you like (let us know if you'd like that as we'd have to bring it out). You're also only an 8 minute drive from a Cumberland Farms with a nice bathroom. :) 3) We have a 2 burner camp stove that you can use out in the woodshed or in the yurt. We'll set it up in the shed for you but feel free to bring it inside if you don't want to go out to make coffee or tea in the morning. We have a small kettle and pour over coffee maker or Aeropress that can be used for making coffee. There is also a fire pit and we have cast iron cookware that you can use to cook over that. 4) We will provide you with a 5 gallon jug of water for the outdoor kitchen area. Dishes, etc. can be taken down and washed in the stream. We'll provide a sponge and environmentally friendly soap. Please don't use soap on the cast iron pans as it will remove their finish and rust them. 5) We can provide a cooler if you don't have one but there is not yet a refrigerator out there. We'll be getting one that runs off propane for the small kitchen we'll be installing inside the yurt but that and the wood stove won't be there until the fall. You'll need to pick up ice for your cooler. 6) In addition to the bed and the futon there is a folding card table and chairs and bunch of games. Let us know if there's anything in particular you like to play and we can try to provide it if we have it at home. Guest access The yurt has it's own private drive. Other things to note Because we're near the park and it is a nature lover's paradise, you do get a fair number of ATVs riding past the property. Their motors are loud. Sometimes they go by in the middle of the night. They are harmless and friendly in our experience but can wake you up if you or your kids aren't sound sleepers. It's not a constant stream of them or anything like that but you'll usually have a group go by a few times a day and like I said, sometimes in the middle of the night. There is no cell service at the yurt but you can get a signal if you walk a few minutes up the road towards the park.

It all started when grandfather Charles B Wright first establish this farm in 1904. He purchased it for its natural springs. In our barn (now home to Gardiner Brewing Company) he had gravity fed water troughs for his cattle. Since then we have slowly switched from animals to tree fruit. You will enjoy rolling hills of fruit trees and fruit gardens along with beautiful views of the Shawangunk Mountain Ridge. We have 450+ acres so it in very private. As we are a working farm, you can see us driving pass with our tractors or maintaining the orchard around your campsite on occasion. You are welcome to ride your bikes, hike or jog where you will pass ponds and a working farm landscape. Please don’t pick our fruit. If you would like to enjoy the fruits of our labor please visit our farm store open year round on the premises where we sell cheeses, our fresh picked fruit and veggies, local meats, and our famous cider donuts along with other farm products. We also have a farm brewery open 3-7 in our old dairy barn for you to enjoy. Live music Saturdays and Sundays. Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Reserve are only 10 minutes away. The rail trail is three minutes away. This trail gives you walking and biking access into New Paltz, where there is tons of restaurants and lots of shopping. Please be aware that during the months of September and October there may be a Pick-Your-Own customer or two walking around picking apples around the campsite area between the hours of 10:00-6:00. You are also welcome to come down to the farm market and purchase bags to pick your own apples in season.

This land was the homestead of the very first non native settler of the area, John Wiley, in 1787. Before that, it was the land of the Mahican native Americans. They named it "valley of the butternut trees", or Wyomanock. The Wyomanock Creek is the backbone of this little valley. Beaver have dammed the creek at several points to create ponds and other wetland features that support a diversity of wildlife including otter, moose and a myriad of birds, from osprey to herons. This sanctuary is host to many uncommon native plants and plant communities. We would love to share it with you! Your host, Thom, invites you to property to explore 75 acres of meadows, woods and water. Choose one of several sites either in the woods or open areas. The property is on a 40-acre old apple orchard that is super private and filled with dramatic views and spectacular sunsets. Wake up in your tent to the sounds of birds chirping, roasters crowing and cows just close enough but just far enough way. On occasion there may be a person driving by to tend to the cattle.

Sits at the base of Evergreen Mountain bordered on three sides by tumbling water: West Kill Creek, Herdman Brook, and Haring Brook. Operated as a hunting and fishing lodge for decades - rainbow, brown, heron, kingfishers, eagles, larks , deer, bear, mink, beaver, bobcat - all there, right out the door, literally. You don't know what's going to come through your camp. The actual camp site itself is the ultimate in social distancing. As close to pure wilderness as it gets. No vehicles allowed at site. From an easily accessible parking space, it's a mildly uphill ten minute hike through magical meadows deep into a hidden mountain valley in the midst of 250,000 acres. Utter privacy. The only sounds being the wind, the birds, yourself, and Herdman Brook rushing along a few yards east of your site. Once again no vehicles are allowed at the campsite itself. At one time, yes, but we needed to disallow it because the property was being torn up, and the beauty of the site is that it's so pristine. This is not glamping. No cabin. No platform. Need tent, tarp, or hammock, and you will sleep under more stars than you can possibly imagine. Fire ring, cooking grate, water bucket This is true wilderness camping. You're off the grid at site - no cell service - but wifi available if necessary on front porch of main house aka base camp. 10 a.m. check in. 3 p.m. checkout. Please send ETA when possible. Campers ought to be aware that black bears live in these mountains., although you're not likely to see one unless it's running away from you. If you're really nervous bring bear spray, but you're not likely to need it. I literally chased one off our porch not a month ago. I would appreciate your purchasing human waste bags from me at base camp when you arrive. I'll have them here for $3.00/bag. Feel free to buy your own. You should also bring FIRE STARTER to make your life easier. We sell firewood as well - 7 logs/$10. As with the waste bags, we would appreciate buying the firewood directly from us. Wonderful hikes - one to a waterfall - trail head at end of Spruceton Rd. Hunter Brook, Devil's Notch, Fire Tower atop Hunter Mountain, Ridge of West Kill Mountain West Kill Brewery and Spruceton Inn Bed and Bar each half mile up the road. Civilized respites. 4 campers preferred. 6 possible. One more thing: DOGS. We have two: a 13 year old female whatever and a shepherd-husky mix, 4 years old, also female. They are quite friendly and docile, although the shepherd looks intimidating, and both roam the property at will 2-3 times/day. We would prefer you not bring your dog, however, if you must, please be certain it is well behaved 4.5 miles up County Rte 6 to 1833 Spruceton Rd., NY 12492 Old white farmhouse. On left.
