We are closed for the season. PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY The Rabbit Hole Ranch offers beautiful night skies with little to no light pollution and unobstructed views of the majestic Blanca Massif. The Great Sand Dunes and Zapata Falls is just a (gorgeous) 35 minute drive. Camping here at the Rabbit Hole Ranch is primitive and dispersed (no numbered sites) and there 30 acres available for you to use. Just follow the signs to the designated area and pick out a spot you like. Some spots have fire rings, some don’t. We are working on getting more, but in the meantime you’re welcome to bring your own. Or feel free to dig out a little hole. It works great and is easy to extinguish when you fill it back in and bury it. Please do not bury any trash. Typically, you will experience a rare kind of solitude and silence that feels…. other-worldly, with incredible sunrises and sunsets filling the enormous skies. On holidays, however, expect it to be busy. Our dogs are working dogs and they are more than happy to help keep you and your pets safe. Please help make their jobs easier by not leaving any food or trash in or around tents. Please keep your pets on leash or under control until you’re comfortably certain they get along with our dogs. And please report any issues promptly. This year we have a new Great Pyrenees to greet you, her name is Boudicca and she’s excited to meet everyone! As the Scenic Passenger Train is heard in the distance you'll look up towards Mount Blanca and imagine your next adventure living among the wildflowers of this High Desert Mountain Hipcamp. After recovering from a wildfire, the ancient sage brushes that had previously made the land harsh and unwelcoming are nearly gone, replaced with an abundance of grasses and wildflowers if blessed with rains. Open Land as far as you can go to the East you'll follow the Coyote canyon to high mountain lookouts. There are old logging maintenance roads you could take advantage of, so Hike, Bike or Motor around the local area. Fort Garland and Blanca have a community center (pool), septic dump and water fill and can provide groceries. The Great Sand dunes are about 45 minutes away. The Sand Dunes swimming pool, fed by a very hot artisan well is about an hour away. Mountain Home Lake is also within 1/2 an hour or so for fishing/water sports with a nice boat ramp. Escape from light pollution like never before, a clear night sky will make the whole trip worthwhile! Lots of wild life and you will most likely see some deer, hear the coyotes, and count the different colors of the humming birds. You can book a train ride out of Alamosa, and visit the local historic towns. The views will make it hard to leave the campsite, but there are tons of experiences and things to do in the area so make sure to do some research before you arrive.  The weather and wind can be unpredictable in the mountains, so be prepared.  There are two entrances onto the property, one at the bottom and one at the top. You can avoid some wind by camping near Lewis-Smith Rd at the lowest part of the land.  Also, the site can accommodate large trailers/RV's but just make sure to plan your entrance/exit carefully and don't go to far down the hills.  Just choose a wise spot to park if in a big rig.  There are some small tires around that you can use to sit on or if you dig a hole that you fill in before leaving you can make a temporary toilet.  Make sure to haul out all your trash and leave the site cleaner than it was when you arrived and respect the land.  If you do come across a mess from the previous camper and clean it up, just let us know and we will give you a refund for the night. Property is a short distance to fishing at Mountain Home Reservoir as well as the Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center. Located in Game Management Unit 83, which holds elk, mule deer, turkey, bear, and small game, this property is also adjoining over 500ac of County land. This is a PRIMITIVE property. Parking is at the roadside where you will walk onto the land downhill from the road. Fires are allowed in a stone fire ring when fire ban conditions allow it. There is no vehicular access into the property. There are multiple beautiful tent sites on the property, please pack in/pack out everything (including any waste not buried) so that it remains beautiful and pristine!

Incredible location and one of the most beautiful spots we’ve ever camped at!!! The drive got a little rough right before the site but honestly was to be expected being so remote and was easily managed. Site was easy to spot and we were able to quickly able to set up camp before sunset and take in that incredible view!!

Tremendously gorgeous views! Very quiet area with pretty clear directions to site. A fire pit is available, we made s'mores and had a great time. Once we went to bed we did hear (likely) coyotes howling in the distance and with small critters rustling near the tent, nothing dangerous or unusual for the type of area. Definitely would recommend especially for the quick access to the Great Sand Dunes Nat’l Park!!

Camp Catori was exactly what we didn’t know we were looking for—the perfect retreat from Denver. The view of Blanca Peak is absolutely breathtaking, and we could have happily spent the whole day just relaxing, reading, and napping on the outdoor sectional while soaking it in. The tiny home is thoughtfully equipped with everything you need for a cozy, comfortable off-grid stay. We will definitely be back ❤️

Loved camping here. Signs for the entrance and site number were tough to see late at night, but the site itself was great. Super open, very quiet, close proximity to the sand dunes, and not crowded. Definitely worth a stay if you like a bare bones site. I could see rain causing issues getting in or out for low clearance vehicles, but otherwise shouldn't be an issue

Loved RHR! We were the only ones there, which made it really nice and peaceful. The stars were amazing and the working doggos came to hang out with us frequently throughout the day and keep us safe from coyotes. Directions in the reservation and signs along the way were clear and we got there with no problem. We also drove an AWD Subaru Impreza and didn’t have any issues on the road.
