105 West Ranch
3 sites · Lodging101 acres · Goldfield, CO105 West Ranch has some pretty deep and unique history. Our area was originally surveyed in 1881. After that, miners came through in the late 1800s and dug prospector pits looking for gold. Many of these pits and even some old tin cans from miner's camps are still visible on the property today. In 1931, the area was re-surveyed with more accuracy. In 1936, the President of the United States, FDR, granted a land patent (homestead) of 632 acres to a man named Willard H Banks. Part of this 632 acre homestead granted by the President was what is now 105 West Ranch.Fast forward nearly 100 years. My wife, Rachel, and I bought this property in 2019, fulfilling a life-long dream of owning our own land. Rachel and I live for the outdoors, we work in the outdoor industry and spend every chance we get exploring our beautiful state with our two dogs. As a 4th generation Coloradan, it's been a lifelong dream to own a (relatively) small part of the state my family has called home since the late 1800s. Now that we own our own piece of Colorado heaven we want to share the unforgettable experience, memories and beauty of our property with others looking for an escape from the city.

There are easy trails on property along the lush stream (the original riverbed of the Middle Saint Vrain Stream), fishing or swimming in the pond (no lifeguard on duty), or challenging trails into Roosevelt National Forest from the property. (Ask Hiker Dot for guidance.) Several National Forest access points, where you can enjoy peaceful walks away from crowds, are a short drive.
Bliss Canyon is a spur off of breathtaking, picturesque South Saint Vrain Canyon. Stroll on over to the South or Middle for renowned fly fishing. For climbers, there are over 50 climbs in South Saint Vrain Canyon!
Rocky Mountain National Park, one of the five Crown Jewels of the National Park Service, is nearby. The closest trailhead in RMNP is 10 miles, the next trailhead at Wild Basin entrance to the park
is 13 miles, and the Beaver Meadows entrance (main entrance) is 36 miles. Rocky Mountain National Park has breathtaking drives, easy strolls with interpretive signs, and 360 miles of trails. (Advance reservation required for entry 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for main park, or 5:00 am to 6:00 pm for Bear Lake corridor.)
Indian Peaks Wilderness also has several nearby access points and trailheads. Ask for details.
Let the world melt away; there is no wifi or cell service. In the event of urgent need, come to our home up the hill and ring the bell.

Gondola Cabins Holy Cross is at 11.5k elevation (believed to be the highest altitude Hipcamp in the world). The property has been featured on Discovery Channel’s Reclaimed and the site of many product shoots. The managers of this property work in the ADU industry and have brought together some of the best Scandinavian and modern design with a mining town aesthetic.
The trip up can be challenging (only off-road equipped vehicles dare try the 759 road), but the views and shelter are well worth the trek. Snow free season tends to be July 1- October 30; outside this please be prepared for up to 11 miles of over-snow travel with no cars allowed.
