Camping near Brandon guide

Overview

Brandon is located near Colorado’s border with Kansas, with camping, cabin, and glamping options showcasing the quiet beauty of Colorado’s Eastern Plains. With no major towns nearby, the stars shine brighter over these vast grasslands. While the plains may look dry and dusty, you’ll find some surprising lakes and waterways south of Brandon. The Arkansas River winds its way from the rushing rapids where it begins in the Rocky Mountain peaks to a slow crawl across eastern Colorado on its journey to the Mississippi River. Its waters create the John Martin Reservoir, a haven for watersports, including fishing and boating. Wildlife flock to this oasis, as well as humans, creating a bird-watching paradise. Two public campgrounds are located in the John Martin Reservoir State Park, offering tent and RV campsites with electric hookups. Camping in Brandon puts you close to the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site and the Amache National Historic Site.
