Walk down our road and then left up to the top of the hill for a panoramic view of the entire area with the city San Luis Obispo at a distance.
Our two sites are flat on decomposed granite pads. Both have excellent views and easy access to our common areas: big sink and counter, and a cold-water outdoor "beach-type" shower. Firewood is available for purchase at camp for those wanting to use the fire pit, or you can bring your own.
The San Luis Obispo, Central Coast has so much to see and do! Hiking trails abound, our favorites are Bob Jones trail to walk or bike to Avila Beach, Johnson Ranch and Irish Hills for hiking hills, the Ridge trail for a view over Shell and Avila beaches, and the Harmony Trail to walk grassy cliffs by the ocean. Montano de Oro is only 15 minutes away with rocky ocean cliff trails that lead down to the coastline.
We are 5 minutes from the beginning of the Edna Valley winery trail with 30 wineries or more I’ve lost count. Tasting and relaxing in great atmospheres. Our favorites are Biddle Ranch, Talley, Mailene, Chamisal, Bailyanna... but there are so many more. We’re 10 minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo, 10–12 minutes to Avila or Pismo beaches. Morro Bay is 25 minutes. And we’re just 5 minutes off the 101 for easy access to traveling. The Central Coast has almost everything for fun, adventure and food. Surfing, biking, hiking, ocean kayaking, paddle boarding, golf, wine and beer culture, ranch lands, shopping and restaurants and we’re close to it all.

Come spend the night under the stars at our Grant Line camp site and event center. The Grant Line campsite is situated right next to an original 1840’s Spanish Land Grant boundary line, which is intersected by Forest Route 11N01. The grant has since been divided, but large pieces of land still remain, mostly inhabited by mountainous wildlife, ground squirrels, rabbits, coyotes and cattle. This area is also rich in Chumash history. Million-dollar views of the Caliente Mountain Range await you for evening sunsets and the Sierra Madre Mountain Range await you for your morning coffee enjoyment. Don't miss the brilliance of the famous Cottonwood Canyon Wildflowers with your front row seat. For your comfort, there is a 16x20 rustic-style shade structure (which has also been used for a dance floor!), water spigot, fire pit, small BBQ, and an outhouse. We have oak firewood available for purchase and a larger BBQ capable of cooking for 200+ guests available for rent, if needed. In 1881 my family purchased this property. It's home to abundant wildlife, our cattle herd and minutes away from the Los Padres National Forest. The area has a rich history, of gold and silver mining and bank robbers. Jesse and Frank James lived at the nearby La Panza Ranch while nursing gunshot wounds.
We are a short drive from Pozo Road, where you will find yourself nestled under an oak amongst the season's vegetation. Abundant wildlife in the camp area with pigs, coyotes and Tule elk residing in the mountains on the property. Seasonal birds, wildflowers and cattle grazing.
Hike, bike or just relax on the property and enjoy the star gazing that comes without the city lights. It's just a few minutes down the road to the Los Padres National Forrest but at least 45 minutes to the closest town.

Due to a recent suggestion by campers, we have added an outdoor sink with hot and cold water. Clearly needed for a quick cleanup after lunch.
The campsite is large enough for several vehicles to park. A leveled tent area is close by so no need carrying camping gear any distance. For your convenience, reliable cell service is available on the entire property.
Also wildlife galore: plenty of turkeys, deer, racoons and quail.
The nights are dark but we provide flashlights...then turn the flashlights off for a dazzling evening of stargazing.
Atascadero is a convenient basecamp for discovering the Central Coast: wineries/tasting rooms, olive oil tasting, abundant trails for walking/hiking; golfing as well as exploring the beaches: Morro Bay, Avila Beach, Montana de Oro, and northward to Cambria, Cayucos, San Simeon and Big Sur. The weather at Highlands Ranch is more like the inland Atascadero side hot in the summer months and cold in the winter months.
We have 4 terraced, no hook up, spots available all of which can accommodate 2 or 4 wheel drive camper vans, trucks or cars.
One of the sites can be used for fifth wheel, small motorhome or multiple camper type vehicles and of course tents can be set up on all sites. Sites range from small to extra large, that are quaintly studded with oak trees and native greenery for a peaceful camp off the road.

1948- On January 1, 1948 a wildcatter named George Hadley, who had been oil prospecting in the valley for 10 years, made the first oil strike in the Cuyama Valley. Richfield Oil Company soon moved in and extracted nearly 300 million barrels of oil in just a few short years. To accommodate an exploding workforce in the early 1950s, the company built the town of New Cuyama, its infrastructure, public buildings, the Cuyama airstrip (L88) and all the industrial structures that are now home to Blue Sky. Richfield Oil Company, later merging with Atlantic Oil Company forming the Atlantic Richfield Oil Company (ARCO), created high-paying jobs, a safe and prosperous community, and developed schools, churches, and recreational areas for the employee-residents.1973- With dwindling production in the area and new discoveries in Alaska, Atlantic-Richfield Oil Company put the town of New Cuyama and its associated infrastructure up for sale. Word of an entire town for sale made its way to entrepreneur, Russell O’Quinn of the Foundation for Airborne Relief (FAR) and Mildred Dotson, a wealthy widow from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The two worked together to acquire the townsite and adjacent land. O’Quinn, an aviator, inventor, and test pilot, aspired to use the New Cuyama airstrip and facilities as a base for humanitarian relief and a non-profit trade school. Though not fully realized, FAR’s primary vision included utilizing converted military aircraft to airlift food and medical supplies to developing countries and global disaster areas. Dotson had loftier goals. Her plans included an 18-hole fly-in golf course, expansion of the Buckhorn Restaurant and Motel, and a 40- to 50-acre lake for amphibious landing and water sports. 1986- Another visionary, Harry Kislevitz, inventor of the popular design tool Colorforms® and founder of Future City/Villages International, sought to develop the site as a “City of Friendship,” an all-electric village of 5,000 earthen homes. The dwellings were to be designed by Nader Khalili, an Iranian-born architect who specialized in earthen structures, worked with NASA on prototypes for lunar homes and received an award from the United Nations for his work towards the development of low cost, sustainable structures for human shelter in impoverished and disaster prone environments. One 628-sq-ft Khalili prototype remains on the property today ("the Cantina"). Khalili went on to form the California Institute for Earth Art and Architecture, Cal-Earth, in Hesperia, CA.1993- Recognizing the transformative potential of clean, solar power and the attractiveness of a rural destination, entrepreneur Mike Nolan worked to develop the Solar Skypark and Big Sky Guest Ranch with Santa Barbara Architect, Barry Berkus. The Sky Park included plans for sixty-five fly-in residences on one-acre lots powered completely from clean, solar energy. The Big Sky Guest Ranch was intended to function as a clubhouse for Skypark residents complete with an equestrian center, a small subsistence farm, pool and plenty of enriching recreational activities. 2012- At the end of 2011, the Zannon Family Foundation made a long-term investment in acquiring the New Cuyama Airport property with the vision of rehabilitating the site to be a low-cost resource for programs and organizations working to advance sustainable living practices and technologies. Plans began soon after towards developing a framework and organization to develop the space and coordinate with prospective programs and institutions. In 2014 Blue Sky Sustainable Living Center ("Blue Sky Center") received 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status, endeavoring to reclaim this property for the public good. Today, Blue Sky Center provides unduplicated services and technical assistance to support small businesses and entrepreneurs as well as the local food system, with core work focused on community research and advocacy led by Cuyamans. Our animals include; micro mini cows, minature silky fainting goats, mini horses, mini donkey, mini Kunekune pigs, mini roosters, horses and a pack of the friendliest dogs you'll ever meet. We have partnered with Forever Protected Equine, a non- profit to support the retired working horses on to our pastures wear they can live a natural equine life with friends. This is a critical time for horses well being and safety. Instead of an uncertain future or slaughter they come here to be gently cared for until their sunset day.

Love living where people vacation. We want to share this private spot away from crowded RV parks. Safe quiet Family neighborhood. This spot will just get better and better. Wake up early and you might find a fresh egg in the coop. We have 30 amp hookup and water. Cassette outdoor facilities. Self contained units highly recommended. Fire pit supplied with wood.

The sites on the ranch are flat and easy to drive to. Some friendly cats, dogs, horsed or cows may be wandering about.
There site have easy access to real toilets, sink and shower which is a great feature.
Christie is a wonderful, responsive host who came by both mornings providing some breakfast items like scones and eggs.
We will be baci.

This was hands down the best campsite and experience we have ever had on Hip Camp! What a hidden gem. Christy was an incredibly attentive and welcoming host. She surprised us each morning with a special delivery of freshly baked goods and eggs from her farm. What a treat! We unexpectedly arrived to 3 beautiful horses marking our camp spot and they were very friendly and curious. We were visited by deer as well as her beautiful cows grazing throughout and her lively ranch pups and cats. Lots of wildlife out here but you still feel safe and nestled in. The property is very well taken care of and loved. And our space was private enough as we angled our van towards the view. Lovely shade by the oak trees throughout the day and great onsite trails to enjoy. Christy even recommended some stops for wine tasting and dinner and we couldn't have been more happy with our experience. Fell in love a bit with Creston! Definitely will be returning. What a pleasure to stay at this property and for such a great price point. Thanks Christy & Wolf 6 Ranch!

I had a great time on this farm, the best part was the view of the night sky - I hadn't expected it to be so clear that I would be able to see the entire galaxy!
I had a great time meeting the horses too, as well as the doggies Seven and Juno. My own dog, Bertie had a good time roaming the land too.
The bathroom and shower were very spacious and convenient - running hot water, lots of space to hang/place clothes and toiletries, and well-lit at night.
Christy was very nice too, providing me with breakfast - including a home-baked item, fruits and coffee - on both mornings! She was also very responsive on text.
The place is ~30 mins from SLO, Morro Bay and Paso Robles so that was super convenient as well.
All in all, I'd highly recommend this place!

We had such a lovely stay! We had a few fun animal sightings and we were treated to a delicious breakfast loaf and fresh fruit. We even have some farm fresh eggs to take home with us!

We spent a beautiful two nights here. We experienced lovely sunrises over the Rolling Hills and enjoyed Starry Nights. My tour of the property and feeding the animals with Olwyn was the highlight of my trip. They all have a name, a story and are so well taken care of and loved. Thank you Olwyn and Doug for being so welcoming and accommodating we will definitely will be back!

We cannot say enough great things about this Hipcamp, the farm and the host. She was so generous with her time and pets, we feel so fortunate to have experienced such a magical experience. The site was very private, looking out at the neighbors vineyard, and the charming red farm houses where her sweet goats live. She has over 70 animals, so it is a child's dream. My girls left feeling so inspired for their own farm with the same animals. She helped educate us as well on their breeds and what a different perspective can be had when raising these animals as pets. Very loving and compassionate people. Thank you so much for your kindness. We would love to return! Book this site, you won't regret it! Water and electricity worked great as well. Close to SLO and we went to Avila beach as well.

Barb is a nice host and invited my grandsons to interact with her 2 dogs.
Suggest wiping off table and chairs and informing where to put trash.

Great spot close to San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay and Paso Robles. We have a 25 ft RV and we were able to turn around on the lot. A long electric cord and hose will help if you want to keep the RV level. We will definitely stay overnight again on our way to Northern CA.
