Sagewinds Farm is the first certified organic white sage farm in the world. At night the stars are magnificent and the milky way is visible...there are meteor showers several times a year. Permanent residents in the barn are the 2 mini horses to visit and four wonderful dogs. The nights are always cool and usually below 60% so be prepared to sleep well, even if the days are hot. There is almost always a breeze and sometimes a wind, so bring your kites. There are visiting animals that past thru and could include, coyotes, bobcats, Coatis, foxes, rabbits, quail, hawks and mountain lions. There are also some snake and lizards. We do have rattlesnakes. To make up for the rattlers we offer two flush toilets!
Camp on the healthy, beautiful and first Certified Organic White Sage Farm in the World. I like to tell people that this is sacred land and it is. Come see the magnificent boulder formations. About the property
Our property is in the high desert above Borrego Springs at 4,300'. We border Anza Borrego State property which means you’ll be adjacent to plenty of beautiful open spaces. There are many trails in the park which lead to the desert floor from our fence line. On a clear day you can see the Salton Sea from the bottom of the property.
We have great access to nearby points of interest including Borrego Springs which is 20 miles away, Anza Borrego State Park which is adjacent to Julian at 40 miles away, Palomar observatory which is 40 miles away and Cuyamaca Lake which is fantastic for fishing only 45 miles away. If you need to pop into town for any supplies or services you can access Borrego Springs (20 miles away), Julian (40 miles away), Ramona (45 miles away), and Temecula (50 miles away).
We have 3 horseshoe pits and 9 frisbee golf baskets for recreation onsite and we have incredible dark skies for excellent stargazing. You may see many different forms of wildlife including mountain lions, coyotes, foxes, bob cats, racoons, badgers, and rattle snakes. You will see many rabbits, squirrels and tons of birds of all kinds! We are really the perfect location for those who love the outdoors!
Owners live on site but we like to greet, meet, and then leave you to your stay! Please reach out if you have questions or concerns though.
About the listing
Our listing is for tents, vans and truck campers, trailers, or RV’s and we can accommodate rigs up to 25ft in length. A few of our 5 sites are pull through sites on dirt and may require some leveling. All sites are dry camping only as we do not have any hookups, though there are two bathrooms and water available in a centralized area on the property.
You can expect High desert and scrub brush environments. Any vehicle should be able to access our property but 4-wheel drive vehicle might make it a little easier to access areas on the outside perimeter of the property. While staying with us you can expect some noise from coyotes, raven….wind and a little highway traffic on s22.

Sagewinds Farm is the first certified organic white sage farm in the world. About the property
Our property is in the high desert above Borrego Springs at 4,300'. We border Anza Borrego State property which means you’ll be adjacent to plenty of beautiful open spaces. There are many trails in the park which lead to the desert floor from our fence line. On a clear day you can see the Salton Sea from the bottom of the property.
We have great access to nearby points of interest including Borrego Springs which is 20 miles away, Anza Borrego State Park which is adjacent to Julian at 40 miles away, Palomar observatory which is 40 miles away and Cuyamaca Lake which is fantastic for fishing only 45 miles away. If you need to pop into town for any supplies or services you can access Borrego Springs (20 miles away), Julian (40 miles away), Ramona (45 miles away), and Temecula (50 miles away).
We have 3 horseshoe pits and 9 frisbee golf baskets for recreation onsite and we have incredible dark skies for excellent stargazing. You may see many different forms of wildlife including mountain lions, coyotes, foxes, bob cats, racoons, badgers, and rattle snakes. You will see many rabbits, squirrels and tons of birds of all kinds! We are really the perfect location for those who love the outdoors!
Owners live on site but we like to greet, meet, and then leave you to your stay! Please reach out if you have questions or concerns though.
About the listing
Our listing is for tents, vans and truck campers, trailers, or RV’s and we can accommodate rigs up to 25ft in length. A few of our 5 sites are pull through sites on dirt and may require some leveling. All sites are dry camping only as we do not have any hookups, though there are two bathrooms and water available in a centralized area on the property.
You can expect High desert and scrub brush environments. Any vehicle should be able to access our property but 4-wheel drive vehicle might make it a little easier to access areas on the outside perimeter of the property. While staying with us you can expect some noise from coyotes, raven….wind and a little highway traffic on s22.

Went with my 13 year old son and dad. Super easy to find, Julian will send the GPS coordinates before your trip; if you enter those into google maps you won't have any problems, it takes you right there (it would be challenging otherwise, I think). Beautiful location on a farm pond, just a few minutes of the main highway coming west out of Westmoreland. One of the ranch hands (Andrew?) came by a couple times to ask if we needed anything, offered ice, potatoes, even offered to move the portapotty so it was more convenient (we did not take him up on that, but it was super nice to offer) etc; super friendly guy. Kid had an amazing time exploring the pond, fishing and swimming. I've heard that it can get windy, but we did not experience that. I think it's definitely worth checking the forecast specifically for wind before you go, I can see that it could go from pleasant to miserable pretty quickly if the wind kicked up. Kid is already bugging me to go back, so.....

This is one of the best sites I’ve ever stayed at on Hipcamp. The property is completely private, and Steve did an incredible job creating something special with his own two hands. There are little special details I never would have imagined. Exploring the property felt so unique and a one-of-a-kind experience for sure. Will be coming back!

Definitely higher clearance car needed but the Meadow campsite was amazing. Carlotta was super nice and helpful. No service and the outhouse is an outhouse haha. The swinging hammock things were a big hit, and would definitely stay again at that campsite, and recommend.

Staying at Ellen’s was magical! Her land was so beautiful, she showed us around herself. There were multiple hikes to go on and areas to explore. Stargazing was amazing at night! The mini horses and her friendly dogs were adorable! Overall wonderful experience! Stay at Ellen’s!

My family of 4 had a great time enjoying Ellen's property. She told us all about the land and how she's cultivated it. She showed us around including the boundary and introduced us to her horses. We hiked/scrambled up the mountain and we're accompanied by one of her sweet dogs who impressed us the whole way up and down and hung around us most of the day. The freeway noise others have commented on was really minimal white noise occasionally, but we heard a pack of coyotes and a mountain lion/bobcat in the evening. The stargazing was great, and we couldn't get enough of the rock scrambling there was to do. There's a marked trail up the mountain that helped us find our way down. We would love to come back and visit again.

Beautiful views. Off the beaten path but not in the middle of nowhere or hard to get to. I was solo, so I slept in my car at site 4 but there was plenty of room for a multiple tents

We really really loved our stay at the camp for the first time to celebrate Valentines day. It was really private, quiet, with beautiful surroundings (nature), interesting trails.for adventure. Host's are very kind, feels like family with a sweet dog that will lead you to your campsite, lol. Best place for a weekend getaway away from city life. We will definitely return.

What a magical little gem of a place to find in the middle of the desert. Had a beautiful night listening to the thousands of birds. Watching the sunset and sunrise was incredible. Smelling the fruit trees blew my mind. My dog and I did get to see the peacock watching over us through the night and were delighted that six great egrets nested in the tree right above where we were sleeping. My Merlin Bird app went absolutely nuts in this place!!
A porta-potty was delivered just as I was setting up and it was so clean, and very much appreciated.
If I had known how special this place was I probably would have carved out a little more time to stay longer.
