The price of camping includes the Ranch experiences of feeding the animals and collecting eggs. Our property is great for children! We have a trampoline, a tree house, a large livestock water trough that we use as a kiddie pool in summer, a great swing set, and room to play.
We live on a quiet 10 acre property with trees that provide some shade, and all of our sites are near the horse pastures. You might hear horses nickering and chickens clucking. There is lots of room to walk or run around. A Treehouse is available for kids to play in, a trampoline to jump on, plus we have a 17 foot high swing for kids and adults alike! You can walk the property to observe the horses, or sign up for a special horse, tractor, or welding experience.
Come camp in a very quiet and safe horse and farming area. We are near the end of a dead-end road. Our camping sites are somewhat private, some with more shade and others with more mid-day sun.
We specialize in "Horse Experiences" tailored to your level of comfort and needs. None of the horse experiences listed on our site require any prior experience with horses. We will make sure you are safe and comfortable while working with the horses.
*NOTE: Experiences are not available on Sundays (our sabbath day). We can fit them in on Saturday afternoon/evening for Saturday-night campers, or Monday morning for Sunday-night campers.
We have a private bathroom with flush toilet and sink.
Summertime brings hot days and (usually) cool nights to our area. It is not uncommon to experience 100 degree days in June, July and August. Most evenings cool down, thanks to the Delta Breeze, to around 60-70 degrees overnight. Wintertime brings cooler daytime temps (50-60 degrees) and colder night temps (30-40 degrees).
We are located about 10 minutes from the Galt area, which has a large variety of Fast-food, as well as several nicer restaurants. There is also a Wal-Mart (with groceries) and a nice Supermarket. We are about 6 miles from 2 country stores in Herald and Wilton (with gas station).
Sites accommodate up to 6 people, and you can add up to 2 more for an additional fee. If you need more than 8 people, then consider booking 2 or more sites.
With horses and the activities we do with them, dogs are not allowed.

I loved camping at this ranch! The land was beautiful and peaceful. The bathroom was clean and the shower was open air which was another very nice addition. If you need firewood there is a great place to buy local firewood a few blocks up the road on Cross Road before the turn off to the ranch. They take Zelle.
Pet owners beware/everyone in general, there are a lot of ticks hiding in the grass. We found a few on our dog so just make sure to do a thorough check on yourself and your pets.

Our stay at this outdoor campsite was absolutely unforgettable. From the very beginning, Matt stood out as an exceptional host—his communication was prompt, clear, and incredibly helpful. He made sure we had all the information we needed and set the perfect expectations for our visit.
We originally planned to stay just one night since my partner had a business meeting nearby, and I was simply tagging along. But everything changed the moment we woke up the next morning. The views were breathtaking—peaceful, expansive, and truly rejuvenating. We instantly knew one night wasn’t enough and decided to extend our stay.
To our delight, the weather added even more magic to the experience. We were able to enjoy both beautiful sunshine and rain, each bringing its own charm to the landscape. It made the entire stay feel even more special and memorable.

In this spring season upon entering Walden Ranch Camp, I was greeted with blooming flowers and numerous trees offering shady rest from the sun. I experienced a sense of peace and serenity in Walden Ranch Camp. One becomes relaxed with the splendor of foliage.
Mr. Alan Hanson, the camp owner, was very welcoming and friendly to me. He offered pertinent information about the camp for me. He wants to make sure that each camper can be at ease while staying at the camp. I appreciated his willingness to visit with me and provide information about the camp.
Peace is present at the camp, however, our animal friends enjoy offering calls, chirps and voices in this setting at Walden Ranch. So, sit back and enjoy the cacophony of sounds coming from our animal friends, both wild and domesticated geese, peacocks, dogs, cattle, and roosters and hens. Our animal friends also have a very large role to contribute in the natural order.
Walden Ranch Camp is a place where one can return to a simpler time. There is a certain earthiness at Walden Ranch. In many ways, Walden Ranch offers each camper a grounding in the fabric of the earth. These camping experiences at Walden Ranch Camp help protect us from the distortions in our culture.
I recommend Walden Ranch Camp as a place to regain a vibrant connection with nature.

The location was easy to find on Google maps. I chose this location because of its proximity to San Jose (I wanted to take my little granddaughters camping without having a huge drive and it was 20 minutes from home!) I made the reservation 1 week prior; it was fairly easy.
As we drove in, the first thing we saw was the big wreath as a landmark. I reserved the “woodchips campsite” because it looked big enough to fit my large tent and vehicle. We were very glad, because we also had shade under the trees! The location is super-peaceful and a good view, too. We were confused at first because we originally thought our campsite was the picnic table behind the wreath (there was no room for our tent) but then we noticed the white sign identifying our campsite – thank you for that!
The picnic table was large and long but the wood is old and splintery, so I recommend bringing a table cloth and perhaps another cloth to cover the bench part where you sit down.
In the evening, we walked the short distance down to the pond and noticed what might have been another campsite on the side of the dirt road, photo attached.
This is a “no services” location so you must pack out whatever you bring. No toilets, running water, garbage cans / fires allowed but the picnic table was definitely appreciated as we have been to some other Hipcamp locations that did not have that . This place is good if you need a place to sleep. Very Peaceful.

Barry’s land was wonderful. It was clean, we loved going on the hay ride to experience the cows, bull Napoleon and the many goats they have. Feeding them and able to spend time with the animals was great. My family and I had a wonderful time and make precious memories. We have already talked about returning.

I really don’t want to write this review because it is just going to make Cole Ranch even more popular! But how could I not. Barry and Chrissy work so hard- this place is clearly a labor of love! It is so relaxing - being right on the river is about as good as it gets! And everything you need is right there for the taking. Water toys? ✔️ Firewood? ✔️ ice? ✔️ Bathrooms are so clean and cheerful. Not perfect but it’s camping folks!

Awesome place, super convenient if you need a place to crash as you make your on your way along I-5. Lots a space between sites, and the area was very quiet aside from a pack of coyotes in the distance. The restroom facility is great, and we loved being able to look up at the stars while we showered.

I have camped with my pop up camper at the Ranch at the Cross Roads a handful of times. It is very convienant and a great place to stay. The bathroom and shower are excellent. Always clean and comfortable I will continue to stay on this property in the future.

Absolutely exceeded all expectations! Our family lover every part of Travis’s space. The BBBQ, Refrigerator, outlets, and bathrooms made it so nice. It’s on a ranch so all the animals and wildlife were so amazing as well. Frogs and wild turkeys filled the air with beautiful sounds. Fishing was great! Everyone caught fish.

Great spot! Sunset and sunrise over the hills was stunning. The bathroom felt luxurious for camping and I liked the shower.
The communal area could use some work. The cornhole boards were a bit warped and most of the bags were unusable. The sink outside didn't work as well.
Overall the location was great and nearby a place to buy wood/get food. Did the job.

Our family (two adults, two elementary school kids, one dog) loved camping here. The friendly farm dogs welcomed us as soon as we arrived. While we were setting up, Adrian the very large pig stopped by. Easy set up for grilling (BYO charcoal) and campfire. Alan was a wonderful host and took us on a hayride to feed the cows and alpacas. Between the chickens, peacocks, dogs, pig, horse, donkeys, alpacas, cows, and lake creatures, my kids had a wonderful time.
We hope to come back, next time with friends.

We had such a great time at Walden Ranch. It was simple, peaceful, and exactly what we needed.
Right when we arrived, we were greeted by Alan’s dogs, three big ones and two small ones, roaming around and welcoming us in. It immediately made the place feel warm and relaxed.
Being able to use the canoe whenever we wanted was one of our favorite parts. Just being out on the water, quiet and surrounded by nature, felt really calming. The bonfire at night was another highlight. Sitting there listening to the sounds around us made it easy to slow down and just enjoy the moment. Alan had wood ready for us, and Brian brought more later, which we really appreciated.
One of the most memorable parts was going on a hayride with Alan and his family to feed the heifers, cows, and bull. It was such a genuine, hands-on experience and something we do not get to do often.
There were also so many animals around. A peacock, a potbelly pig which was such a fun surprise, and all kinds of birds including geese, ducks, chickens, and songbirds. It really added to the whole experience of being there.
Alan is a really nice, genuine person, and we loved talking with him about his backpacking trips. You can tell he really cares about the place and the experience he creates for guests.
Overall, it was an unforgettable experience.
Sitting at home now, it is one of those trips that still makes us smile. We are really grateful for the time we spent there and would definitely come back and recomment

My Wife and I had peaceful time at Cole Ranch. As others have mentioned Berry is a kind and friendly Host. His property is well maintained and is beautiful camping spot right along the river.
