Our plush & cozy bell tent was designed with the ultimate comfort in mind! It feature all the amenities you can expect at a hotel - therapeutic mattress, buddy heater, quality linens and more. The provided kitchen comes fully outfitted with everything you need including; hot chocolate, tea, spices and multiple cooking tops. All you need to bring is your cooler and food! Open fires are allowed (weather permitting) and bundles of wood are sold at $8.
There are a network of trails to explore nearby, as well as Lake Cuyamaca and the historic town of Julian. The Airstream is new to the ranch and is a work in progress, but you'll love the charm of hanging out in a very cool vintage trailer. We'll soon be adding some layers of paint, shine, and lots of love, so make sure to follow our progress in fixing the ole girl up!
Our location is also unique because we are fully fenced in and have a separate turn out space for your horses (check add-ons for camping with your horse). We also have a small 1954 Camper ("Lucy") that can act as a second bedroom for more sleeping space (check for add-on).
**WHEELCHAIR ACCESS: We can provide a ramp for the Airstream for accessibility, though please be aware the camper is small, likely not wide enough for a standard wheelchair, and the bathroom is also small and doesn't meet ADA standards. Please ask if you have questions?!

The black kitten stayed at our camp all night and cuddled on our laps by the fire. It was such a lovely experience. The Time Traveler’s Cabin was absolutely stunning! The decor is incredible, but what I loved most was the kitchen it was so well-stocked that I felt like I was in my own home. We spent so much time on the outdoor patio and forge, soaking up the sun, eating lunch, and enjoying the fire. We had such a great stay at Camp Chester with our three little ones! The scenery was beautiful and peaceful, and there was plenty for us to do without ever feeling crowded. We loved exploring the hiking trail nearby. It was manageable with kids and made the whole trip feel like a little adventure! My kids literally played from sun up to sun down!
One of our favorite parts was the outdoor setup. Having access to coffee in the morning and a fun outdoor grill kitchen made everything so easy and enjoyable. It felt like camping but with the perfect thoughtful touches. Not to mention the beautiful outdoor bath house! The best!
It was the kind of place that made camping with young kids actually relaxing. We’d definitely come back! We are eager to explore their other sites!

I loved Greg’s property. I saw such a gorgeous sunset and sunrise on spot 4. 2 places for building a fire, several flat spots for tents, and incredible views. Outhouse was well equipped and quirky. Greg gave me my space but was available for all of my needs. I was able to navigate slick and muddy road after atmospheric river in my 2024 crosstrek wilderness edition. It was fun!

The airstream is really well equipped, the shiwer is nice and warm and the place is well maintained. The host is very quick to respond and we had a great experience. We roasted marshmallows with our two kids and had a good tine around the fire. The only thing that I regret is not being able to get close to the donkey, poney and horse. The sheep enclosure was also too far to pet the animals. We could unfortunately not afford the $60 to help feed animals or get close to them.

Such a great and cozy stay at Camp Chester! My family and I loved walking the trails, making pizza and having a little outing to nearby wineries. This is our second time staying on their property (different site) and couldn’t recommend it more.

Where to go
The Southern California Desert
Mount Laguna puts you in easy reach of the Southern California Desert, and Anza Borrego Desert State Park is less than an hour away by car. Drive just a little further and you'll hit the Salton Sea, a popular birdwatching spot.
The Southern California Coast
If you want to trade in hiking trails for sandy shores, you need only head down to the Southern California coast, a short drive from Mount Laguna. Here you'll find a mix of big cities and small coastal communities plus miles and miles of sandy beaches, some of which have their own campgrounds.
The Southern California Mountains
There's plenty more to explore in Southern California's Peninsular Range, from the Cleveland National Forest to the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. A little further away, the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument offers miles of hiking trails and great views over the Coachella Valley.
When to go
While Mount Laguna is at its most popular with campers in the hot summer months, it’s not a bad spot for shoulder-season camping, and many of the campgrounds in the surrounding Cleveland National Forest are open year-round. Come in April or October for cool, but sunny, weather sans crowds. Winter snow days in the region draw throngs of San Diegans, who come to the surrounding forest for sledding.
