It was very quiet, empty and pretty during sunset time. It feels abandoned, but we were happy to have a lot of privacy and peace. We would be happy to come back.

RV Site Mountain Vineyard Retreat
This site was not as advertised and I would not recommend it. I messaged Todd the day before arrival to confirm water/sewer/electrical was there. His response was yes, but I would have to cut back the overgrowth to access everything (That was an understatement). I asked if he could do that for us. His response was that he was an hour and a half away in San Diego. I responded, that was where we were too. I asked if he could make some tools available for us to use to clear out the site when we got there. I received no response. The property looks like it has been abandoned, with trash and discarded parts of all sorts lying about. There is also a sea of fox tails (google this - people with pets beware). I had to use a machete I keep in the truck to cut out a spot for the RV to fit into. We would have left immediately had it not been such a commitment getting out there or had we known of a Plan B. You can do nothing but be in your RV if on the property - it is one unkept piece of land. The neighboring winery offers a free campground with a view. Stay there. I think the owner had grand plans some years ago, but has since turned their focus to something else - and so should you. This is not a place worth $70/night and I will be seeking a full refund.

This place is absolutely incredible. The views were stunning and it was fantastic letting the dogs off leash to romp around. Todd was nice enough to share hiking, winery and food recommendations in the area that led us to a breathtaking hike to Eagle Rock via the PCT and a delicious winery (Sierra Roble) right next door. Also Garage 79 is a great spot to grab a beer and some tacos. This trip was the exact reset we needed. Rate to find a place with full hookups and complete privacy. We will 100% be returning.

Agree with all posts about the solitude and location. Easy to access and all the hookups you need for RV setup. But this time of year was probably not ideal for our situation. This was our first time using Hipcamp and we were excited to find a site that allowed off leash roaming for our dogs. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize how pervasive the foxtails are in this rustic area. We spent 10 minutes roaming the vineyards and an hour picking out all the burrs and foxtails from our dogs coats. The ants and flies made spending anytime outside the camper pretty miserable. Even when on leash the dogs were covered in thorns and foxtails just walking around the camper and vineyard. We left before sunset so didn’t get to experience the stars but I imagine it can be beautiful out there - just sharing our experience for other campers with dogs. We did find another spot nearby that was more crowded but had grass … lesson learned for us! Realize that host can’t control nature so just sharing this so others consider time of year before booking.

We camped next to the Quonset Hut. Nice level spot. Very quiet and private. Our dog loved the off leash time. 30 amp service was nice as was water access although not needed since our tank was full. Todd was very responsive to all questions.

RV Site Mountain Vineyard Retreat
We spent 3 nights at this vineyard and enjoyed the complete privacy with beautiful mountain/vineyard views. Todd was quick to respond to a couple of questions and his directions were easy to follow for finding the spacious RV spot with full hook-ups making the rural location very pleasant. ATT and Verizon cell service were both very good on the property. Our 2 dogs loved the off-leash paths and were really intrigued by vineyard "guard coyote"! We also enjoyed offsite hiking with our pups -- Pacific Crest Trail access just 15 mins away and we highly recommend William Heise County Park near Julian. We agree with other reviewer that water pressure was weak so we used RV water pump for showers to work-around. It would be nice to get some of the older junk removed around the RV site but this is common with owners having much to do maintaining large acreage so just appreciate that Todd shares his special place on Hipcamp.

When I arrived on the property, I contacted the host because I wasn't sure what direction I needed to go. It took over an hour before the host reached back out to me. While waiting for the host, I proceeded to drive on the property. I parked my van up one of the vineyard rows. When I got out of my vehicle, I noticed the grounds were extremely dry and overgrown with weeds. I let my dog out to roam, however, the ground was too rough and it was pretty hot. I put my dog back in the van. While I was trying to figure out how to set up, a bee flew in my van, unbeknownst to me. My dog stepped on the bee, which I didn't know. He then vegan to vomit profusely. I was on the property for less than 15 minutes before I left to take my dog to an emergency vet. I still didn't know what happened to my dog until I found the dead bee in my van the next day. I spent the night in a hotel and left the next morning. Unfortunately, I would not go back. This trip was memorable, but, in all the wrong ways.

We had one small car, three people, two dogs and two tents and not a single other person in sight, which was just what we wanted! The views are spectacular and very peaceful all around. There is a winery within walking distance.

Our trip to Rancho Esquandolas was amazing. What an incredible place. The scenery was spectacular right in the heart of the San Diego County wine region. And, we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. It rained part of the time but it just added so much more to the scenery around us as the clouds flowed over the mountains. Our host Todd couldn’t have been any nicer and made sure we had what we needed. We cannot wait to go back time and time again.

This was exactly what we needed. A quiet remote, single campsite surrounded by nature. The view is stunning with great opportunities for photography or casual hiking among the vineyard. Todd is a great host, he made us feel welcome from the beginning. For our Thor Compass 23te it was the perfect size to settle in. I'm a writer so the environment was perfect for thinking, reading and writing. The place feels nostalgic and real. The way a working vineyard should feel. The rustic environment is perfect for people who love to get away from the maddening crowds.

This is a nice spot because the views are pretty and it’s very private. I couldn’t tell from the description but this is a single campsite; no one else around. Being able to have our dogs off leash was a special treat for them. The Punker’s Cafe down the hill is a fun spot for coffee and breakfast and it’s a nice walk from the campsite.

The water pressure was pretty low but it didn’t really bother us during the stay. There were a lots of empty buckets next to the barn that we did not expect to see. For a private fully hookup site, the price is fair I guess. The best part was there were a lot of trails to explore on the property.

We loved the RV site in this quiet vineyard. It’s a nice flat site made with a retaining wall and has full RV hookups. We had the site to ourselves, a private retreat. One potential downside is, to get there you will travel on an unimproved road. All wheel drive is important. We arrived after a heavy rain and struggled a bit to make the turns in the mud.

Great view, quiet, peaceful. Nice getaway from the desert! Electric was not working, probably due to a tripped breaker but the breakers were located in the locked building. Host wasn’t on site to assist but I also booked same day/last min and host was traveling.. but I made it work with only running lights of battery power, it was worth the location. Thanks

This was a beautiful little getaway in the most gorgeous vineyard setting! It's quiet and private with our host Todd's house a little ways' walk up the hill. After getting our pie slices in Julian, we got here in about 40 minutes and got to catch a sunset over the mountains. We stargazed (this is a good spot for that), walking along the grape vines, saw some tiny frog friends, walked the meditation circle, and made our breakfasts at the table-for-four by the Quonset hut.
This is such a memorable stay. There might be some ants (this was fine, especially in closed-toed shoes) but we didn't see a single mosquito. It's rustic and scenic and definitely a neat spot. For hikers, the Eagle Rock hike, which is a PCT section, is just 15 minutes away. Definitely recommend!

We loved camping out in the vineyard on Todd’s land! The space was secluded and had full RV hookups and our dogs could run around off leash which was so nice! Todd was a great host and met us upon arrival and made sure we had everything we needed. Thanks for a great stay!
